Mary Ella Dodd Mangum, age 56, of Wilmington and Wake Forest died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 after a long battle with cancer.
Her parents, Carey and Elizabeth Dodd and sister, Francina Dodd O'Hara preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Mangum, president of Wake Electric in Youngsville; children, Eleanor and Jim, three grandchildren and her sister, Harriett Dodd Barlowe.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 16th and Market Street, Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall after the memorial service.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Nature Conservancy.
Clifton L. Alley
Clif Alley of Aiken, S.C. formerly of Wake Forest, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Aug. 10, 2004.
Clif was a WWII veteran with service in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Kirsch Company where he worked for more than 40 years.
Clif was born in Minneapolis, Minn., Dec. 3, 1916.
He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and an avid golfer. Clif was the husband of the late Pauline Alley.
He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Newhouse and her husband, Neal, of Wake Forest and Debra Lewis and her husband, Charles, of Aiken, S.C.; five grandchildren, Joy Tranynor, Neal Newhouse, Jeffery Newhouse, Amanda Lewis and Justin Lewis; six great- grandchildren; and a brother, Don Alley of Minneapolis.
Clif was a positive, sweet person who always saw his glass half-full; never complaining; living his life according to the teachings of St. Francis.
The rite of Christian funeral was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aiken.
The family wishes to give sincere thanks to the Trinity Lutheran Home for such great care.
Shafter Eugene Fort
Shafter Eugene Fort, retired U.S. Air Force, 72, Wake Forest, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital.
He was born in Oklawaha, Fla., the son of the late Mary Lamar Johnson Fort and Otis Benjamin Fort.
Mr. Fort retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service and later retired from The Great American Insurance Company after 16 years off service. He was a member of the Wake Forest Baptist Church.
Mr. Fort is survived by his wife, Alice Bobbitt Fort; two daughters, Cris Nelson of Wake Forest and Kim Whitley of Atlanta, Ga.; a son Kurt Fort and his wife, Rhonda, of Knightdale; five grandchildren, Brandy Nelson of Wake Forest; Specialist Scott Nelson, U.S. Army of Germany; Reece Whitley of Atlanta, Ga.; Ashley Whitley of Atlanta, Ga.; and Taylor Fort of Knightdale; a brother, O.B. Fort of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and two sisters, Charlotte Davis of Conway, S.C. and Nancy Keller of Clayton, Ga.
Mr. Fort was predeceased by his son, Scott Fort.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Dr. Rev. R.G. Puckett officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service, at Bright Funeral Home.
Homer Ernest Hughes Jr.
Homer Ernest Hughes, Jr., 75, of Louisburg, died Aug. 12, 2004.
He was born in Columbus County, the son of the later Homer Ernest and Pauline Wells Hughes, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wheless Hughes; a daughter and son-in-law, Celeste and Rodney Hoffman, and a son, John Hughes, all of Louisburg; two sisters, Betty Raistrick of Miami, Fla., and Marilyn Thomas of Lake Waccamaw; and two brothers, Edward Hughes of Henderson and Wilton Hughes of Oglethorpe, Ga.
A graveside funeral was held Aug. 16 at Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Daugherty officiating.

Sherrill I. Johnson, Jr.
Sherrill Isaiah Johnson, Jr., 50, passed away at his home Sunday morning, Aug. 15, 2004. He was born Aug.28, 1953, to Mr. Sherrill I. Johnson, Sr. of Charlotte and the late Mrs. Lois Mangum Johnson. Sherrill was a compassionate man who loved life and was friend to all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Gale Watson Johnson; two sons, Sherrill Johnson, III and his wife, Tammy; and Chris Johnson and his wife, Anya; a brother; Kyle Johnson and fiancé, Melissa Mobley; a sister, Terri Barber; two grandchildren, Garrett and Lauren Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was held Tuesday at the Falls of Neuse Cemetery in Raleigh.
Norma Simpson Reaser
Norma Simpson Reaser, 65, beloved wife and mother, passed away Aug.6, 2004.
She was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Coxsackie, N.Y. Norma was a registered nurse for 36 years and worked for numerous hospitals in New York, Raleigh, and Louisburg.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David C. Reaser; her daughters, Laura R. Winston of Youngsville and Kathryn "Kitty" L. Reaser of Wynne, AR.
She was predeceased by her father, Clyde Simpson and her mother, Frances Leona Decker Simpson.
A memorial service was held Aug. 18, in Chapel of BrownWynne Funeral Home.
