EARL BROOME

MORGANTON -- Earl Broome, 78, died Oct. 10, 1999. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II and he was a graduate of Wingate Junior College and of Appalachian State Teachers College. During his career as an educator, he taught and coached in the school systems of Gastonia, Newton-Conover, Lynchburg, VA, Marion, Morganton and Burke County. At Morganton High School, he was athletic director and head football coach and was named the 1961 Western N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A Coach of the Year. During his football coaching career in Morganton, he serviced as head coach of the Lions Bowl in Forest City, and of the East/West Allstar Game in Greensboro. He was also the girl's basketball coach at Morganton, and won two W.N.C.H.S.A.A. championships during his tenure. In 1974 he was named Educator of the Year for the Burke County Schools.
Surviving are his wife, Genevieve Trott Broome of the home; son, David E. Broome, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Raleigh; daughter, Susan Broome Lumpkin and her husband, Elvin of Morganton; sister, Virginia Broome Allison of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Jessica Hope Broome, Hannah Marie Broome, Kevin Matthew Lumpkin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 at Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial of the ashes will be 3 p.m. in Eastview Cemetery, Newton, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home and other times at the Broome residence, 214 Fox St.
Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Burke County, P.O. Box 1029, Valdese, NC 28690.

JOHN LLOYD COREY, JR.

STOKES -- Mr. John Lloyd Corey, Jr., 72, retired farmer, died Monday, October 11, 1999 at his home.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Janelle Whitehurst Corey, to whom he was married in 1947; two sons, John L. Corey, III and wife Donna, Mike W. Corey and wife Alicia all of Greenville; one daughter, Linda Corey Woodard and husband Mike of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, John Paul, Chad, Beau, Alec and Mary Katherine Corey all of Greenville and Corey Michelle and Brad Woodard both of Raleigh; one great-grandchild, Caroline Corey of Greenville; two brothers, Allen G. Corey and Loyall B. Corey both of Robersonville, and two sisters, Sylvia Corey of Greenville and Lessie C. Johnson of Stokes.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

ROGER IRVING CULLIPHER

MERRY HILL -- Mr. Roger Irving Cullipher, 92, of 137 Mount Gould Road, died Monday, October 11, 1999. He was a native of Bertie County and a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and honorary deacon. He was the son of the late James B. and Mary Frances Britt Cullipher and the husband of the late Thenia Hobbs Cullipher. After high school, Mr. Cullipher attended NC State University and then taught agriculture to the returning veterans after World War II. He was the founder and Curator of the Mount Gould Museum.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 1999 in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain.
Survivors include: son, Fred Cullipher, Snow Hill; sisters, Mary Louis Holder, Merry Hill, Edith C. Aldridge, Merry Hill; three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Riverside Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1206 NC 45 North, Merry Hill, NC 27957.
Walker Funeral Home, Windsor is in charge of arrangements.

CARL DAVIS FULLER

RALEIGH -- Carl Davis Fuller, 69, of 6609 Old Stage Road, died Monday, October 11, 1999 at Integrated HealthCare Services. Mr. Fuller was a bus driver for 26 years with Carolina Trailways. Mr. Fuller was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service chapel, Knightdale. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: sons, Dale Fuller and his wife, Kelly of Raleigh, Jeff Fuller and his wife, Diane of Grapevine, TX; grandchildren, Lydia Fuller, Rachel Fuller, Carla Fuller, Melissa Dobbins; special cousin, Vickie Perry Daniels of Knightdale; numerous cousins.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home, 6609 Old Stage Road, Raleigh, NC 27603.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 100 N. Peartree Lane, Raleigh, NC 27610.

