Dr. Donald Wayne "Don" Taylor
March 05, 2012
Dr. Donald Wayne "Don" Taylor, 76 years old, and known as "PaPa" to his three granddaughters, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 5, 2012 surrounded by his family.
Don was born January 21, 1936 to Doris Phillips and Carl Taylor. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Proctor Taylor. He spent his childhood working the family farms in the Wendell, Rolesville and Fuquay areas. When not working, he did enjoy a good game of pool, and was quite the player.
After marrying his High School sweetheart (he was her school bus driver), he enlisted in the US Navy and served 4 years on a destroyer, the USS Kidd. He then returned to Raleigh. After receiving his Electrical Engineering degree from North Carolina State University, he worked for General Electric in Virginia, until deciding he would rather work in a profession that allowed him more of an opportunity to help people. He attended the University of North Carolina Dental School and practiced dentistry until his retirement at age 50. Retirement did not suit Don, so he obtained a general contractors license and began building houses in the Fuquay area. At age 74, Don decided to return to dentistry to start a dental clinic for the Falcon Children's Home in Falcon, NC and continued working wherever he was needed in NC. Most will remember Don for his enormously large heart and smile, always lending a hand and giving great advice.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his wife of 56 years, Faye Rowland Taylor; his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Thomas Morris; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christie Taylor; his three beloved granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Samantha, and Abigail Taylor and his "adopted" daughter and son-in-law, Lizzy and Hector Plate.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 8, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 1:30 - 3:00 pm prior to the service on Thursday, March 8.
The family would like to thank all of Don's friends, Hospice of Wake County and Dr. Robert Starkenburg and his staff.
