Fuquay-Varina – Needham Michael Pollard, 44, of 1100 Cokesbury Rd., died Tuesday. Funeral Services were held at 2:00pm Friday in the Chapel of Bryan – Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving: wife; Regina Pollard, daughter; Crystal Star Fry and her husband Andrew of Fuquay-Varina, Payton Skyler Pollard of Fuquay-Varina, son; Jason Turner Pollard of Fuquay-Varina, mother; Annie Edwards of Fuquay-Varina, sisters; Linda Pollard Rogers and her husband Charles of Fuquay-Varina, Phyllis Pollard Contreras of Willow Spring, step brothers; Hubert Steven Franks and his wife Durcilla of Louisburg, Ronald Reese Franks and his wife Chris of Clayton, Gregory Brent Franks and his wife Tina of Fuquay-Varina and numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Thursday from 6 to 8pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.
Etheleen Austin Norton
Etheleen Austin “Granny” Norton passed away on August 30, 2004 at the Cape Fear Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. at the age of 81. She was born on December 18, 1922 in Wake County to the late Evie Ella Betts Austin and James Clarence Austin.
She retired from Cornell-Dubilier after 25 years of service only to go on to be the “Best Biscuit Maker at McDonald’s” in Fuquay-Varina for 14 years. She was preceded in death by a son; Luther J. Norton, Jr., daughter; Mary Ann Hilliard, sisters; Elsie Casper and Mae Pulley, and brother; Josiah Talton Austin.
Mrs. Norton is survived by one son; Johnny W. Norton, Sr. of Holly Ridge, sisters; Louise Holt of Raleigh, Wanda Gravitt of Angier, Joyce Vaughan of Angier, and Jeanne Timberlake of Clayton, brothers; J.C. Austin of Cary, Jimmy Austin of Raleigh, Dale Austin of Smithfield and Bruce Austin of California. She had seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A visitation/memorial service was held on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at the Bethany Baptist Church in Wendell, N.C

Willow Spring - Pollyanna Woodward Sheets, 75, lifelong resident of Willow Spring died on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at her home. A service celebrating her life will be held at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with the Revs. Gene and Valerie Tyson and the Rev. Dr. Branson Sheets officiating.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert B. Sheets, Jr.; son, Branson Sheets (Stephanie) of Greenville, NC; daughter, Melodie Langford (Dan) of Lakeway, TX; and son, Wesley Sheets (Linda) of Nashville, NC; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Rebekah, Robby, Wesley, Christopher, Catherine, Charlotte, and Allison.
Polly was a graduate of Fuquay Springs High School and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (UNCG). After staying at home with her young children until they all were in school, she began her teaching career at Fuquay-Varina Middle School. Her training was in home economics, but with no position available, she went back and got certified in special education. She eventually served as the department chair and taught for 27 years.
Polly was an active member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities through the years: Sunday School teacher, Chair of the Council on Ministries, Chair of the Memorial Committee, and most recently, leader in the Stephen Ministry program. She served for many years in the FV Junior Woman’s Club and the FV Woman’s Club. She also served at the FV Food Pantry and at the Centennial Museum of Fuquay-Varina.
The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015.

Lucille C. Freeman
Lucille Campbell Freeman, 84, died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004. Graveside services were held on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at the Wake Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Freeman, and a son, Larry Eugene Freeman. She is survived by a son; A. Wayne Freeman, grandsons; Aaron A. Freeman and Alexander C. Freeman, brothers; Junius and Gene of Fuquay-Varina, sisters; Ruby C. Pope of Fuquay-Varina and Mary C. Sternberger of Wilmington, N.C.
The family received friends at the home of A. Wayne Freeman at 300 Ramblewood Drive in Raleigh. Arrangements were by Sugg Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina.
Sirena Phelps Byrd
Mrs. Sirena Phelps Byrd, age 91, of Lillington, N.C. died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at the Dunn Rehabilitation Center in Dunn, N.C.
In 1948, Mrs. Byrd founded Sirena’s Gift and Flower Shop. For 34 years, she provided beauty to her community through her talent with flowers. In 1984, she retired from the florist business and opened Sirena’s Courtyard Restaurant in downtown Lillington. She owned and operated this restaurant for six years until she sold it in 1991. Active in Lillington, Sirena was elected the first female Lillington Town Councilwoman. She was a charter member of the Lillington Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving in local officer positions as well as District Director for the NCBPW and Vice-President of the Southeast Region. She was a member of the Lillington Presbyterian Church, former member and past president of the Four Season’s Garden Club, and a member of the Tea and Topics Book Club.
In 2003, Mayor Grover Smith awarded her with a Town Resolution of Congratulations, honoring her on her 90th birthday. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Rudy Reyes, the staff at Good Hope Hospital and the staff at the Dunn Rehabilitation Nursing Center for all their love and care for Mrs. Byrd during her illness.
Surviving Mrs. Byrd is daughter Elizabeth B. Murchison and her husband Hill, both of Lillington; brother Kenneth Phelps of Lillington; sister Dorothy Dawson of Lillington and sister Rachel Jones of Morganton, N.C.; grandson Edward Murchison and wife Diana and grandson Scott Murchison and wife Lynn, all of Lillington; and great-grandchildren Scotty, Tyler and Erin Leigh Murchison, all of Lillington.
O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home was the place of visitation on Saturday, Sept. 11, and other times at the home of Hill and Elizabeth Murchison. Funeral services were on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lillington Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. William Goodnight and Rev. Jeff Roberts led the service, after which Mrs. Byrd was laid to rest at Westview Memorial Gardens.

Beulah Vesta Nuckles Harrington

Fuquay-Varina - Beulah Nuckles Harrington, 98, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Windsor Point Retirement Community, where she had resided for over 16 years. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 10005 Lake Wheeler Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Bea was married to Rev. Curtis Harrington for 63 years, assisting him in his duties as a Baptist minister and serving as Sunday school Teacher and choir member at Kentuck Baptist Church in VA, East Sanford Baptist Church and Summerfield Baptist Church in NC, as well as various churches in the Raleigh and Greensboro areas on an interim basis. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina.
As a minister's wife, Bea's time was devoted to church activities, but she also had other interests. She became a licensed cosmetologist while living in VA and prided herself on "fixing hair any way you want it, " in her back porch shop. She was also an excellent cook - her potato soup and fried okra were special - and she loved anything chocolate.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alma Nuckles; 12 brothers and sisters; husband, Rev. Curtis M. Harrington; and grandson, James Lee Harrington.
Bea's remaining family include a son, James P. Harrington (Brenda) of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Frenda Ann Carr (Gerry) of Ooltewah, TN; granddaughter, Gayle Harrington of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Chris Carr (Pamela) of Fleetwood, PA; and great-grandchildren, Trent, Jessi, and Evan of Raleigh, NC, and Cale and Cameron of Fleetwood, PA; brother, Billy Nuckles (Gail) of Greensboro, NC; sister, Mary Lee Westmoreland of Colfax, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annie Hair Byrd
Annie Hair Byrd, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004. Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Her burial was at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, C. W. Byrd; sons, Wayne Byrd and Ricky Byrd both of Raleigh; daughter, Peggy Ledeboer of Springfield, Virginia; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Angus Hair of Fuquay-Varina. The family received friends on Friday, September 10 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
