Mrs. Edith Goodman
CONCORD -- Edith Marshall Goodman, 81, of 5817 Plyler Mill Road, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cold Water Lutheran Church in Concord. The Revs. Jerry and Marion Rhyne, and the Rev. John Kahl will officiate. Burial will be at Cold Water Lutheran Cemetery in Concord.
The family will receive friends Sunday at Cold Water Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall after the service.
Born May 28, 1920, in Scott County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Nancy Alice Wright Marshall. She was a homemaker and member of Cold Water Lutheran Church in Concord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Jacob Goodman; a son, Jerry Goodman; and a number of brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Hart of Monroe; a sister, Maxie Meade of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lelani Cress and Donna Yates, both of Concord, John R. Tarleton Jr. of Monroe and Laura Hart of Wilmington; five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Cold Water Lutheran Church, 1725 Gold Hill Road, Concord, NC 28024.

Mrs. Ethel Pethel
KANNAPOLIS -- Ethel Goss Pethel, 87, formerly 1212 West A St., died Friday, May 24, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center after six years of declining health and one week of serious illness.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Richard Pethel and the Rev. Chris Pethel will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a granddaughter, Penny Cannon, at 4455 Miller Road, Lot 22 in Salisbury.
Born May 18, 1915, in Royston, Ga., she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Lilly Mae Eaton Goss. She was employed with Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, weave room 1 for 50 years until her retirement. She was a charter member of West A Tabernacle Baptist Church in Kannapolis, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
She had been a resident of Kannapolis, for most of her life and she loved the Lord and her family.
She was preceded in death in 1988 by her husband, Harry Wertz Pethel; then by her son, Jerry Pethel; and by three brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Harry Pethel Sr. of Dundalk Md., and Frank Pethel of Kannapolis; a daughter, Pat Stiller of Salisbury; a sister, Sue Lyerly of Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Martha Triece
KANNAPOLIS -- Martha Helen Goodman Triece, 80, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church in Concord. The Rev. Peter Hale will officiate. Burial will be at Center Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. At other times, they will be at the home of a daughter at 635 Pitt School Road in Concord.
Born Oct. 12, 1921, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Walter and Elizabeth Wood Goodman. She was in the Cabarrus County Home Extension Club, a member of the Recycled Teenagers Club of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Church Circle and the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church of Concord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Taft Triece; and by a daughter, Jean Brumley.
Survivors include a son, Charles William Triece of Concord; a daughter, Donna T. Bonds of Concord; a sister, Elizabeth G. Milstead of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Esther Goodman of Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, 6841 Poplar Tent Road, Concord, NC 28027, or to Center Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 1601 South Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Mr. Harold Whittington
STATESVILLE -- Henry Harold Whittington, 70, of 114 Camp Oak Road, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim Fluke will officiate. Burial will be at Kannapolis City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Concord, he was the son of the late Walter Benton and Carrie Mae Honeycutt. He was a member of Bethesda Road Lighthouse Ministries and a retired insurance executive for Charlotte Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., where he was an insurance sales manger. He attended Lexington City Schools.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Whittington and Walter B. Whittington, Jr.; and by two sisters, Cleo Whittington and Margaret Whittington Ball.
Survivors include his wife, Dorcus Smith Whittington of the home; three daughters, Sylvia Whittington McGinnis of Statesville, Angela Burgess of Charlotte and Sheila Tomlin of Newton; two brothers, Ernest Whittington and Paul Whittington, both of Lexington; a sister, Ruth Whittington Johnson of Concord; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. William Brice Duncan
Mr. William Brice Duncan, 84, of 526 Eastway Drive, Kannapolis, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Willie Rash will be officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Duncan was born January 13, 1917 Chesterfield County, SC. He was the son of the late Walter Timmons Duncan and Numa Bell Smith Duncan. He was retired from Cannon Mills. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Sellers Duncan, and a son, Michael Eugene Duncan.
Mr. Duncan is survived by one daughter, Betty Duncan Woodie of Salisbury; two sons, Danny Lee Duncan of Kannapolis, and William Brice Duncan, Jr. of Salisbury; eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Della Mae Earley Litaker
Mrs. Della Mae Earley Litaker, 81, of 513 West 8th Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, after six months of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gene Edwards will be officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of a brother, George Earley, 570 Earley Street, Kannapolis, at other times.
Mrs. Litaker was born January 15, 1920 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Lee Earley and Emma Belle Dayvault Earley. She was retired from Cannon Mills. She attended Lane Street Baptist Church in Kannapolis. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Litaker.
Mrs. Litaker is survived by a step-son, Glenn Litaker of Charlotte; two sisters, Voida Hilton and Mary Price, both of Kannapolis; four brothers, Gene Earley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Joe Earley of Landis, Charles Earley of Salisbury, and George Earley of Kannapolis; two step grandchildren.

