Roger Wade Erwin
Roger Wade Erwin, a retired auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense and a resident of Angier, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, after a courageous three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Mr. Erwin was born on Aug. 25, 1944, in Huntington, W.Va., the younger of two sons born to Robert Lee Erwin and Ruby Midkiff Erwin. He was a 1962 graduate of Barboursville High School, where he was class valedictorian. He attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in accounting. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from Marshall in 1979.
Mr. Erwin served his country in the Army. He was on active duty from April 1968 to January 1970. Thereafter, he remained in the Army Reserves and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Midkiff Erwin; his brother, Robert L. Erwin; an uncle, Jerrell Wayne Erwin; an aunt, Virginia Pauline Bandy; and many cousins. He was interred in the Erwin family plot at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Huntington, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Edwards Cancer Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Arrangements were by Apex Funeral Home.
Sarah Ann Simmons
Sarah Ann Simmons, 85, of Roanoke, Va., died of natural causes Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2003, at Oakwood Manor in Bedford, Va.
She is survived by two sons, Ted Simmons and wife Shirley of Bedford, and Wayne Simmons of Montvale, Va.; two daughters, Geraldine S. Hamilton and husband David of Cary, and Ruby Musselman of Fort Worth, Texas; two granddaughters, Ruth Ann Freeman and husband Mike, and Dee Glasl, all of Apex; and one great-granddaughter, Sara Ruth Glasl of Apex.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Lone Star Cemetery of Covington, Va.

Harold LaMartin Noell Jr.
Harold LaMartin Noell Jr., 71, died peacefully at Rex Hospital on Friday, March 12, 2004. He was a native of Durham. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Institute and East Carolina University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He was a former Raleigh Jaycee, Master Mason and Shriner.
Mr. Noell retired as an investigator with Retail Credit/Equifax Corp., and was a licensed real estate broker who prided himself with providing clean, affordable housing for many in Durham. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Sue Noell, in July 2001.
Surviving are his sons, Harold L. Noell III and wife Patricia of Mebane, and Robert W. Noell of Cary; and four grandchildren, Anna Lindsay Noell, Harold Noell IV, Robert Noell Jr. and Delanie Sue Noell.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Oakwood Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh.

James C. Allen
James C. Allen, 87, of Apex died Thursday, March 11, 2004. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served with the Sea Bees during the Normandy Invasion. As strong a man as he was, he was an avid lover of birds and flowers.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Allen of the home; sons James R. and wife Joni of Ohio, and William Allen of Apex; daughters Anne Smith and husband Dan of Louisburg, Kay Carroll and husband Harry of Garner, and Betty Jean Clifton and husband Michael of Reidsville; a brother, Robert Allen of New York; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Sunday, March 14, at 3 p.m. in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina.
The family received friends from noon until 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 14, at Apex Funeral Home, prior to the service.
Bonnie Bess Stephens
Bonnie Bess Stephens, 63, of Cary died Friday, March 12, 2004, at home. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 17, in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the New Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in New Hill.
Surviving are her husband, Aubrey Lee Stephens of Garner; and four sons, Aubrey Lee Stephens Jr. and wife Bonnie of Apex, David Karl Stephens and wife Dian, Ralph Eugene Stephens, and Tony Perry Stephens, all of Cary. Also surviving are her mother, Eunice Mitchell Hinsley, and two brothers, Johnny Hinsley and Ronald Hinsley, all of New Hill; six sisters, Virginia H. Mills and Nancy H. Huey, both of Warsaw, Shirley H. Vest of West End, Jackie H. Hendricks of Cary, Darlene H. Coats of New Hill, and Linda Hinsley of Apex; and two grandchildren.
The family received friends from noon until the funeral service.

Anthony A. Ceccarelli
A memorial Mass for Anthony A. Ceccarelli will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary, on Friday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
Mr. Ceccarelli, 46, of Cary, formerly of Aliquippa, Pa., died at home on Dec. 22, 2003, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 23, 1957, in Aliquippa, he was a son of the late Nazzareno and Theresa (Mandity) Ceccarelli.
Anthony was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He was a 1976 graduate of Quigley High School and a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. He was employed by Mine Safety Appliances as a senior regional sales representative for North Carolina.
Surviving are his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Donald Berbel, Baden, Pa.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ned and Shirley Ceccarelli, Hopewell Township, and their children, Rachel Bryson and her husband John, Robin and Ryan Ceccarelli; a brother, James Ceccarelli, Center Township, and his children, Tarah and Brooke Ceccarelli and his beloved soul mate, Lori McKittrick, Hopewell Township.
Anthony was a kind and loving man who fully enjoyed life. He touched many lives and his memory will fondly remain in the hearts of all those who loved him.
A luncheon will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Center immediately following the memorial Mass.

Al Jeter Jr.
Al Jeter Jr., 29, of Raleigh, went to be with his heavenly father on March 24, 2004.
A graveside service conducted by Pastors Ronnie Saville and Rodney Finch was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family received friends at the graveside.
Al is survived by his mother, Pat Jeter of Raleigh; father, Al Jeter Sr., and wife, Pat, of Apex; sisters, Shannon Jeter of Raleigh, Karen Jeter and Savanah Banta, both of Apex; fiancée, Stephanie Daye of Raleigh; paternal grandmother, Eve Agnes Jeter; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Arrangements were entrusted to Apex Funeral Home.
Jo Ann Mullinix
Jo Ann Mullinix, 51, of 728 Kingswood Drive, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 27, 2004. Jo Ann died with her family at her side.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. Services were held Tuesday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 Lochmere Drive.
Jo Ann requested that all in attendance dress casual.
She was born Jan. 27, 1953, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Gerald and Emma Giles. Jo Ann was a 1975 University of South Dakota graduate and held the position of magistrate and city finance officer for North Sioux City, S.D., from 1976 to 1980. Jo Ann was wed to Tam A. Mullinix on Aug. 18, 1979, in Elk Point, S.D. Jo Ann remained a resident of Elk Point for over 10 years, during which time she retired from the position of magistrate to raise her family.
"Dakota Jo" and her family moved to Cary in 1990. For the past five years, Jo enjoyed working at Ashworth's Drugs in Cary.
Jo Ann cared deeply for those she loved and was part of the closest, most loving family one could imagine. Jo Ann's favorite hobbies were bingo, baking and collecting a wide variety of items.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by Tam Mullinix and leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Joshua and Justin Mullinix; two sisters, Jackie Giles and Julie Brown; two brothers, Michael and Daniel Giles; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann's life deeply touched everyone she encountered. We all loved her very much and will miss her greatly. Condolences can be sent to Brown-Wynne Funeral home.
