ELIZABETH "LIB" R. HOYLE
SMITHFIELD -- Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" R. Hoyle, 80, of 830 Berkshire Rd., died Thursday [July 9, 1998] at Carolina House of Smithfield.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Benson United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Bobby Smith will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Benson City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoyle was born July 6, 1918 in Johnston County to the late Walter O. and Luna Stevens Rackley.
Mrs. Hoyle owned and operated Mrs. W. O. Rackley's Drygoods in Benson.
She was a member of the Benson United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hoyle was a past manager of the Benson Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the Benson Planning Board.
She was a very active member of the Democratic Party, and was named the Democratic Woman of the Year in N.C. for 1984.
Mrs. Hoyle was the chairperson of the Johnson County Board of Elections.
She was appointed to the USS NC Battleship Commission by Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr.
Mrs. Hoyle was a member of the Smithfield Women's Club and was voted as the Club Woman of the Year in 1976.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John "Jay" Lindsay and Deborah "Debbie" Sykes Ferguson, III of White Oak, and a granddaughter, Jaime Lynn Ferguson.
Family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
BEULAH MINOR LILES
KNIGHTDALE -- Beulah Minor Liles, 77, of 530 North Cypress Street, Wendell, died Thursday, July 9, 1998 at Raleigh Community Hospital. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 1998 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Burial, Zebulon Town Cemetery.
Surviving: children, Tim Liles and wife, Delbra of Wendell, Earl Liles of Youngsville, Donald Liles and wife, Sharon of Wendell, Willard Liles and wife, Letty of Knightdale, J.C. Liles of Zebulon, Jackie L. Denton and husband, James of Middlesex, Carolyn L. Vaughan and husband, Doug of Knightdale; sisters, Veola Richards of Creedmoor, Vera Bailey of Zebulon; brother, Carlton Minor of Wake Forest; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Liles was preceded in death by her husband, Clee Liles; her son, Rudolph Liles; her daughters, Helen Myrickand Joyce Mancino; her brother, Alton Minor.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home of Carolyn and Doug Vaughan, 415 Park Avenue, Knightdale, NC 27545.
THEODORA (TEDDY) L. LONG
TYLER, TX -- Services for Theodora (Teddy) L. Long, 70, Tyler, are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12th, at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel, Tyler, with Pastor Dr. David Dykes and Minister of Senior Adults, Daryl Dunks from Green Acres Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery, Tyler.
Mrs. Long died July 10 [1998] in Tyler, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 22, 1927 in Raleigh, N.C.
She was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, officer of John Childs Friendship Class for many years, longtime member of Briarwood Country Club Women's Golf Association, noted for three holes in one during her golf career, member of Gloryland Singers, and she was affiliated with Wachovia Bank, N.C., and vault teller at Heritage Bank, Tyler.
She was the devoted wife of Paul H. Long, Jr., for fifty years, a mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include husband, Paul H. Long, Jr. of Tyler; daughter, Paula Weiss, Tyler, Barbara Ann Bunch, NC; son, Paul H. Long, III and wife Cindy Long, Iowa; and twins, Suzanne Louise Oden and husband, Johnny Russell Oden, Tyler, and Patricia Lynn Youset and husband, Fred Youset, Tyler; eight grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren, and one chihuahua, "Muffin".
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
DR. LUIS F. MAHIQUEZ, SR.
BENSON -- Dr. Luis F. Mahiquez, Sr., 76, of 1078 N. Lincoln Street, died Thursday [July 9, 1998], at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel, Benson.
Father Trent Watts will officiate.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Dr. Mahiquez was born in Cuba, August 19, 1921, to the late Jose F. and Josefa Felico Mahiquez.
He graduated from the University of Havana in Cuba and practiced medicine for 15 years in Cuba.
After moving to America, Dr. Mahiquez practiced general surgery and family medicine in Virginia.
He moved to Benson and opened his practice in 1967 until his retirement in 1987.
Dr. Mahiquez was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include wife, Zobeida Fernandez Mahiquez; sons, Luis F. Mahiquez, Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Jose F. Mahiquez of Benson; daughters, Beidy M. Podgorski of Columbia, TN, Tessy M. Prades of Orlando, Fla., Rosa Maria Mahiquez of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Jose F. Mahiquez of Miami, Orlando Mahiquez, Reinaldo Mahiquez, Neri F. Mahiquez, all of Cuba; and nine grandchildren.
LANA N. MILLER
CARY -- Lana Nicholson Miller, 50, of 108 Lendl Court in Cary, died on Monday, July 6, 1998 at Duke Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held today, at 2 p.m. at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Cary.
The family will receive friends in Luther Chapel at the church following the service.
The family requests that no flowers be sent.

ASHLYNN MACKENZIE PAUL
HAVELOCK -- Ashlynn Mackenzie Paul, 21 months, of Havelock, died Thursday [July 9, 1998] at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, at the First United Methodist Church, Miller Road, Havelock, with the pastor, the Rev'd Eric Lindblade, officiating.
Surviving: parents, Dr. Larry S. and Nancy C. Paul of Havelock; three brothers, Matthew Austin Paul, Allan Scott Paul and Kenan Stuart Paul, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Potter of Beaufort, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Cieszko of Havelock.
Preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Larry S. Paul, Sr.

MARTHA KYLER COLE ENGLAND
APEX -- Martha England, beloved wife, mother and teacher, died at her home in Apex, NC, on October 10, 1999.
Born April 22, 1952 in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late Cary Colgate Cole and Clara Nycum Cole.
Mrs. England attended Durham High School and NC State University, where she met her husband, William A. England.
She later received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Meredith College, and from 1990 through 1998, taught first grade at Farmington Woods Elementary School in Cary, NC.
Prior to her career in elementary education, she was also active in preschool education and Helping Horse, a therapeutic riding experience for children with disabilities.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Kyler Austin England of Boston, MA, and Laura Erin England of Athens, GA; son, Justin Andrew England of Apex; her mother, Clara Cole of Durham; sisters, Stella Kennedy of Oakland, CA, and Linda Exner of Durham; brother, John Cole of Durham and "The Inchworms".
Her cancer support group comprised of many people of all ages and walks of life who have been a great source of comfort and support during her illness.
Visitation with the family will be held at 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 12 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Rd, Cary, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at Meredith College Chapel, 3800 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC.

A.P. ALEXANDER
WEST JEFFERSON -- Mr. A.P. Alexander, Sr., 79, of West Jefferson, passed away Sunday, October 10, 1999 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Wilkes County, he was the son of the late Gideon McCager Alexander and Nora Bauguss Alexander.
He was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a chamber member of Midway Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Hardin Alexander; daughter, Jeanette Key and her family, husband, Eddie and daughter, Ashley of West Jefferson; son, Phil Alexander and his family, wife, Alma and daughter, Lauren and son, Russell of Moorehead City; five sisters, Sybil Johnson, Mrs. Clarence (Cynthia) Elmore, Mrs. T.G. (Mary) Weatherman, all of North Wilkesboro, Barbara Key and Mrs. Bill (Doris) Tharpe, both of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service will be held at Midway Baptist Church in West Jefferson, Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Keith Casey of Midway Baptist Church and Rev. Sherree Jones of Connoak Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 1670 Mt. Jefferson Road, West Jefferson, N.C. 28694.
Interment of ashes will be done in a family service at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
