Frank Folger Sloop
Mr. Frank Folger Sloop, age 81, of State Road, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.
Mr. Sloop was born November 19, 1921, in Surry County to Walter Claude and Fannie Turner Sloop. He was a retired truck driver from Roadway Express, where he received an award for driving one million miles accident-free, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Sloop was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, during which he received a Purple Heart. He also was a member of the VFW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Sloop, and two sisters, Helen Sloop and Claudette Sloop.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim (Dana) Sloop of State Road and Bob (Sheila) Sloop of Taylorsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah (Steve) Hutchens of Yadkinville; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack (Dolly) Sloop of Jonesville; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Estelle Sloop of Elkin, Emmalene (Darrell) Knott of Elkin, Betsy (Jim) Childress of Winston-Salem, Carol Whittington of State Road, Cecil (Bill) Brock of Farmington, Gaye (Bill) Temple of Jonesville and Rachel (Jim) Brock of Farmington; five grandchildren, Josh (Karen) Sloop, Nathan Shores, Allison (Josh) Griffin, Amanda Hutchens and Gabe Sloop; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Sloop, Will Sloop and Emily Shores.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow at the Elkin Valley Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

Harvey Moser
Mr. Harvey Moser, age 73, of 401 Alex Lane, Dobson, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2002, at the Northern Hospital of Surry County following a long illness. Harvey was born in Surry County on June 8, 1929, to the late Albert and Minnie Pike Wrenn Moser. He was also preceded in death by one son, Yogi Harvey Moser. Mr. Moser was a member of the Shield of Faith Baptist Church.
Mr. Moser is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Marie Edwards Moser, of the home; seven daughters, Carolyn Bingman/Dewey Nelson of Mount Airy, Shirley Crouse/David Daughenbaugh, Helen and James Summerlin, Janie and James Largen, Bonnie Moser, Debra and Ray Edwards and Peggy Moser, all of Dobson; three sons, Jerry and Betty Moser, of Mount Airy, Wade Moser/Bertha Branch, of Dobson, and Bobby Moser, of the home; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Beck Moser and Sue Deboul Moser, both of Dobson; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie Pyles, of North wilkesboro; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Davis & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with Burial in the Dobson City Cemetery. The Rev. Ricky Cockerham, Rev. Trent Lyons and Rev. Ray Beck will be officiating. The family will receive friends at Davis & Son Funeral Home in Dobson on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m.
Ennis Greene Finney
Mrs. Ennis Greene Finney, age 93, of Hillcrest Drive, Elkin, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mrs. Finney was born on September 4, 1909, in Wilkes County to Tom Nathan and Melinda Gray Greene.
Mrs. Finney was a homemaker and a member of Elkin First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz Finney; and four sisters, Octa Walker, Hattyebelle Eidson, Vickie Hanes and Lilly Pardue.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom Finney of Elkin and Jim (Lynne) Finney of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Donna Drinnen; and one great-granddaughter, Danielle Drinnen.
A graveside service was held on Monday, December 2, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery. A memorial service followed at Elkin First Baptist Church at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church or to the donor's choice.

Brettie Hazel Wagoner Parsons
Mrs. Brettie Hazel Wagoner Parsons, age 86, of West Main Street, Yadkinville, passed away on December 29, 2002, at the Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville.
Mrs. Parsons was born on May 16, 1916, in Wilkes County to Miles Sanford and Allie Settle Wagoner. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verne E. Parsons Jr.; and three brothers, John Wagoner, Gordon Wagoner and Link Wagoner.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Rob Parsons of Yadkinville, Charlie (Robin) Parsons of Elkin and Tim (Kim) Parsons of Wilkesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Verna (Jim) Gregory of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Polly (Gene) Macemore of Jonesville, and Hessie Apple of Greensboro; three sisters-in-law, Frances Wagoner of Mountain View, Nan Wagoner of Austin and Maggie Wagoner of Yadkin Nursing Center; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jesse Garmon. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Charlie and Robin Parsons.

Fred N. Vestal
Mr. Fred N. Vestal, 91, of Swan Creek Road, Jonesville, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin.
He was born December 4, 1911, in Yadkin County to the late Harrison and Charity Pinnix Vestal. Mr. Vestal was a retired supervisor with Chatham Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Morrison Vestal; his son, Kenneth Vestal; and five brothers, Harvey Vestal, Coy Vestal, Worth Vestal, Vertle Vestal and Bob Vestal.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Teresa Vestal (Wes) Koonts, of Greensboro, Donna Vestal (Scott) Nall, of Ramseur, Marty (Kathy) Vestal, of Elizabeth City, and a sister, Pansy (James) Nations, of Jonesville; two brothers, Alton (Edith) Vestal and Elmer Vestal, all of Jonesville; his daughter-in-law, Ellen Weatherman Vestal, of Greensboro; six great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Auba Calloway.
His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2002, at Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Spencer Brown. His body was placed in the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville.

William "Edgar" Johnson
Mr. William "Edgar" Johnson, 84, of 5024 Brown Road, Hamptonville, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 22, 1918, to Will and Minnie Brown Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was a retired farmer. He was a long-standing member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hamptonville, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pearl Chappell Johnson, and a daughter, Marie Burton, both of the home; and one granddaughter, Amy (David) Cothren, of Traphill.
His funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe Souther and Rev. Larry Lefler officiating. His body was placed in the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2002, at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville.
Paul "Kevin" Brown
Mr. Paul "Kevin" Brown, 33, of North Oak Ridge Church Road, Boonville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 28, 2002.
He was born on February 23, 1969, in Forsyth County. Kevin worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation with the Bridge Inspection Division. He was a graduate of Davie High School and was an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he was active with the Mission Team and enjoyed the fellowship of playing with the church softball and basketball teams. He also was a baseball coach with the "Little Sluggers" team and was Pa's rook partner. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Comer; his father, Andy Wilkins; father-in-law, Virgil Wagoner; and niece, Kimberly Calloway.
Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Lisa Wagoner Brown, of the home; two sons, his great athlete, Matthew Brown, and his Cub Scout, Zachary Brown, both of the home; mother, Betty Jo Comer Wilkins; grandfather, Hubert Comer, of Boonville; grandmother, Dorothy Childress, of Yadkinville; sister, Angie Wilkins, and brother, Eric Wilkins, both of Davie County; mother-in-law, Joan Wagoner, of Boonville; aunts, Charlotte (Carl) Shew and Fran (Wayne) Ray; uncle, Larry (Judy) Comer; and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and friends.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, at Shady Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Stewart and Rev. Jimmy Pulley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. on Monday, December 30, at Gentry Family Funeral Service on U.S. 601, north of Yadkinville.