Mrs. Juanita Gaston Miller
Mrs. Juanita Gaston Miller, 71, of 322 East 20th Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, August 4, 2001 at her home after ten months of declining health and four weeks of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Rick Felts and Rev. Jasen Kirkman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Miller was born April 1, 1930 in Gaston County, NC. She was a daughter of the late John Lee Gaston and Mary Josephine Burch Gaston.
Mrs. Miller retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Plant #6 after 24 years of employment. She was a member of Rogers Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jody Dwayne Miller, who died in 1981.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Pamela Dean Miller of Concord, NC and Thesa Vannoy Whitaker of Rockwell, NC; five grandchildren.

Ace "Ab" Albert Linker
Born: March 18, 1925
Died: May 21, 2002
Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Ace "Ab" Albert Linker, 77, of 2208 Lane Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at his residence after several weeks of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2002, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. Rev. David J. Duncan will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his son, Gary Linker, 4882 Concord-Salisbury Road, Kannapolis.
Mr. Linker was born March 18, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC. He was a son of the late Norman Harley Linker and the late Annie Carter Linker.
Mr. Linker was associated with Akers Motor Lines and Central Motor Lines for 42 years. He was an active member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. Mr. Linker delivered take-out meals from Lane Street Grill to Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Long Linker, who died in 1991. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in World War II.
Mr. Linker is survived by a daughter, Donna Annette Linker of Kannapolis; son, Gary Alan Linker, and his wife, Jackie, of Kannapolis; special friend, Betty Jordan of Enochville; sister, Maggie Keener of Kannapolis; two brothers, James Linker of Concord, and Coy Linker of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Meredith Linker Valentine, Phillip Bradley Linker, and Christian Aileen Goetzinger.

Ruby Walker Johnson

Died: June 10, 2002
Kissimmee, FL - Mrs. Ruby Walker Johnson, 77, of 111 Cuautla Street, Kissimmee, FL, and formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Florida Hospital in Kissimmee.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, June 14, 2002, at Bethpage Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Dr. Steve Mowery will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Born December 5, 1924, in Kannapolis, she was a daughter of the late Sylvanus Walker and the late Minnie Gheen Walker. Mrs. Johnson was a retired jeweler and worked for Walt Disney World. She was a Veteran of World War II having served as a nurse in the WAC.
Survivors includer a daughter, Deborah Ruizzo-Schofield and her husband, David, of Lincoln, RI; three sons, Donald Ruizzo and his wife, Janice, of Saint Cloud, FL, Gary Ruizzo and his wife, Jackie, of Lincoln, RI, and David Ruizzo of Texas; one sister, Lois Smith of Concord; a special friend and caregiver, Don Green of Kissimmee, FL; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Delmer Reid Smith
Born: June 3, 1926
Died: May 2, 2002
Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Delmer Reid Smith, 75, of 2203 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC, died, Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, May 4, 2002, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. Rev. Edwin Luther will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. The body will remain at Lady’s Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith was born June 3, 1926 in Cabarrus County, NC. He was a son of the late Millard Clayton Smith and the late Ollie Ashby Smith. He retired several years ago from Linn-Corriher Mills in Landis. He was a member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ruby Barnett Smith; son, Douglas R. Smith and his wife, Marilynn, of Statesville; sister, Nellie Wright of Kannapolis; three brothers, Mack Smith, Roland Smith, and Harvey Smith, all of Kannapolis; one grandson, Danny Smith of Kannapolis; and great-granddaughter, Allison Smith.