DELPHIA W. FUTRELL

MURFREESBORO -- Delphia Wall Futrell, 86, of the 100 block of Dogwood Drive, died October 10, 1999, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mrs. Futrell was born in Northampton County and was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church. She was retired as merchandising clerk for Wynn Brothers Department Store and the Fashion Center after many years service. She was the widow of Walter Raleigh Futrell.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Gravley of Oxford, NC; a grandson, Jeff Gravley and his wife Mary of Apex, NC; a granddaughter, Angie Gravley of Fayetteville, NC; a great-granddaughter, Megan Gravley of Apex, NC; a sister, Lona Simmons of Woodland, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 1999, in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Davis Smith and Rev. Bob Deacon. The family will receive friends at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to Murfreesboro Baptist Church, 200 West Main Street, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements.

ROBERT H. JAYNES
NOV. 12, 1933 - OCT. 9, 1999

GARNER -- Robert Howard "Bob" Jaynes, 65, of 7621 Trudy Lane, a retired employee of IBM, died Saturday [October 9, 1999].
Surviving: wife, Vicki M. Jaynes; daughters, Cassandra Anne "Sandy" Watkins of Willow Spring and Gabrielle J. Schultz of Wake Forest; son, Robert Scott Jaynes of Copperas Cove, TX; mother, Evelyn J. Ellingson of Melbourne, FL; 12 grandchildren.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, 7-9 p.m. today.
Contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 1101 Vandora Springs Road, Garner, NC 27529.

CRAMA STRICKLAND KEMP

MIDDLESEX -- Crama Strickland Kemp, 86, of Middlesex, died Sunday, October 10, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny V. Kemp and a son, Johnnie Ken Kemp. She is survived by a brother, Bert Strickland of Van Nuys, CA; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 1999 at Lee's Chapel Baptist Church. Entombment in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday night at Family Funeral Care, 1201 N. Arendell Ave., Zebulon, NC. Phone (919) 269-9377.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lee's Chapel Baptist Church, 14551 Taylors Mill Road, Middlesex, NC 27557.

GIDEON W. KING

WARRENTON -- Gideon Wesley King, 90, of Route 1 Box 102 E, Warrenton (Oakville Community), died Monday [October 11, 1999] at Maria Parham Hospital.
Mr. King was a Warren County native born October 22, 1908 to the late John Wesley King and Lula Bidden Ellis King.
Mr. King was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, the Warrenton Lion's Club, the Forestry Association, the Cattleman's Association and member of the Halifax Rural Electrification Board of Director's for 30 years.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Stephen Edwards.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mamie Ruth Long King of the home; two daughters, Eleandor Ruth King Woods of Graham, Ann Louise King See of Littleton; sister, Louise King Williams of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Catherine Ann Cliborne, Caroline Bradford Fleming and Michael Gideon Wood, all of Raleigh.
Pallbearers will be Earl Stegall, Scott Gardner, Al Thompson, Richard Hunter, John Falcon and Jack Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Warrenton Lion's Club.
The family will receive friends at Blaylock Funeral Home on Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m.

REBECCA ANN H. McINTYRE

KINSTON -- Rebecca Ann Harper McIntyre, 60, of 824 Albrittons Rd., died Monday, October 11, 1999.
She was a member of Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church.
Graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston with Rev. Archie Ratliff officiating.
Surviving: husband, Daniel McIntyre; mother, Adelle Davenport Verrill of Kinston; father, Oscar Harper of Kinston; daughter, Beverly M. Klefeker and husband, Greg of Raleigh; son, Gary McIntyre and wife, Kim of Kinston; sister, Edna H. Elmore of Kinston; grandchildren, Courtney McIntyre and Danielle McIntyre, both of Kinston, Sydney R. Klefeker of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Howard-Carter & Stroud Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
Howard-Carter & Stroud Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

GARNER -- Anna Marie Frey Owens, 71, of 1001 Southerlund Road, died Monday [October 11, 1999].
Surviving: husband, William D. Owens; daughters, Anne Saladino, Mary Turner, Kathryn Chase, Margaret Nolfo, Ethel Owens, Barbara Dolce and Cindy Yauger; sons, Bill Owens, Michael Owens, Christopher Owens and John Owens; sister, Theresa Rock; brothers, Joe Frey, Wally Frey, and John Frey; 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, 7-9 p.m. today with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.
