Allie Martin Howard, Sr.
Allie Martin Howard, Sr., 94, of 1580 Morrisville-Carpenter Rd., went home to be with his Lord Saturday morning, April 8, 2006.
He was a retired tobacco farmer, and the oldest living member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
A service celebrating his life and home going was held on Monday April 10 in Good Hope Baptist Church in the Carpenter Community. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Howard was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he was a special friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Sears Howard in 1984, and also by two daughters; Betty H. Cartrette, and Pattie H. Cartrette.
Mr. Howard is survived by two sons; Allie Martin Howard, Jr. and wife Carolyn, and Johnny N. Howard and wife Dale, all of Morrisville, a daughter; Jackie H. Grey of Woodbridge, VA, a son in law; Paul Cartrette of Apex, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the Good Hope Baptist Church Building Fund and mailed to 6628 Good Hope Church Rd., Cary, NC 27519.
Sylvia Jean Adams
Mrs. Sylvia Jean Adams, 72, of Sanford passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 in her home. Mrs. Adams is survived by husband Charles Adams, of Sanford; daughters Elaine Frank and husband Bill of Highland Village, TX; Lisa Thurow and husband Glenn of Wirlinga, NSW, Australia and Jeanne Player and husband Richard III of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Holly Frank, Ainslee Thurow, Lewis Player and Harrison Player; and brother, Larry Jones of Raleigh.
There will be a visitation held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service and Crematory in Fayetteville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with a private family burial taking place following the service.

Thelma Lee Hester Baker
Thelma Lee Hester Baker went home to Jesus May 19, 2011 from her house in Fuquay-Varina. She was born October 31, 1932 in Harnett County to the late Lattie Ennis Hester and James Ross Hester. She was married to the late Percy Lee Baker of Harnett County. Thelma had two children; son the late William Ross Hester and daughter Lusettie Kim Flowers and husband Gary Flowers; granddaughters Tiffany Flowers Howard of Rockingham, N.C., and Crystal Flowers Glenn of Valdosta, Ga.; sisters Peggy Lee Costner of South Carolina, Doris Davis of South Carolina, Linda Hester Theys of Fuquay-Varina; brothers James Roscoe Hester of Fuquay-Varina and Kenny Topps of South Carolina; and step-brothers Earl and Jack Smith.
She was a long-time member of Baptist Grove Baptist Church. She retired from ABB (Westinghouse Division) after 32 years in 1991. She has been cared for by her daughter, Kim, and son-in-law, Gary Flowers, sisters in Christ, Diana Ordway and Terri Reed, sister, Linda Theys, niece, Jewel Johnson, and husband, Raymond, as well as the wonderful staff of Johnson Ambulance Service.
A funeral service was held at Baptist Grove Church on Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. Burial followed at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to honor her memory with a donation to LifeSpring Community Church, PO Box 1646, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 in her memory. Fred Lee Dean
Fred Lee Dean, 71, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Fred was born in Wake County to the late Hursel G. Dean and Mary Nordan Dean. Fred is survived by his brother, Bobby W. Dean of Santarosa Beach, Fla. There was a private graveside service on May 18 at Willow Spring Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The services was officiated by Rev. Bobby Dean. Arrangements by Williford Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina.
Tommie M. Shields
Mr. Tommie M. Shields, 67, of Mamers died Friday, May 13, 2011 at his home. A native of Lee County, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delsie Shields, and his father, Willie Shields. Mr. Shields was self-employed as a residential carpenter. He was an active and dedicated member of Antioch Baptist Church, a master gardner and a member of several square dancing clubs.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, May 20 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers
with Rev. Martin Groover and Rev. Craig Morrison officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his mother, Elsie Clark Shields; brothers, Ronnie Shields and Eddie Shields both of Sanford; sister, Annie McElroy of Sanford; stepson, Devon Brown of Mamers; stepdaughter, Machelle Morrison of Mamers; four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Linda Mason
Fuquay-Varina – Linda Mason, 55, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina.
She is survived by her husband Donnie Mason; sons Alex and wife Myra Mallery of Wilson, and Kevin Mallery and Beth Lancaster of Clayton; daughter Crystal Mason and Chris Wing of Fuquay-Varina; sister Barbara and husband Eddie Tant of Willow Spring, sister Brenda Montgomery of Raleigh; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Sandra, Denise and Peggy.
Linda is predeceased by her parents, Horace W. Montgomery and Pauline Dean.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, May 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina.
