KAY FLETCHER RICKARDS
MEDFORD, VA -- This is Kay Fletcher Rickards, Margie and Fred Fletcher 56-year-old daughter, who died Saturday evening in her home in Medford, New Jersey.
Friends in Medford said this was her best picture of all those shown at the funeral home during a visit by neighbors, Lockheed-Martin Associates and church friends.
This is one of the happiest pictures we could find, we want you to enjoy it too. Sorry, says her daddy we are not going to tell you where she caught them. She chose cremation and her ashes will be scattered where she caught the fish.
Now, here's a bit more of paid space to relate the services she rendered during her short 56 years.
In Celebration of Kay Fletcher Rickards
Kay Rickards lived a purposeful life, and filled each day with 24 hours of Spirit-filled enthusiasm for righting what is wrong in our world.
What Kay did, she did with gusto and a full measure of commitment. A lifelong fan of NC basketball and Philadelphia Eagles football, Kay demonstrated the values of loyalty as she stood by her teams through good and bad. Her support for those teams, in many ways, spoke of her outlook on how she supported her friends, family anything she believed in: if you make a commitment, you stand by it through thick and thin.
An ordinary lists mundane facts such as where a person attended school, where they worked, and who their family is. Certainly, Kay's very personality was molded in great measure by those things: can anyone imagine Kay Rickards without some Tarheel reference? And her pride in her vocation, her love and support for her family were omnipresent. But vital statistics don't even begin to describe Kay Rickards. No description of her is possible without the word MISSION.
"Missions is central to my life," she told the pastor recently. All who knew her have recognized, and admired her more, for that fact for years. Kay was at the forefront of our church's support for Trevor's Campaign for the Homeless," and every month, through winter snows and summer heat, would lead a group of volunteers to fed the homeless in Philadelphia. When Faith Church launched "The House that Faith Built" to rehab a home for the homeless in Camden, Kay was the first volunteer. Although the rest of the team built that house every Saturday morning, Dick and Kay Rickards would sneak back two or three days during the week-every week-to work alone to help complete it. When the house was finished, and everyone else went home, Kay and Dick did more. Much more. They worked on three more such houses in Camden, then helped run the "Clothes from the Heart Thrift Shop" for the next two years.
When Faith Church launched its first overseas mission trip to Romania, Kay was there. When Howard Bayne asked Faith Church to help Jean Webster feed the homeless of Atlantic City, Kay was there.
But she always gave more than just a helping hand. She gave her all. As chair of the Mission Involvement Committee, a board member of International Children's Aid Foundation and the Friends of Jean Webster, as a driving force as a church elder and in countless voluntary positions, Kay served with distinction. She served the poor, the homeless, the needy - but most of all she served the Lord and she did so with gladness and joy.
Kay Rickard's life was a testimony. A living sermon that in the finite amount of time we spend on earth, one person can make a difference. We rejoice at having had the opportunity to share in the caring lifetime of Kay Fletcher Rickards, and pray that the lessons she taught us will inspire our own lives with such Christ-centered action.
