LILA W. VINSON
MURFREESBORO -- Lila Warren Vinson, 94, of Route 1, died June 8, 1997 in Autumn Care Nursing Home, Rich Square.
Mrs. Vinson was a native of Murfreesboro, a life-long member of Meherrin Baptist Church and the widow of Jesse Walter Vinson.
Surviving include a daughter, Peggy V. Francis and her husband, John of Murfreesboro; sons, Walter O. Vinson and his wife, Pat of Newport News, VA., Calvin C. Vinson and his wife, Linda of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Melinda Hodges of Titusville, FL, Travis Crockett and Dawn Vinson, both of Newport News, VA., Christopher Vinson of Conway, Ralph Cherry of Jackson, Tadeus Vinson and Jeff Francis, both of Murfreesboro, Jessica Francis of Lusby, MD; eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Meherrin Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Sellers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family at Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the home of Peggy and John Francis.
Memorial donations may be made to the Meherrin Baptist Church Building Fund. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements.
NICHOLAS B. JEFFREYS
RALEIGH -- Mr. Nicholas Barham Jeffreys, 88, passed away Monday [June 9, 1997] at Raleigh Community Hospital.
Mr. Jeffreys was born in Clayton, but lived the last 40 years in Raleigh. He was the former owner and operator of Hayes Barton Laundry and Dry Cleaners for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and a member of Raleigh Golf Association for 45 years. Mr. Jeffreys was a member of the Horne Memorial Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Clayton.
Surviving: wife, Leona Jeffreys; son, Nicholas Battle Jeffreys; daughter-in-law, Linda Jeffreys; grandson, Nicholas B. Jeffreys, Jr.; granddaughters, Edith Jeffreys and Jennifer Jeffreys-Chen; stepsons, Thomas, Harold, and Steve Burnett; five step-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Horne Memorial Methodist Church in Clayton.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Horne Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.
ALAN G. OCILKA

CARY -- Alan G. Ocilka of Cary, passed on June 7, 1997.
He was the beloved husband of Diane Martina Ocilka for 33 years, and the devoted father of his son, Christopher Alan Ocilka.
Born in Endwell, NY, on October 25, 1942, Alan was a graduate of U-E High School, Alfred State College and attended Kent State University.
For several years, Alan and his family lived in Fredonia, NY.
Most of his spare time was spent with his family and friends as a Cub Scouts den leader, a Little League coach and an active member of the Newman Center of SUNY at Fredonia.
Alan was active in the Dunkirk-Fredonia Lion's Club and served as president from 1985-1986.
His occupation as a construction cost estimator brought his family to North Carolina, in 1986.
In addition to being a licensed North Carolina commercial real estate broker, he also served as a real estate broker in both North Carolina, and New York.
Alan most recently owned and operated Ocilka Appraisal Services.
He was a member of many professional Appraisal and Cost Estimators organizations.
Alan loved life and fought a courageous battle against cancer. .
He was aware of and thankful for the strength and comfort he received from the prayers and many acts of kindness from family and friends, as well as the extraordinary care and compassion of Dr. Mark Yoffee, Dr. Richard Chiulli, Dr. Richard Allen, Denice Davis, R.N., the staff of Rex Hospital and Rex Homecare staff.
In addition to his wife and son, Alan is survived by his mother-in-law, Matilda Martina of Fredonia, NY, and Jensen Beach, Fla.; his sisters-and brothers-in-law and several nephews and nieces including: John S. Fote and Louise Martina Fote; their sons Todd and Scott, Louis and Sandra Martina; their children, Louis, III and Jacqueline, all of Jensen Beach, Fla., Scott Halisky and Suzanne Martina Halisky and their children, Adam and Anna of Largo, Fla.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Ocilka of Endwell, NY, and his father-in-law, Louis P. Martina of Fredonia, NY.
Alan was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Cary.
The family will receive friends at St. Michael's Church on Wednesday, June 11 from 7-9 p.m.
Father Art Kerwin will celebrate a memorial Mass honoring Alan's life at St. Michael's on Thursday, June 12, at 1 p.m.

JOHN "JOHNNY" ADCOCK, JR.
RALEIGH -- Mr. John Garland Adcock, Jr., "Johnny," born April 13, 1929, departed this life at Wake Medical Center on Sunday, June 8, 1997. His one and only favorite brother, Charles "Plink" Adcock, Sr., passed on March 1, 1997.
Survivors: daughter, Gilda Adcock of Norfolk, VA, stepdaughter, Huerta LaVerne of Oxon Hill, MD, sister, Mona Lisa Adcock Aultman of Germany; niece, Alicia Adcock of Raleigh; nephew, Charles Adcock, Jr.; niece, Charlicia Adcock, nephew, Charles Adcock, III, all of New York City, niece, Starlyn Abrams of Raleigh; cousin, Thomas Adcock of Clayton; aunt, Ethel Adcock Young of New York City; aunt, Lucille Leonard of Garner; aunts, Lennel Hartsfield and Esther Morgan, both of Raleigh.

DURHAM -- Arthur James Ashley, 72, of 911 Alma Street, died Monday, January 9, in Duke Medical Center.
Surviving are one son, Raymond Ashley of McConnellsburg, PA; one daughter, Della Joy Ashley of Durham; one stepson, Douglas Stephenson of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

MELVIN C. BOYD
REIDSVILLE -- Melvin Calep Boyd, 75, of 1131 McCoy Road, Reidsville, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Griffin officiating.
Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery with military graveside rites.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of the late John L. and Cora Shropshire Boyd and had lived in Reidsville, his entire life.
A retired employee of Cone Mills Edna Plant, he was a member of American Legion Post #79, Midway-Monroeton V.F.W. Post #8297, a World War II Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Jack Boyd, Luther E. Boyd, and Julius M. Boyd.
Surviving: wife, Anne Stokes Boyd of the home; three sons, Melvin Eugene Boyd and wife, Debra S. Boyd of Raleigh, Elwood Donald Boyd of Carrboro, Kenneth Stokes Boyd of Greensboro; two brothers, John E. Boyd and Lewis W. Boyd, both of Reidsville; two sisters, Emily B. Lloyd of Blackstone, Va., Jessie B. Barber of Reidsville; three grandchildren.
The family will see friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
MILDRED S. DODSON
DURHAM -- Mrs. Mildred Sorrell Dodson, 85, of 8 Mayapple Place, widow of Howard William Dodson, died Monday night in Duke Medical Center.
Mrs. Dodson was a native and lifelong resident of Durham.
She was a graduate of Bethesda High School.
She was also a graduate of the Watts School of Nursing, class of 1935.
Mrs. Dodson was a member of Watts Street Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Tillman Bible Class.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, 11 a.m. in Watts Street Baptist Church.
Officiating will be the Rev. T. Mel Williams.
Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Annex B, Section 16.
Surviving are a son, Dr. W. Edwin Dodson of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Jane E. Dodson of Durham; grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Dodson Csuti of New York, NY, William Edwin Dodson, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; Jason David Dodson of St. Louis, MO., Stephen Gage Dodson and Matthew Sorrell Dodson, both of Vail, CO; brother, Garland Sorrell of Durham; two sisters, Doris Bledsoe of Hillsborough and Margaret Medlin of Durham.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Hash; son and daughter-in-law, T.R. and Susan Hash; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Ann and Brian Stegall; parents, James H. and Julie Hollandsworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis E. and Mary Frances Hollandsworth, R.M. and Betty Hollandsworth; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 1997 at Oakey's North Chapel with Rev. Walter L. Wood officiating.
Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery.
