Mrs. Helen Flowers
SALISBURY -- Helen Catherine Flowers, 79, of Salisbury, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove.
Entombment will follow at West Lawn Mausoleum.
The Rev. Clifton Edwards and Rev. Irvin Burris will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Born Dec. 29, 1922, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Scott and Belton Scott.
She was educated in Stanly County Schools, worked in retail clothing sales and was affiliated with Landis Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon L. Flowers; three sons, Richard Flowers of Salisbury, Mike Flowers and his wife Sandy of Salisbury, and Tim Flowers and his wife Donna of Salisbury; three daughters, Sharon and her husband Jim Saxon of Salisbury, Patricia Burleson of Albemarle, and Earlene Bost of Maryland; and several half-brothers and sisters; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gail Kawahara
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Gail Linebarrier Kawahara, 68, of 5904 McFarland Street, Indianapolis, Ind., died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Community Hospital South in Greenwood, Ind.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. The Rev. Don Hurlburt will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of her brother, George, at 2019 Vincent Drive, Asheboro, N.C.
Mrs. Kawahara was a native of Kannapolis, N.C. and graduated from Asheboro High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked for many years at the Drake Hotel in Chicago, was active in the Democratic Party, and was a speech writer for President John F. Kennedy. She was also a real estate agent with Carpenter Realtors of Greenwood, Ind. and a member of Greenwood Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis, Ind.
Survivors include her husband, Michio Kawahara of Indianapolis; her mother, Lillie Linebarrier Blair of Asheboro, N.C.; and three brothers, Bill Linebarrier and George Linebarrier, both of Asheboro, N.C., and Paul Linebarrier of Liberty, N.C.

Mrs. Sally Ranson
HUNTERSVILLE -- Sally Bost Ranson, 87, of 14309 Ranson Road, Huntersville, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at the Brian Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. Burial will follow at Huntersville ARP Church. The Rev. Linda Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. At other times, they will be at the home on Ranson Road.
Born Aug. 30, 1914, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Ann Bost and Albert B. Bost. She was a homemaker and a member of Huntersville ARP Church. She was the granddaughter of a confederate soldier and known for her love of plants, quilts, and genealogy.
Mrs. Ranson was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Ranson.
Survivors include her son, Joe B. Ranson and his wife Peggy of Huntersville; her half-brother, Ralph Morgan of Midland; her half-sister, Ruth M. Tucker of Midland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Malcolm Solomon
RALEIGH-- Malcolm Theodore Solomon, of Montgomery County, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Whitley's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Born February 21, 1906, he was the son of Milas R. Solomon and Isabelle Currie Solomon. He was a gentle, kind, loving soul who was a dedicated Christian with a servant's heart, and was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was in the dry cleaning business most of his adult life, both as an operator and owner. He attended the National Dry Cleaning Institute in Maryland, where he learned the skills necessary to become an accomplished dry-cleaner. During World War II, he served in Wilmington, helping to construct naval ships.
He was very active at the First Baptist Church of Kannapolis, where he was a deacon and a member of the choir. He was a long time member of the YMCA where he spent many memorable nights competing in their bowling league. He was an avid golfer and loved gardening and his family.
Mr. Solomon was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Mae Morton Solomon; his second wife, Annie Lucille Riner Solomon; and a son, Edward Riner Solomon. He was the last surviving sibling of five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Kay Solomon Osborne and her husband, Dr. Murphy M. Osborne Jr.; a son, Theodore Wayne Solomon; four grandchildren, Cynthia Osborne Jones, Lisa Kay Osborne McGeever, Kelly Melissa Solomon, and Ryan Matthew Solomon; and four great-grandchildren, E Street Jones IV, Blake Osborne Painter, Liam Andrew McGeever, and Daniel Patrick McGeever.

Mr. Robert Spears
STEDMAN, NC -- Robert Horace Spears, 70, of 592 Magnolia Church Road, Stedman, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery in Stedman, N.C. The Rev. Adam Hatley will officiate.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Spears was a retired MSG with the U.S. Army, 5th special forces after 20 years of service. He served in the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #730.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta P. Spears of the home; three sons, Robert Howard Spears of Seattle, Wash., Mark Spears of Sanford, N.C., and James Howard Spears of Hope Mills, N.C.; two sisters, Peggy Karr of Concord, and Virginia Wood of Alexandria, Va.; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Margaret Bartley
CONCORD -- Margaret Moose Bartley, 82, of 515 lake Concord Rd. NE, Concord, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at Avante Nursing Center, after seven years of declining health.
A graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Dr. John Boyd Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service at the home of Mary Alice Hawkins.
Born December 26, 1919 in Cabarrus County the daughter of the late Joseph Luther Moose and Minnie Swing Moose. She was a former resident of New York City, Baltimore and 50 years in Los Angeles Calif., also active in the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Alice Hawkins of Concord, a number of aunts and cousins.

Mrs. Deborah Bolton
CONCORD -- Deborah Lynn Proctor Bolton, 49, of 696 Health Department Dr., Concord, died Monday, May 6, 2002.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Kannapolis. The Rev. Trooper Ferguson and Rev. Kenneth Bolton will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at 846 Richard Ave., Kannapolis.
Born Sept. 24, 1952, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Bolton was the daughter of Gatha Shoe Mullis and James Paul Proctor. She attended East Bethel Baptist Church in Concord.
Survivors include her husband, John William Bolton of Concord; one son, Johnny Bruce Honeycutt of Franklinton; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Honeycutt of Kannapolis, and Wendy Honeycutt Chapman of Concord; two brothers, Lloyd Proctor of Charlotte and Perry Proctor of China Grove; three sisters, Nancy Teague of Kannapolis, Terry Starnes of Concord, and Ann Hooks of Concord, and six grandchildren.
Mr. Skip Byrd
CONCORD -- Eborn Brantley "Skip" Byrd, 69, of 3985 Laramie Road, Concord, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital-Harris Hospice Unit in Charlotte. He had battled a lenghtny illness with heart and lung disease.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Enochville. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte. The Rev. Mike Lawing and Rev. Tom Huneycutt will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home on Laramie Road.
Born March 25, 1933, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Eborn Brantley Byrd and Mae Celeste Hetser Byrd. Mr. Byrd retired in 1993 from sales with the record industry working with R.C.A., Columbia Records, and others. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Enochville where he had served as a deacon. He enjoyed golf, fishing and had a tremendous love for his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ and also for his family.
The family wishes to thank the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital, Drs. Bailey & McMillian at Mid Carolina Cardiology, and the staff at Presbyterian Heart Failure Program. Also, special thanks to Linda Keeter and Angie Kee and their families. Also, Bud Mullis and family.
Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a son, Tripp Byrd, who died in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Mullis Byrd of the home; a son, Don Byrd and his wife Andrea of Concord; two daughters, Karen B. Abercrombie and her husband Reggie and Pam B. Harris and her husband Ronnie, all of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Charly Lyda, Ben Lyda, Scarlett Lyda, James Abercrombie, Rindy Byrd, and Katie Abercrombie; he is also survived by three sisters.
