DURHAM -- Mrs. Peggy Mangum Crabtree, 79, of 1719 Bahama Road, widow of Adolphus Crabtree, died Saturday morning in Durham Regional hospital. Mrs. Crabtree was born in a lifelong resident of Durham County. She attended the Durham County schools and was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. Mrs. Crabtree was a caregiver who touched many lives and hearts. Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Norma Walters. Burial will be the church cemetery.
Surviving: son, Bobby Crabtree of Bahama; two daughters, Edna "Tootsie" Bass and her husband Hugh of Durham, and Cathy Crabtree of Durham; brother, Bruce Mangum of Durham and sister, Verlie Wilkins of Durham; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Pam and Darrell Slaughter, Teressa and Keith Cooley, Kenny and Jeanette Bass, Steve and Helen Bass, Roger and Carolyn Bass, Ruby and Tommy Mangum, and Denise and John Turner; ten great-grandchildren, Kristin Slaughter, Kelly Slaughter, Bryce Mangum, Jordan Mangum, Wesley Cooley, Brittany Bass, Chad Bass, Adam Bass, Anna Bass, and Daniel Bass.
Mrs. Crabtree was preceded in death by her son Clarence A. Crabtree, her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Burch Crabtree; brothers Spencer and Isaac Mangum; and sister Sadie Robinson, Elsie Wilkins, Lillian Mangum, and Mamie Mangum.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7-9 p.m. at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Bass, Roger Bass, Steve Bass, Bradley Hopkins, Mike Mangum, Thomas Mangum, Tony Mangum, and Darrell Slaughter. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Bahama EMS Fire and Rescue Squad, Ben Crabtree, Graham Crabtree, Keith Cooley, Haywood Ellis, Joe Ellis, Winston Ellis, Carl Hopkins, Allen Martin, Onice Parrish, Mike Pintor, Eddie Sykes, Danny Tackett, John Turner, Cecil Wilkins.

WILLADA R. DENT
DURHAM -- Willada Rickman Dent, 88, of Prospect, KY, daughter of the late Rev. William R. and Martha Gladys Hall Rickman of the Caldwell community of Orange County, died Thursday at her home. A native of Virginia, and a former resident of Durham, Mrs. Dent graduated from Watts School of Nursing. Her husband, the late Paul Lawrence Dent, was surgeon at Camp Butner during WWII. Mrs. Dent was a member of Averett College Alumni Association in Danville, VA, Kentucky Historical Society, Friends of the State Archives, Filson Club Historical Society, Oldham County (KY) Historical Society, Missouri Historical Society, Louisville Orchestra Association, and the Long Run Hounds and Clear Creek Beagles Club.
Mrs. Dent is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Marshall L. Helms, Mrs.James D. Hammer, Mrs. William F. Herrfeldt, and Mrs. John M. Barr II; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held Monday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Louisville, KY. Burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

RUTH MILLER DRISCOLL
RALEIGH -- Ruth Miller Driscoll, died Saturday morning, January 24, at Springmoor.
Mrs. Driscoll was born in 1902, in East Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Everett Henry and Grace MacLachlan Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rear Admiral Roland Donald Driscoll (U.S. Navy Chaplain in the Pacific during World War II) and her son, Robert Miller Driscoll.
Mrs. Driscoll and her husband made their home in California, for many years, where she worked as a model for Bullock's Department Store in Lakewood, and Los Angeles. Mrs. Driscoll was a lifelong community volunteer with special interest toward the needs of children. CHILD HELP USA was very dear to her, where she was a charter member of International Orphans, Inc.
After her husband and son died, Mrs. Driscoll moved to Raleigh, and Springmoor, where she continued her volunteer work with the Springmoor Health Center Auxiliary and enjoyed singing in the Springmoor Choir.
Mrs. Driscoll is survived by her sister, Beth Miller Ethridge and her husband, William C. Ethridge, nieces and nephews, Oliver Wood McClintock, Jr., Everett Miller McClintock, Mr. and Mrs. William Clivie Boxley, III, Mr. and Mrs. John MacLachlan Boxley, Mrs. Ann S. Ethridge and eleven great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, in the Springmoor Auditorium.
The family will receive friends after the service at Springmoor. Burial will be in Clinton, N.J.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Springmoor Choir, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27615; or to a charity of one's choice.
WILLIE O. DUNN
DURHAM -- Willie Oliver Dun n, 78, of 2407 Lindmont Ave., died on Thursday, January 22, 1998.
Funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday, January27, 198 at Charity Christian Fellowship INC., with Rev. Shawlin Dunn and Rev. Sidney Harris-Eulogist officiating. Burial, Markham Memorial Garden.
Surviving: wife, Mrs. Fannie Mae Dunn of the home, daughters, Dorothy M. Dunn, Betty D. Ruffin, Shawlin Dunn, all of Durham.

MELVIN EDWARD EASON, JR.
ZEBULON -- Melvin Edward Eason, Jr., 72, of Antioch Church Road, died Saturday in the VA Medical Center in Durham. He was born July 6, 1925 in Johnston County to the late Melvin E. and Willie Harris Eason Sr. Mr. Eason was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, was a retired Heavy Equipment operator with Rea Construction Company, and was a member of the Smithfield Moose Lodge.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, withthe Rev. Braxton Creech and the Rev. Leslie Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Eason Family Cemetery.
Surviving: two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy M. and Florence Eason of Zebulon and Eddie & Imogene Eason of Franklinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol & Danny O'Neal of Zebulon and Lynn & Danny Creech of Selma; half-brother, A.V. Eason of Zebulon; sister, Dorothy Williamson of Zebulon; half-sister, Leona Hill of Smithfield; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Carol O'Neal, 12612 NC Highway 96 North, Selma.
ANDREW R. JACKSON
LILLINGTON -- Mr. Andrew R. Jackson, 91, died Sunday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie M. Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a life long Scout Master, holding the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given to an adult. A graduate of North Carolina State College, he worked as a postal employee until his retirement.He was a member of the Lillington Presbyterian Church and also elder Emeritus.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lillington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Goodnight and Rev. Bert Pitchford officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Surviving: one daughter, Ann J. Collins of Lillington; two sons, Andrew R. Jackson, Jr. of Panama City, FL, and James M. Jackson of Lake Gaston; one sister, Margaret J. Mathews of Fayetteville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Family to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
