Donald Gray Carter
Donald Gray Carter, 66, of Yadkinville, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Home, 5108 U.S. Hwy. 601 N., Yadkinville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Maxine Mathis Ligon
Maxine Mathis Ligon, age 87, of Lawrenceville, Ga., formerly of Elkin, passed away on May 30, 2002.
Mrs. Ligon was the daughter of the late John W. and Florence Burchette Mathis of Elkin. She was a retired interior decorator. She had lived in the Washington, D.C., area for many years before moving to Virginia Beach, Va., to be with her son.
She is survived by her son, Samuel J. Ligon Jr., of Alpharetta, Ga.; two sisters, Wilda Humphreys of Memphis, Tenn., and Lucille Seigel of McLean, Va.; two grandchildren, Colin Ligon of Manassas, Va., and Samantha Stenger of Acworth, Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Stenger, of Acworth, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, June P. Mathis, of Bowie, Md.
Mrs. Ligon was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Samuel Ligon Sr., and by her two brothers, Keith Mathis and Harold Mathis.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin. The Rev. Cynthia L. Arnold, pastor of Jonesville First United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Jonesville First United Methodist Church.

Marian Elizabeth Connor Diorio
Marian Elizabeth Connor Diorio, age 36, of Big Bend Road, Ronda, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Diorio was born May 4, 1966, in Queens, N.Y., to Joseph and Marian Smith Connor.
Mrs. Diorio was a general manager of Sagebrush Restaurant in Wilkesboro and was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Diorio, of the home; two sons, Travis and Grant Diorio, and one daughter, Brittany Diorio, all of the home; her father and mother, Joseph and Marian Connor, of Rockaway Point, Queens, N.Y.; her father and mother-in-law, James and Marlene Diorio Sr., of Oviedo, Fla.; four brothers, Dave Connor, James Connor, Robert Connor and Frank Connor of N.Y; one sister, Rita Truex, of N.J, her special pet dog, Oreo Diorio; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members.
A rosary service will be held Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin by Father Michael Kottar.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening prior to the service from 6:30-8 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Brenner's Children’s Hospital.

Rev. Annie Burton Boyd
Rev. Annie Burton Boyd, 71, of 2509 Kroll Court, High Point, died on Sunday, October 13, 2002, at her residence. She had been declining in health for three years.
Rev. Boyd was born on October 8, 1931, in High Point, the daughter of Harrison Burton and Emma Burton Truesdale. She attended the High Point public schools, graduating from William Penn High School, class of 1954. She earned the bachelor of arts degree from Shaw University, High Point and Raleigh campuses, and pursued graduate studies in divinity at Duke University, Durham. In the early 1990s, Rev. Boyd entered the ministry and was appointed to the Elkin-Jonesville Charge, serving Wesley Chapel, Piney Grove and St. Holmes churches. She also served at Southern Pines and North Wilkesboro. Following early retirement, Rev. Boyd returned to her home church, Memorial United Methodist, High Point, where she was associate minister, past chairperson of Group 2, United Methodist Women, former teacher of Alice McLeod Sunday school class, founder and teacher of Wednesday noon Bible study, and often presented the children’s moment at the Sunday morning worship service. Her father and her sister, Harriett Burton Hoke, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Vincent (Cynthia) Boyd of Omaha, Neb., and Jared Boyd of Greensboro; three daughters, Carlene (Larry) Walker and Valda Boyd Ford, both of Omaha, Neb., and Rogena Pendergrass of High Point; 10 grandchildren, Renee, Alan, Michelle, Katina, Vincent, Nychelle, Alphonso, Kisha, Deanna and Sabrina; 15 great-grandchildren; her mother, Emma Burton Truesdale, of High Point; four brothers, Harry Truesdale of High Point, Ronald Truesdale of Jamestown, Dr. Gerald (Althea) Truesdale of Greensboro and Dr. Carlton (Linda) Truesdale of Corning, New York; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. Dewey W. Smith. Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Family visitation will be at the church on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence.

William Davis Duncan
William Davis Duncan, age 57, of Little Mountain Road, Jonesville, passed away on October 15, 2002, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Duncan was born on July 9, 1945, in Christianburg, Virginia, to Rushie Davis and Willie Dillard Duncan. He was retired from Duncan Body Shop and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Alvin Duncan of King; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John Harley (Jerrie Ann) Duncan of Elkin and Frank (Bytha) Duncan of State Road; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Wakefield Holcomb of Lenoir, Martha (James) Tilley of Lexington and Barbara (Jerry) Parsons of Winston-Salem; and one grandchild, Laken Duncan.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by Rev. John Attaway. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
John David Vincent
Mr. John David Vincent, age 56, of Pine Ridge Drive, Hamptonville, passed away Monday, February 3, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Vincent was born June 7, 1946, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Virgil and Bernice Spicer Vincent.
Mr. Vincent was retired from Applied Industries and was of the Baptist faith. His stepfather, Robert Brandon and stepson, Darold Wager preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Billings Vincent of the home; his mother, Bernice Brandon of Fairmont, W.Va.; his father, Virgil Vincent of Elkins, W.Va.; a sister, Barbara Pendergast of Fairmont, W.Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sherry Vincent of Lexington; a daughter, Janell Vincent of Charleston, S.C.; two stepdaughters and spouses, Danita and Joe Randleman of Hamptonville, Tammy and Daniel Dupart of Mandeville, La.; mother-in-law, Virginia R. Billings of Elkin; grandchildren, Eric Vincent, Jalea Vincent, Kelsey Randleman, Morgan Randleman, Josh Dupart and Lizzy Dupart; sisters-in-law and spouses, Betty and Jim Pickett, Wanda and Jackie Waddell and Mahala Nichols; several nieces and nephews and a very close friend, his dog Sheba.
Funeral services for Mr. Vincent will be held Thursday, February 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tim Cannon. Burial will follow at Benham Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

Robert Miles Long
Mr. Robert Miles Long, 67, of Hamptonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Long was born April 5, 1935, in Yadkin County to Lindsey and Nora Royal Long. He was a well-known Concrete Finisher.
Mr. Long was preceded in death by his father, Lindsey Long.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Swaim Long of the home; his mother; Nora Royal Long of Hamptonville; a stepdaughter; Patsy Swaim of Jonesville; a stepson, Johnny Swaim of Hamptonville; four sisters; Gladys (Hassell) Bennett of King, Sarah (Wimp) Roberts of King, Sandra Long of Hamptonville and Susan Harrison of Yadkinville; two brothers, Donald Long of Yadkinville and Lee (Mary) Long of Hamptonville and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Long family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Gentry Family Funeral Home, Yadkinville Chapel.
Funeral services for Mr. Long will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Gentry Family Funeral Home Chapel in Yadkinville by Rev. Gorrell Inscore. Burial will follow in the Longtown Cemetery.
Grace W. Sparks
Ila Grace Wagoner Sparks, 88, of 150 General Eddy Trail, Tryon, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus.
A native of Yadkin County, Mrs. Sparks was born July 6, 1914.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garlis Hugh Sparks.
Surviving are a daughter, Edith M. Brammer of Columbus; three sons, M. Lyvern Sparks of Missouri, D. Wayne Sparks of Florida and Ricky Sparks of Reidsville; a sister, Pauline Jarvis of Elkin; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Richard Wright.
The family received friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service in Greensboro.
