Donald Jenner Mercer, 72; service was in Clayton
Donald Jenner Mercer, 72, of Clayton, died Tuesday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
Born May 29, 1926, in Bolivia to Miles Fletcher and Margaret Edwards Mercer, Mr. Mercer was a graduate of Bolivia High School and attended Southern College in Chattanooga, Tenn.
He lived in Creedmoor from 1965 to 1983 and in Cedar Island from 1983 to 1984.
He was a member of the Horne United Methodist Church and its Elbert Jones Sunday school class and United Methodist Men.
He was also a member of Granite Masonic Lodge 191 in Clayton.
He was a former member and president of the Creedmoor Lions Club.
He was retired from No Nonsense Fashions, Creedmoor.
His funeral was to be at 2 p.m. today at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, Clayton, with the Rev. Jerry Dodson, the Rev. Richard Stone and the Rev. James Lupton officiating.
Burial was to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Clayton.
He is survived by his wife, Etta Daniels Mercer; two daughters, Nancy Mercer Trogdon and her husband, David, of Cedar Island, and Donna Mercer Surrett and her husband, David, of Taylors, S.C.; a brother, A. Cameron Mercer of Clayton; a sister, Thelma Mercer Comeau Gregory of Clayton; and three grandchildren, Myles David Surrett, Lydia Emily Surrett and Alec Taylor Surrett, all of Taylors, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Miles Fletcher Mercer, Jr.; and a sister, Ruth Mercer Mann.

Thomas D. Cordova, 67; service to be Saturday
Thomas D. Cordova, 67, of Morehead City, died Thursday at his home.
The youngest son of the late Florence W. and Delfido Cordova, Mr. Cordova taught in the Carteret County School system for 30 years.
He additionally worked as a waterfront director at Camp Morehead during summer breaks.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Morehead City, with Dr. Richard C. Boyd officiating.
Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Park.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann Ward Williams of Red Oak, Texas; a brother, Paul W. Cordova of Morehead City; two granddaughters and two grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. of Morehead City.

She is survived by her mother, Elaine Beamer of Morehead City; her father, Bud Beamer of Beaufort; two sisters, Pam Chambers of Morehead City and Bobby Kus of Newport; a brother, Bruce Beamer of Kansas; three stepdaughters, Kelly Johnson of Rhode Island, Kim Downie of La Grange, and Theresa Moore of Michigan; two stepsons, Derek Richey of New Bern, and Ollen Richey of Virginia; and seven step-grandchildren.

Bertha Collins, 89, of Morehead City, died Tuesday night at Sunrise Rehabilitation Center.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. S.H. Barrow, III officiating.
Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, John L. Collins, Sr. of Morehead City; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Barrowman; two daughters, Roberta Layne of Mooresburg, Tenn., and Rebecca Riggs of Coeburn, Va.; three sons, Kevin Barrowman of St. Augustine, Fla., and Charles Barrowman and Edward Barrowman, both of Cape Carteret; his mother, Ruby Barrowman of Coeburn, Va.; a sister, Virginia B. Adkins of Coeburn, Va.; a brother, David Barrowman of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
