Anna Lee "Jo" Bauguess Carter, 74, of Carterwas a member of the Grassy Creek Quilting Guild and is widely known for her elegant quilts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Carterand Jasmine Hanson; and six great-grandchildren, Patrick and Daniel Reynolds, Rhiannon Webb, Tristan and Briauna Abee and Tennessee, 38105.

Betty CarterBolton, age 83, of Parkwood Place, Elkin, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Bolton was born in Hayne County on May 16, 1919, to Levi and Carrie Robinson Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Bolton.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Leroy Alderman, of Sanford, Fla., and Cindy and Loyd Hughes of Clemmons; one brother, Don Robinson, of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Cora Mae Williams, of Asheville; two grandchildren, Michael Tofano and Lisa Hathaway; five great-grandchildren, Leah Tofano, Benjamin Tofano, Jacob Hathaway, and Deborah and Joshua Howick.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Don Stephens and Rev. Stewart Roten. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Wilkes County or to Gideons International.

Howard Taff Brown
Howard Taff Brown, age 66, of 500 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, passed away on Sunday morning, November 10, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.
Mr. Brown was born in Yadkin County on January 6, 1936, to William Newton Brown and Margaret Brown Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William George Brown, on July 5, 2002.
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Pernie (William) Layell, of State Road; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bobby Norman. Interment will follow at the Mitchell’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 615 West Main Street, Elkin, N.C., 28621 (336-835-3211).
James Ralph Jones
James Ralph Jones, 80, of Yadkinville, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2002.
He was born on January 29, 1922, in Virginia to the late Rev. and Mrs. Sam Jones. Mr. Jones was a retired truck driver for Holly Farms Poultry, was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Yadkin Masonic Lodge #162 A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Jones, and a brother, Paul Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Verlene Jones, of the home; a son, James Ralph "Jamie" Jones Jr., and wife, Michelle, of Rural Hall; a grandson, Chase Matthew Jones; and a half-brother, Tommy Jones.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Yadkin Memorial Gardens by Rev. Harold Salmons. Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by Yadkin Masonic Lodge #162 A.F. & A.M. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
Edith Margaret Hobson
Edith Margaret Hobson, 78, of Merriweather Drive, formerly of Elkin, died November 9, 2002.
She was born on September 28, 1924, in Surry County to Arthur Marvin and Nellie Clyde Wall. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Hobson Sr., in 1965.
Surviving are two sons, George A Hobson, and Gary Lee Hobson, both of King; two granddaughters, Samantha Jo Hobson, of Mocksville, and Amelia Caudle, of Rural Hall; one brother, Bill Wall, of La Mirada, Calif.; and an aunt, Grace Wall, and a cousin, Jimmy Wall, both of Jonesville.
There will be no formal service scheduled for Mrs. Hobson.

Barbara Ellen Weedon Page
Barbara Ellen Weedon Page, age 82, of 201 Saddle Crest, Blowing Rock, died Saturday morning, November 9, at the Charles Davant Extended Care Center.
Barbara is survived by a special friend, Margaret Cowden, of Blowing Rock; one son, Peter Page, and wife, Sarah, of Blowing Rock; one daughter, Chris McLarty, and husband, Jim, of Camden, Maine; and one sister, Nancy Spooner, of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Carlisle Page Jr.; one son, Jeff Page; and one brother, Dick Weedon.
She was born on March 15, 1920, in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Armfield Weedon. She was a long-time resident of Blowing Rock after raising her family in Elkin, where she hosted a women’s radio program. In the mountains she loved, she was an active member of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church, where she served as vestry member and champion stitcher. She was a member of Daughters of the King and volunteered at the Blowing Rock Community Library and Watauga Medical Center.
A memorial service for Barbara Ellen Weedon Page will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Saint Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Father Rick Lawler and Father Richard Demott. A reception and celebration will be held in the Parish Hall after the service.

Madison Renea Colbert
Madison Renea Colbert, of Hamptonville, passed away on Thursday, November 14, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born on October 1, 2002, to Chuck Colbert and Laura Renea Wagoner Colbert in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her paternal great- grandparents, Lonnie and Alma Pruitt and Charlie and Mary Colbert and her maternal great-grandfather, Leo Wagoner.
Loved ones left to cherish her memory include her parents, Chuck and Laura Colbert, and one brother, Cody Glenn Colbert, all of Hamptonville; maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Barbara Wagoner, of Roaring River; paternal grandparents, Glenn and Gail Colbert, of Elkin; maternal great-grandmothers, Pauline Spears of N. Wilkesboro and Annie Wagoner of Hamptonville; along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 16, from 7-9 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 17, at 2 pm at New Light Baptist Church in Roaring River. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pastor David Key and Pastor Boone Pruitt officiated. Funeral arrangements were provided by Alexander Funeral Service in Taylorsville and Hodges Funeral Home of Elkin.
