WADE C. (CHIP) LEWIS, III
Sept. 11, 1947 - Jan. 21, 1999
RALEIGH -- Chip Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade C. Lewis, Jr., died from a massive heart attack, while in Cincinnati, Ohio, on business.
He is survived by his wife, Wylene; his son, Christopher, director of Camp Cheerio in N.C.; and his daughter, Sara, a junior at Indiana University.
Their home is in Elkhart, Indiana, where Chip was employed by Goshen Rubber Company, as Vice-President of Human Resources.
His brother, Dale who has spent most of his adult life in the bush country of Zambia, Africa, is on the staff of N.Y. Zoological Society, serving as a wildlife conservationist.
Chip began the game of golf at age seven, after a bout with Polio.
As the years rolled by, he continued his love of the game making a name for himself in junior golf tournaments played throughout the southeastern states.
He played on Broughton High golf team, and later entered Wake Forest University on a golf scholarship.
While still an amateur, he played in the U.S. Open and followed that by turning professional.
His first job as a pro did little to stimulate his long-term interest in golf, and after a few short years he gave up his professional status and finally regained his amateur standing.
Other survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. Flythe, and their son, Skip, who, on numerous occasions played with Chip when participating in member-guest tournaments at Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, N.C.
Also, Walter F. Lewis of Topsail, N.C., and Walter F. Lewis, Jr. of Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at 3 p.m.

KENNETH DAVIS
NORLINA -- Kenneth Davis, 82, died Tuesday at Maria Parham Hospital.
Mr. Davis was born in Vance County, son of the late Hugh Cheek and Estra Dickerson Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Katie Clark Davis.
Mr. Davis was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Civil Service at Norfolk Naval Base.
As a member of the Warrenton Lions club, he served at various offices and committees.
Also he was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Katie and Harry Hankla of Charlotte, Patricia and Paul Loenig of Pennington, NJ; grandchildren, Kimberly Elyanow of Las Vegas, NV, David Hankla of Lawrenceville, GA, Mark Hankla of Danbury, CT, and Dr. P.T. Koenig, III of Sacramento, CA; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Marie Hankla of Lawrenceville, GA; sisters, Sue D. Felts of Warrenton, Kate D. Puryear of Fayetteville; brother, Clarence Davis of Warrenton.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 1999 at Norlina United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Warren Dale Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home, Warrenton.
LOSSIE L. DAVIS
CLAYTON -- Lossie Lee Davis, 76, of 82 Country Lane, died Tuesday, 1/26 [January 26, 1999].
Services 11 a.m. Thursday at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Davis Family Cemetery, Middlesex.
She survived by sons, Dallas Davis of Middlesex, Larry Davis of Sims, Ernest Davis of Clayton; daughters, Linda Jordan, Sue Ross, Ann Jones and Sandra Sanders, all of Clayton; sister, Dorothy Creech of Benson; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-children, Glenn Davis of Middlesex, Blanche Johnson of Selma, Gerald Davis of Virginia.
Family will receive friends 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
ROBERT "BOBBY" EDWARDS, JR.
YOUNGSVILLE -- Robert "Bobby" Edwards, Jr., 66, of 1695 Moore's Pond Road, died Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
He was born in Wake County, and was the son of the late Robert and Alma Perry Edwards.
He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class and served on the Building and Grounds Committee.
At the young age of 14, when his father died suddenly, he became a farmer and helped his mother raise his younger brother and his sisters. He was an employee of Westinghouse Meter Corp./ABB and retired with 36 years of service.
He loved nature and the outdoors.
His main hobby was gardening and watching things grow.
He was very compassionate toward those in need, often extending a helping hand and sharing vegetables from his garden.
He believed that whatever one possesses becomes a double value when it is shared with others.
He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and was a "special papa".
May his memory teach us how to live, laugh, forgive and love.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, January 28, 1999 at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 12 years, Lucy Underwood Edwards; sister, Nancy Wilson of Raleigh; stepchildren, Michael Underwood and Debbie Williams, both of Rolesville, Ronnie Hart and Linda Myers of Middlesex; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Wilder Hart Edwards; sisters, Annie Ruth Alford, Angeline Pearce, Doris Hight and Eva Mae Upchurch and by his brother, Charles "Doodle" Edwards.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2124 Oak Grove Church Road, Youngsville, NC 27596.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
MARGARET D. FAWCETT
PITTSBORO -- Margaret D. Fawcett, 89, died Saturday, January 23, 1999 at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh.
She was born in Lansdowne, PA, and resided in Delaware County, PA, for most of her life.
After many years of bookkeeping for a mushroom packing plant in PA, she retired to Pearce, AZ.
She then moved to Pittsboro, NC, where she lived with her niece.
Ms. Fawcett is survived by her sister, Martha Bohn of Pearce, AZ; nieces, Amanda Erikson of Denmark and Mary Hammond of Pittsboro; nephew, James N. Granade of Flagstaff, AZ.
A memorial service is to be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh.
CAPITOLA Q. GALLOWAY
TIMMONSVILLE, SC -- Capitola Q. Galloway, 79, died Jan. 25, 1999.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999 at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist Church of Timmonsville.
Interment will be in Byrd Cemetery directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Alice Keith of Wake Forest, N.C.
ELIZABETH DILL GIBBS
ZEBULON -- Elizabeth Dill Gibbs, 88, of Zebulon, formerly of Swan Quarter and Wendell, died Jan. 22, 1999 at Guardian Care.
A native of Hyde County, she was born on Nov. 2, 1910, the daughter of the late Edgar and Bessie Mann Gibbs.
She was a graduate of East Carolina College and taught many years in Johnston County (Corinth Holders) and Alexandria, VA schools.
Surviving a nice, Joan Simpson Turner of Atlanta; great nephew, Eric Maynard of Fuquay and great-niece, Andrea Maynard of Seattle, WA.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Katie Mann Gibbs Simpson and Ella Dill Gibbs Murrow.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 1999 at St. George's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lake Landing Historical District in Hyde County with Reverend Stephen T. Dunstan officiating.

FRANCIS JOSEPH GRACE
RALEIGH -- Francis J. Grace, 88, of 101 Kingston Rd., Knightdale, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Grace; a daughter, Lisa Grace of Cary; a son, Raymond Grace of Raleigh; a brother, Fred Grace of Allegany, NY; two sisters, Helen Sonday of Wilkes Barre, PA, and Edith Chopko of Fairless Hills, PA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 28, at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

MARY P. GREEN
RALEIGH -- Mary P. Green, 71, of Raleigh, died Sunday, January 24, 1999.
Mrs. Green retired from the Wake County School System.
She taught at Wake Forest Rolesville High School.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur T. Green.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Mrs. Green is survived by her son, Michael A. Green of Raleigh; daughter, Deborah A. Sikes and her husband, Craig Sikes of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Jessica Williford of Angier and Melanie Sikes of Willow Spring.

VICK C. HODGE
KENLY -- Vick C. Hodge, 73, son of the late John Bennett and Lillie Bertha Bunn Hodge, died Monday.
He was a member of Stancil's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as treasurer for 25 years, and was a charter member of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday in Stancil's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Naydelle Whitley Hodge; sons, Larry C. Hodge and wife, Judy of Kenly, J. Linwood Hodge and his fiancee Beverly Durham of Kenly; sister, Jean H. Yancey of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Judy Carol Hodge and Larry Vick Hodge.
