Bonnie Bell Treece
Mrs. Bonnie Bell Treece, age 62, of Francis Gillian Lane, Jonesville, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Treece was born on February 8, 1939, in Stanley County to Marion William and Jeanie Fesperman Goss. She was a retired Wilco cashier and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Goss and Buster Goss.
Survivors include one son, Clay Ben Treece, of Jonesville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie (Brian) Baldwin of Taylorsville and Annie (Daniel) Collins of Jonesville; two brothers, Marion Goss of Ohio and George Goss of Thomasville; one sister, Juanita Hughes, also of Thomasville; and four grandchildren, Clay Ben Treece Jr., Joseph Lee Bowman, John Hughes and Hope Collins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at the Palestine United Methodist Church cemetery by Rev. Boyd Joyce. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

Bertha Pardue Wilcox
Mrs. Bertha Pardue Wilcox, age 86, of Riddle Road, North Wilkesboro, widow of Clint John Wilcox, died Saturday, December 28, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Roby Wilcox officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Wilcox was born in Wilkes County on May 3, 1916, to Robert (Bob) and Levia Prevette Pardue. She attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs.Wilcox is survived by five daughters, Georgia Wallace of Winston Salem, Mary Church, Judy Rhoades and Alice Crabb, all of North Wilkesboro, and Juanita Padgett of Harmony; one son, Bobby Wilcox, of Boomer; three sisters, Pearl Blackburn of Wilkesboro, Emmer Howard of Greensboro and Mary Jane McCulloch of Fayetteville; two brothers, Bill Pardue of Boomer and Frank Pardue of Newport News, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mary Victoria Francis
Mrs. Mary Victoria Francis, age 92, of 560 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, passed away on Thursday morning, December 5, 2002, at Elkin Healthcare Center. Mrs. Francis was born on April 3, 1910, in Wilkes County to John Franklin Pardue and Martha Hemric Pardue. Mrs. Francis was a member of East Elkin Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers and sisters; and her husband, Cephas Coleman Francis.
She is survived by three sons, Coleman Francis Jr. of Chapel Hill, Larry Francis of Elkin and Roy Francis of Greensboro; one daughter, Kay Raynor, of Greensboro; 23 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Roy Lee Turner and Rev. Rex Walker. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening at Johnson Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Clarence Robert Luffman
Mr. Clarence Robert Luffman, age 83, formerly of 630 Edwards Church Street, State Road, passed away Thursday morning, December 5, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. Mr. Luffman was born on September 1, 1919, in Wilkes County to Troy A. Luffman and Tiny Couch Luffman. He is survived by three sisters, Annie Ruth (Bobby) Caudle of State Road, Kathleen Haynes of State Road and Bonnie Luffman of State Road; three nieces, Joann (Joseph) Cook of State Road, Faye (Jimmy) Luther of State Road and Nellie (Jake) Burcham of State Road; four nephews, Bobby Jo (Ruby) Haynes of State Road, Billy (Donna) Haynes of State Road, Jimmy (Tammy) Caudle of State Road and Dean (Jennifer) Caudle of State Road.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. Daniel Merritt, Rev. Bobby Norman and Rev. Vernon Ball. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Luffman will lie in state from 1:30-2 p.m. prior to services. The Luffman family will receive friends Friday evening at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Thomas Aaron Thompson
Mr. Thomas Aaron Thompson, age 74, of Holleman Road, Jonesville, passed away on December 3, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Thompson was born on August 10, 1928, in Surry County to Benjamin Horton and Emma Cockerham Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was retired from Bahnson Company and was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Thompson Wingfield; a brother, Ralph Thompson; a half-brother, Horton Thompson; and a half-sister, Mary Thompson Spainhour.
Survivors include Naomi Simmons Thompson, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Chris (Brenda) Thompson of Yadkinville; one brother, Ray K. Thompson, of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Alice Thompson Umhau, of Winston-Salem; one grandson, Andrew Christian Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Tim Nelson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

Annie Lee Byrd
Ms. Annie Lee Byrd, age 87, of Greenhorn Road, Roaring River, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Ms. Byrd was born on July 18, 1915, in Wilkes County to Thomas Franklin and Annie Rebecca Tharpe Byrd.
Ms. Byrd was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Byrd.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas Hood Byrd, of the home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kent Wood and Rev. Kenneth Jordan. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Jerry M. Swaim
Mr. Jerry M. Swaim, 62, of Kernersville, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Swaim was born on August 18, 1940, in Iredell County to Richard Wesley and Maggie Sprinkle Swaim. He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees. He was the current treasurer of the J.C. Grose Sunday school class.
He retired from Stroh’s Brewing Company after 23 years of service as assistant plant controller. He was a graduate of Guilford College. He also was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a Marine Security Guard at the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy F. Swaim, of the home; one son, Jeffrey M. Swaim, and wife, Renee, of Concord; one daughter, Juli Fitzgerald, and husband, Curt, of Kernersville; his mother, Maggie Swaim, of Yadkinville; two brothers, Roger Swaim and wife, Lucy, of Hamptonville and Ricky Swaim and wife, Barbara, of Yadkinville; two grandchildren, Makayla Swaim and Jeffrey N. Swaim; and two very special aunts, Mary Lee Swaim and Janette Stoneman.
The family received friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel, Kernersville.
