RALEIGH -- Mr. Charles Milton Highsmith, of 721 Bunche Drive, Raleigh, a former employee of WRAL-TV 5, died Friday, June 6, 1997.
Funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Street Baptist Church.
Burial to follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: wife, Mrs. Geneva R. Highsmith; sisters, Mrs. Annie Man Wooten of Washington, Mrs. Novella Delaney of Richmond, VA., Ms. Beulah Baker of Plymouth, Ms. Mamie Terrell of Milwaukee, WI; brothers, Frank Baker and Julius C. Baker, both of Milwaukee, WI; a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

AILEEN LEWIS
RALEIGH -- Aileen Hatton Carpenter Lewis, 90, of Capital Towers, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at Columbia Raleigh Community Hospital following a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Chester A. Lewis and the late Maynard L. Carpenter.
She moved Raleigh, from Ocala, FL, in 1994.
Mrs. Lewis was active and outgoing her entire life and especially loved music, gardening and travel.
She continued to develop new interests throughout her life, beginning her college studies in her early 80's.
She also became a Master Gardener during that time.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughter, Ann Carpenter Holbrook of Raleigh; twin sons, Dr. A. Alden Carpenter of Hingham, MA, Richard H. Carpenter of Alexandria, VA.
She was also the mother of the late Shepard Carpenter.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was an inspiration to all her family and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Saturday, June 28, 1997, at 4 p.m.
The Fellowship is located at 3313 Wade Ave., in Raleigh.
Her experience as a Master Gardner was a very special time in her life.
The family requests any donation in her memory be made to Marion County Master Gardners, in care of Suzanne Suffitt, 2232 NE Jacksonville Rd., Ocala, FL 34470.

ETHEL A. MILLER
CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. -- Ethel Argenbright Miller, 85, formerly of Port Republic, Va., retired primary school teacher, died Sunday night [June 9, 1997].
She is survived by one son, Thomas Price Miller of Tarboro, NC; one daughter, Sarah M. Walter of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service to be conducted at noon Wednesday in the Port Republic Cemetery at Port Republic.
RUTH B. PERRY
HENDERSON -- Mrs. Ruth Baker Perry, 76, of 309 Burwell Ave., died Monday, June 9, 1997 in Duke Medical Center in Durham.
A Vance County native, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Bennett and Pattie Elizabeth Day Baker and was the widow of the Benjamin Franklin Perry.
She was employed for thirty-six years in the vital records office of the Vance County Health Department.
Mrs. Perry was a member of West End Baptist Church and the Loyalty Sunday School class.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. John E. Hedgepeth and the Rev. Robert L. Yates.
Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Morrison of Stamford, CT, Nadine Perry of Wilmington, NC, and Elissa Yount of Henderson; one son, Frank Perry of Tulsa, Ok; three brothers, Charles Baker of Cincinnati, OH, Bennie M. Baker of Portsmouth, VA, and Furman Baker of Hampton, Va.; one sister, Kathleen B. Shearin of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Anna, Rose, Edward, Elizabeth, Laura, Ben and Tomme.
The family will receive friends at the home on 309 Burwell Ave.

EDNA MAY PHILLIPS
WENDELL -- Edna May Phillips, 97, died Monday, June 9, 1997 at Rose Terrace Rest Home in Wendell.
Mrs. Phillips lived many years on North Main Street, with her brother and sister-in-law, the late Blanche and Jake May.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Burial, Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Johnston County.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by a niece, June May Fowler and her husband, Stephen and their children, Jackie F. Smith, Stephanie F. Evans, Debbie F. Riddle, Faith F. Spencer.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997 prior to the service.

FANNIE-BELL B. PIKE
CARY -- Fannie-Bell Bray Pike, 83, and a charter resident of Glenaire Retirement Community of Cary, died on June 8, 1997.
A native of Wake County, Mrs. Pike was the daughter of the late John B. and Mamie DeCormis Bray.
She was a graduate of Broughton High School, Hardbarger's Business College, and Saint Mary's College.
She and her late husband, Braxton L. Pike, resided in Reidsville, NC, for many years and were members of the First Baptist Church there.
Surviving are her sister, Kathleen Bray Creech and her husband; and two nieces, Frances Creech Wells and Mary Kay Creech, all of Raleigh.
On Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at 11 a.m., a memorial service will beheld at Glenaire Retirement Community Auditorium, 200 W. Cornwall Road, Cary, NC 27511.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
A private family burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

ARDANA ROBERTSON
BUTNER -- Mrs. Ardana Robertson, daughter of the late Jack and Ida Downey Robertson was born on Jan. 3, 1918 in Franklin Co.
She departed this life on June 6, 1997 at Carver Living Center.
She received her education in the Franklin Co. Public Schools.
At an early age, she joined and was baptized at Lewis Chapel Baptist Church.
In recent years, she frequently visited Tally Ho Baptist Church.
She had a deep love for her family and was devoted to all members of the Robertson, Crews, Poole and Tapp families.
She leaves to mourn, love and cherish her memory: sister, Alice Tapp of Oxford; brothers, Albert Robertson of Stem, Mrs. Johnnie Robertson of Butner; devoted niece, Geneva Poole with whom she made her home.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ellis D. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel with Rev. Moses Fletcher, Pastor Tally Ho Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Glennview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of Geneva Poole at 103 24th St., Butner, NC.
EVELYN W. ROBINSON
BREVARD -- Evelyn Wilson Robinson, 87, of 42-A See Off Road, died Friday, June 6, 1997 in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Wake County.
She had resided in Delaware for 30 years prior to moving to Brevard, in 1988.
She was a daughter of the late Harold Desmond Wilson, Sr. and Frances Lane Perry Wilson.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years, the Rev. Cledus Jackson "Jack" Robinson of the home; daughters, Becky Wolf of Daphne, Alabama, Deborah Ritsema of Raleigh, Jacklyn Robinson Hudak of Greentown, Pennsylvania, Carol Robinson of Bristol, England; sister, Margaret Klekas of Wilmington; brother, Harold D. Wilson, Jr. of Cary; seven grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.

ASHEBORO -- Raymond Lee Smith, 65, of 4440 River Estates Dr., died Monday, June 9, 1997 at his home.

ALLEN "PIG" TAYLOR
DURHAM -- Archie "Pig" Taylor, of 3212 Fayetteville Street, died Sunday, June 8, 1997 in Durham Regional Hospital.
He was a native of Durham, and the son of the late Archie and Mary Louise Mitchell Taylor.
He was educated in the Durham City School and was a 1949 graduate of Hillside High School.
He was a retired employee of the City of Durham Recreation Department.
He had also worked at P&W Grill for many years.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel by Rev. Dr. David H. Bell.
Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery.
Surviving is a brother, Archie Taylor, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
