Fuquay-Varina – Horace Jefferson (Jeff) Williams, Jr., 62, a retired agent of the N.C. Department of Justice, State Bureau of Investigation, died peacefully in his home on Friday, February 24, 2012.
Jeff was born July 22, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the only son of Horace and Mary Sue Williams, of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Marjie Crauthers.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Gail Spikes Williams; one daughter, Christiana Elizabeth Dennis and husband, Todd Patrick Dennis of Fuquay; three grandchildren, Kailey Christiana Harb, Patrick Jefferson Dennis and Natalie Lane Dennis all of the home; four sisters, Joni Maxvill of Plano, Texas, Sandy Mathisen and husband, Donnie of Robstown, Texas, Helen Kay Wallace of Longview, Texas and Nora Lee Bragg of Champaign, Illinois.
Jeff was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a decorated soldier who proudly served, following in his father’s footsteps.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Services will follow the visitation in the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Tim Batten officiating. Interment will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens, 905 Wake Chapel Road, Fuquay-Varina.
Exie Lee Tutor Sears

Fuquay-Varina – Exie Lee Tutor Sears went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, February 13, 2009.
Her 92 years were spent being a faithful wife and mother. Her greatest joy was being of service to others. She will be greatly missed by all of us who have been touched by her loving and caring person and that lesson will be passed on by us as long as we shall live.
She was preceded in death by her husband Coy Clifton Sears, daughter Peggy Jean Sears, daughter-in-law Barbara Vaughn Sears, wife of Joe Sears, brothers Brantley Tutor and Leo Tutor and sister-in-law Tula Tutor
She is survived by her children of Fuquay-Varina; sons Wayne and wife Hope, Carson and wife Ernestine, daughter Brenda Sears Harrell and husband Linwood, sons Joe Sears and Johnnie Sears and wife Glindra, eight grand children, five great grand children, sister-in-law Minnie Tutor Holt of Garner any many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina. Funeral service and interment will be Monday, 11 a.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6678 River Road, Fuquay-Varina. The family will be meeting at the home of Brenda and Linwood at 6018 Cokesbury Rd., Fuquay-Varina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
Jean Brickhouse Young

Fuquay-Varina – Jean Brickhouse Young, 59, died Wednesday, February 18 at her home in Fuquay-Varina.
She is survived by her husband Bobby Young; sons Mark and Ryan Dickerson of Raleigh; mother Wilma Spencer of Columbia NC; sisters Pat and husband Bob Armstrong of Columbia NC and Rita and husband Jerry Rhodes of Plymouth NC; and brother Lee Spencer of Cary NC.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, February 20, from 6 to 8 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Ennis, Fuquay-Varina. Burial will handled by Bryan Funeral Home, telephone 252-796-5159, in Columbia NC on Saturday, February 21.
Retha Frances Smith Gardner

Fuquay-Varina – Retha Frances Smith Gardner, 98, was born on January 17, 1911 and died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Rawls Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Rawls Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Gaynelle and Jimmy Holder, 10800 US 401 North, Fuquay-Varina.
She was the oldest of eleven children born to B. Carlton and Ola Ossie Baker Smith. Retha had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, her Savior, and served in her place of worship, Rawls Baptist Church in many positions, one of which was the first deaconess in the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Turner Hal Gardner, four brothers and two sisters.
Retha leaves many loving memories to her five children, Benjamin Norfleet Gardner and wife, Barbara of Coats, Alfred Turner Gardner of Panama City, FL, Carolyn Virginia Gardner of Charlotte, Retha Elmore and husband, H. T. of Hope Mills, Ola Gaynelle Holder and husband, Jimmy of Fuquay-Varina; she also leaves memories to treasure to seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Dwight Smith and wife, Peggy of Garner and Raeford Smith and wife, Mary of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Coreene McGee of Raleigh and Annie Dell Wilkes of Mamers.

Brenda Beasley Francis

Holly Springs – Brenda Beasley Francis, 63, died suddenly on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunrise United Methodist Church, Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs. Interment will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina.
Brenda was a native of Johnston County, the daughter of the late Johnnie and Viola Beasley. She was a founding charter member of Sunrise United Methodist Church in Holly Springs where she served as a trustee and in many other leadership roles in the early years of the church. She loved her Sunday School class and all of her church family. She was affectionately known as “Mama Brenda” to many in the church. Brenda was a life member of the NCSU Alumni Association and shared her husband’s love of Wolfpack Football. Brenda loved trips to Myrtle Beach. She loved beach music and shag dancing with her husband. Brenda was a special person, outgoing and loving to every one she met. She was a wonderful wife and mother, loving every minute she could spend with her son. She was so caring to other people and anyone in need. She loved just socializing with friends and acquaintances. She loved her flowers, quilting and many other hobbies.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Ray Beasley and Lyndell Beasley, a sister, Shirley Watkins and brother in law, Bobby Watkins.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Larry Francis; son, Johnny Francis of Fuquay-Varina and her beloved dog, “Sissy”; sister, Susan Allen and husband, Tommy of Raleigh; sister in law, Rosemary Beasley of Angier; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 21 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina and other times at the home, 345 Fieldstone Drive, Holly Springs.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Sunrise United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Garner – Leroy Cox, 79, went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, March 6, 2009. A Memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Pleasant Plains Community Church, 90 Boykin Road, Lillington, North Carolina.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Thomas and Nella Cox; and sister Louise Hall. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Cox; three sons, Dennis Cox and wife, Cindy of Benson, Kenneth Cox and wife, Lew Ann of Henderson, Jerry Cox and wife, Anita of Raleigh; daughter, Gloria Johnson and husband, Keith of Garner; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his faithful dogs, Missy and Smokey.
Family will receive friends Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pleasant Plains Community Church and other times at 4660 Jones Sausage Road, Garner, North Carolina.
