DURHAM -- Ms. Deaneen Antwan "Dee Dee" Nunn, 35, was born November 8, 1961, to Mr. Harold and Lula Umstead Nunn in New York City. She departed this life Sunday morning, June 14, 1997.
She leaves to mourn her; a loving mother and father, Mr. Harold and Lula Umstead Nunn; one paternal grandmother, Ms. Inez Nunn of Durham; three daughters, Miss Latoya Nunn, Miss Kadijia Nunn, Miss Imani Nunn, all of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Jeaneen Nunn-Thomas, Ms. Veronica Lloyd both of Durham; three brothers, Harold Nunn, Jr., Vincent Thompson, Isham Thompson, all of Durham; one brother-in-law, Mr. Albert Thomas; devoted companion, Thomas C. Jones of Durham; three nephews and three nieces all of Durham; 13 aunts and 13 uncles; one great-grand aunt; three great-grand uncles; one great-great-grand-aunt.
JESSIE M. SUTTON
LA GRANGE -- Mrs. Jessie Medlin Sutton, 63, of 110 Circle Drive, died Thursday at her residence. She was a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work and was a retired Social Worker with Caswell Center. She was a member of La Grange United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Lee Carr Sutton, Jr.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Carr Sutton, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Chuck Jenkins of Greenville; son and fiance', Timmy Sutton and Wanda Worrell of La Grange; sisters, and M. Sasser of La Grange, Bobbie Stephenson of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary LaRossa of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Billie Barnett of Durham; brother, Dan Medlin of Sandy Bottom; grandchildren, Dana Jenkins, Sherry Turner, Michelle Sutton, Donald Lee Sutton and James Barrow, Jr.; grandchild, Michael Lee Sutton.

Th family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Rouse Funeral Home and other times they will be at the home.
RAY WHITLEY
DURHAM -- Ray Whitley, 66, Pleasant Drive, died Thursday, June 19, in Durham Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Mr. Whitley was a native of Nash Co., and had lived in Durham, most of his life. He was employed for over 40 years at Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company prior to retiring. He was a member of the Samaria Baptist Church in Nash County, and was an avid race fan and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Letha Mae Cone Whitley; three daughters, Phyllis Hicks and Cathy Oakley both of Durham, and Shari Rae Meier of Burlington; mother and stepfather, Lacy Whitley and Clarence Moss of Durham; three brothers, Rev. C.W. Moss of High Point, Stanley Moss and Clay Moss both of Durham; sister, Betty Lou Scruggs of Brevard; six grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. C.W. Moss will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 416 Pleasant Drive.
WILLIE K. BLAYLOCK
GARNER -- Willie K. Blaylock, Sr., of 1201 Bobbitt Dr., died Thursday.
Funeral service 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lea Funeral Home, Raleigh. Burial, Wake Baptist Grove Church Cemetery.
IN REFLECTION
Mr. Willie Kimble Blaylock, Sr., son of the late Berry and Lillian Blaylock and husband of the late Cassie M. Blaylock was born February 16, 1919 in Wake County, North Carolina. On June 5, 1997, God sent his Angel to bring into his loving care, our father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend. Known to those who loved and knew him as "Uncle Willie" and "K.B.", his journey through life has been a reflection of his love and commitment to his family, always concerned about their well-being until his very last minute here on Earth, serving as a solid and strong foundation for his children, grandchildren and friends. He was a World War II Veteran.
He leaves to cherish and share his precious memories: two daughters, Mrs. Torchy B. Bumpers of Durham, Mrs. Juanita B. Roberts of the home; two sons, Mr. Willie K. Blaylock, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Raleigh, Mr. Johnny C. Blaylock and his wife, Uvone of Raleigh; 12 grandchildren, Pamela B. Jones, Joyce B. Harris, Lorrie A. Bumpers, George W. Malloy, III, Solomon S. Malloy, Dawn U. Malloy and Ramona Y. Malloy, both of Durham, Johnny Maurice Blaylock and wife, Angela, Berry Kimble Blaylock and Aaliyah Blaylock of Raleigh, Gloria Bunch and Willie Bunch, Jr. of Camden, NJ; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Bertha L. Winters of Raleigh; aunts, Susie and Catherine Page of New Yorkand New Jersey; uncles, Lindsey and Lawrence Page, both of New Jersey; sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl T. Atwaters of Raleigh; brothers-in-law, Mr. Joseph Atwaters of Raleigh, Mr. Jack Turner of Henderson; five "special nephews", Mr. William L. Winters of Garner, Mr. Willie M. ELIZABETH C. CODINGTON
WILMINGTON -- Mrs. Elizabeth Carter Codington, of 624 Forest Hills Dr., died Friday, June 6, 1997 at her residence.
She was born in Pinehurst, NC, on February 24, 1930, daughter of the late Hugh William and Elizabeth Cheatham Carter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Senator John B. Codington, MD.
Mrs. Codington was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Junior League, and she was an avid gardener.
Surviving are her three children, Elizabeth Reid of Wilmington, John B. Codington, Jr. of Wilmington, and Anne Harr of Abingdon, Va.; five grandchildren, Christopher Reid and Benjamin Reid of Wilmington, Owen Codington and Elizabeth Codington of Wilmington, and Alexis Autrey of Abingdon, Va.; one brother, Hugh William Carter, Jr. of Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997 in First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Douglas Vaughan and Rev. Keith Thompson.
Inurnment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

