Robert William Rennie, 54, of 2000 Evans Road, Franklinton, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Franklinton. Robert was born in Lachine, Quebec, Canada July 11, 1950 to Helen E. Poyner Rennie and Earle W. Rennie.
Robert grew up in Pointe Claire, Quebec and worked on a dairy farm at a young age. He moved to Buenos Aires at age 21 where he became a paraplegic after falling from a roof while working. Over the years he became very independent and always willing to help others. He attended Broward County Community College in FL and married Rose Marie Landis and her two sons Benjamin E. Carr and Daniel A. Carr, December 14, 1991. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served many positions, his favorites being Cub Master and missionary work.
Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 14, 2004 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial followed in Wake Forest Cemetery.
Mr. Rennie is survived by his wife, Rose Landis Rennie; sons, Benjamin Carr of Ecuador and Daniel Carr; Parents, Helen and Earle Rennie of Quebec; sisters Pat, Diane and Beverly.
Robert has left family and friends with a deeper understanding of what it means to love and be loved.

William B.“Bill” Kuykendall
William Brown “Bill” Kuykendall, 69, of 2233 Old NC 98 Highway, Wake Forest, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital. He was born in Haywood County the son of the late Hazel Moody Kuykendall and Ralph Shoe Kuykendall. Mr. Kuykendall was a member of the Wake Forest Baptist Church, Young at Heart Club, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the North Raleigh Lions Club.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock, Saturday afternoon August 14, 2004 at Wake Forest Baptist Church with Dr. Rev. R.G. Puckett and Rev. Bary Hayes officiating. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Kuykendall is survived by his wife, Judy Keith Kuykendall; daughter, Elizabeth K. Peeples and her husband, Dr. Johnny Peeples of Eastman, GA; grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Peeples and by Judy’s son Keith Barham whom he loved like a son.

Fred H. Wheeler
Fred H. Wheeler, 85, of 1856 Flat Rock Church Road, Louisburg, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg. He was born in Franklin County and was the son of the late David and Zelma Layton Wheeler. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church; two time past-master of Youngsville Lodge #377 A.F. & A.M. and retired from Schrader Bellows in 1986.
Masonic graveside funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, August 12, 2004 at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eva Perry Wheeler; daughter, Faye W. Layton and husband, Richard of Louisburg; sons, Fred H. Wheeler, Jr. and wife, Ann of Franklinton and Andy Wheeler and wife, Karla of Wilmington; brothers, Harold Wheeler and Julius Wheeler both of Franklinton; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jewel P. Layton
Jewel Preddy Layton, of Durham, passed on peacefully to her eternal life in Heaven, Monday, August 9, 2004 at Durham Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She celebrated her 83rd birthday on June 29th with family and friends.
Jewel was the only child born to Jasper and Luna Belle Preddy of Franklinton, NC, who preceded her in death. She was known for her sense of humor, laughter, love of music, and generosity and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Jewel is survived by one daughter Cathy Joy and husband, Mike of Lees Summit, MO; and two sons Richard Layton and wife, Deborah of Durham; Mike Hobbs and wife, Dee of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care, compassion and professionalism extended to Jewel and her family by the staff of Eno Pointe Assisted Living, the staff of 5-3 Durham Regional Hospital, Dr. Anne Glover, Dr. Bruce Mallenbaum, Dr. Mitchell Anscher, Dr. Neal Axon, and Dr. James Cho.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Richard Layton, Durham, NC.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Glenn “Pete” Staples, Sr.
Glenn A. “Pete” Staples, Sr., 74, loved father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton, VA.
He was born and raised in Durham, the son of the late Fannie K. Williamson Staples and Alex Terrell Staples and was married to Peggy Turner Staples who preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 11’ o’clock, Friday morning August 13, 2004 at Wake Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Murphy and the Rev. Les Burleson officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham.
Mr. Staples is survived by his daughters, Beth Jones and her husband, Chuck of Youngsville, Susan Baldonado and her husband, Al of VA, and Kathy Lang and her husband, John of FL; sons, Glenn Staples, Jr. and his wife, Jina of Fayetteville and Barry Green and his wife, Ramona of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Thelma Scott, Viola Knight, Marie Johnson and Mary Chandler all of Durham; brothers, Michael Johnson of SC and Norman Staples of Belmont, NC; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
