MORGANTON -- Mavis Matthews Stephenson, 96, formerly of Lenoir Road, Morganton, died Saturday, January 24 at Autumn Care. \
She was born June 1, 1901 in Harnett County, North Carolina.
She was the daughter of the late George W. and Dora McCloud Matthews.
She was a retired grocery store owner in Wilmington, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Stephenson, sons, Howard and Darnell Stephenson, and grandson, Michael Stephenson.
Surviving: daughter, Elender S. Blackburn of Wilmington; daughter, Ann S. Greer of Morganton; sons, Loyd Stephenson of Wilmington, Lynwood Stephenson of Fayetteville, Terry Stephenson of Spartanburg, SC, Phillip Stephenson of Johnson City, TN; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Monday, January 26, 11 a.m. at Kirksey Memorial Chapel in Morganton.
Officiating will be the Rev. Denny Camp and Diana Crawford.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, January 27, 2 p.m. in Harnett County, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Kirksey Funeral Home.

LOUISE S. WOMACK
DURHAM -- Mrs. Louise Smith Womack, resident of 4900 N. Roxboro Rd., Apt. 227, died Sunday morning in Northwood Manor Convalescent Center following declining health.
She was born in Greensboro, the daughter of the late Robert E. and Mamie Brown Smith.
She was the wife of the late Roy Clyde Womack, Sr.
Mrs. Womack had been a resident of Durham for most of her life and was a retired employee of 50 years with Burlington Industries.
She was a member of Northern Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Womack was predeceased by a son, John Womack and his wife, Nellie.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lynda W. Carden and her husband, Joe of Durham; three sons, Roy Womack and his wife, Delaine, Andrew Womack and Ted Womack and his wife, Pat, all of Durham; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Northern Free Will Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Toler.
Burial will follow in Rose of Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Womack, Christopher Womack, Stephen Womack, Lonnie Ellis, J.D. Boothe and Barry Farrell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lynda W. Carden of 4302 Sterling Dr.
Sharon Renee Wilder
Sharon Renee Wilder, 24, of 103 Castill Place, died July 23, 2001, at Wake Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was a 1994 graduate of Garner Senior High School, she attended Wake Technical College and loved working with children through Daycare and Photography.
Funeral services were July 25 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel.
Burial followed in Montlawn Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Audrey Parrish Burtchette and Willie Lee Burtchette.
Surviving: mother, Elaine Burtchette Wilder and her fiance, James Smith of Garner; his sons, Jim Smith of Raleigh and Chris Smith of Wise, Va.; aunt, Vicky B. Davis and her husband, Bobby Davis of Raleigh; uncle, Donald Burtchette and his wife, Shyrl H. Burtchette, of Port Tobacco, Md.; cousins, Melanie Kraft of LaPlata, Md., Kim Tressler of Bullock, and Jennifer Burtchette of Laurel, Md.

Opal Nelson Pegram, 79, of 121 Townview Trail, retired administrative secretary for the Wake County Public Library, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home.
Funeral service was held Aug. 2 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel.
Burial followed in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: daughters, Ida Pegram of Raleigh and Trudi Ranew of Garner; son, Skip Pegram of Durham; grandchildren, Marley and Jordan Ranew, both of Garner and Joey Elliott of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Ruth Walk of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jae Monterosso of Palmetto, Fla.