CARY -- James S. "Rome" Haley, 61, of Cary, died Monday [June 9, 1997].
Mr. Haley retired from the U.S. Navy, as a Chief Hull Maintenance Technician.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Raleigh.
Burial will follow in the Warren-Haley Family Cemetery in Umstead State Park.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Christine Smith Harper, 85, died Sunday [June 8, 1997].

ROBERT J. HARRIS, SR.
RALEIGH -- Robert Jackson Harris, Sr., 64, died Monday [June 9, 1997] at his residence.
He was a retired truck driver with the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bright Funeral Home Chapel in Wake Forest.
Burial will follow in the Raleigh Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Magdalene S. Harris; daughters, Carolyn Ann Pettigrew, Kathy Darlene Harris Kirkwood and Robin Elaine Harris, all of Louisburg; son, Robert J. Harris, Jr. of Louisburg; six grandchildren.

ERSKINE X. HEATHERLEY, SR.
Beverly Hills, Fla. -- Erskine X. Heatherley, Sr., 88, of Beverly Hills, Florida, went to be with the Lord on June 8, 1997.
He was born February 23, 1909 in Cooleemee, North Carolina.
He is the son of the late Robert and Alice Heatherley. He graduated from Cooleemee High School, attended Wake Forest College and served in the U.S. Navy. He was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1935. He was a pastor, evangelist and author. He pastored churches in North Carolina, and Florida, four of which he founded.
He was preceded in death by a son, Hollis N. Heatherley and three brothers, Robert Heatherley, Paul Heatherley and John Ripley Heatherley.
Heis survived by his wife, Hettie Langston Heatherley; three daughters, Sue Woody of Oklahoma City, OK, Celeste Morgan of Chicago, IL, Grace Lawrence of Indialantic, Fla.; sons, Erskine X. Heatherley, Jr. of Pittsboro, NC, Francis W. Heatherley of Austin, Texas; sisters, Ruth Heatherley Everett of Raleigh, N.C., Rose and Helen Heatherley of Asheville, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by South Brevard Funeral Home in Melbourne, Fla. and Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, 2849 Middlebrook Drive, Clemmons, N.C.
Visitation will be at the Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel on Wednesday, June 11 from 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Mocksville, N.C., on Thursday, June 12 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The officiating ministers will be Jimmy Lancaster, Dallas Langston, Noel Hendrix and Jeffery Mitchell.
