GUY THOMAS WARD
WINSTON-SALEM -- Mr. Guy Thomas Ward, 90, formerly of 2740 Pilgrim Court, Winston-Salem, N.C., died at Salemtowne Retirement Community on Tuesday, June 10, 1997.
He was born in Atlanta, GA on April 9, 1907, to Guy T. Ward, Sr. and Mae Bridger Ward.
He had served as Administrator of the Winston-Salem ABC System for 28 years.
Mr. Ward attended Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, GA, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi Commercial Fraternity.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Winston-Salem Host Lions Club since 1942, serving as Secretary for 31 years, and also a Melvin Jones Fellow.
He was one of the original founders of Camp Dogwood for the Blind.
He was chairman of the Recreation Committee of Winston-Salem of 13 years, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Forsyth Country Club, and a life member of Winston-Salem Jaycees.
Mr. Ward was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Shahan Ward in 1972, and a son, Guy T. Ward, III in 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Dunham Ward of Winston-Salem; five stepchildren, Wallace E. Dunham of Myrtle Beach; Nancy D. McAden of New Bern; Phyllis D. Brown of Columbia, S.C.; Dennis R. Dunham of Myrtle Beach; Margaret D. Whittle of Georgetown, S.C.; a niece, Mrs. Robin S. Tabor of Statesville; and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. James D. Turner of Knoxville, TN; Mrs. Oliver J. Tobin of Long Beach, CA; Mrs. Erwin G. Kirton of Dayton Beach, FL.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 1997 at Vogler and Sons - Reynolda Chapel by Rev. Ed Ritter.
Private graveside service will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, The Winston-Salem Post Lions Club (for Camp Dogwood), or to any charity of the donor's choice.
MARGARET M. ULBERG
RALEIGH -- Margaret Ulberg, 76, of Raleigh, died Thursday, June 12, 1997.
She was born September 7, 1920 in Antigo, Wisconsin, the daughter of Paul and Sarah (Gumetz) Jaeger.
She was educated in the public school system of Madison, Wisconsin, with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Wisconsin.
After receiving her degree, she taught high school Home Economics.
During World War II, she moved to New York to work as a chemist.
Upon returning to Madison, she married Lester Ulberg and devoted the rest of her life to the welfare of her family, church and community.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years and daughter, Karen, both of Raleigh.
Also surviving is a sister, Evelyn Bonner of Sun City, Az.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 15, 1997 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

CHARLES E. BENZE
RALEIGH -- Charles E. Benze, 69, died Thursday, June 12, 1997 at home attended by his family.
Born in New Brunswick, N.J., on April 8, 1928.
He is survived by his wife, Jean and sons, Craig of Los Angles, Ca., and Keith of Raleigh.
Witness to the Resurrection service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh on Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m.
The family will receive visitors at the church following the service.

WADE WOODROW DAUGHTRY
FAISON -- Wade Woodrow Daughtry, 85, of 586 Wade Daughtry Road, died in University Hospital in Charlotte, Thursday, June 12, 1997.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Faison Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Joseph Fontana officiating.
Burial will be in the Faison Cemetery.
He was a native of Sampson County, the widower of Ruth Lewis Daughtry, and the son of the late Solomon Eugene and Mary Honeycutt Daughtry.
He was a retired farmer and member of Faison Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Doris Parker of Charlotte, Christine Beasley of Dunn and Elizabeth Hatch of Cary; two sons, Mitchell Daughtry of Raleigh and Charles Daughtry of Greensboro; two brothers, Joseph Daughtry of Durham, and Mack Daughtry of Faison; two sisters, Mary Lou Hairr of Clinton and Elizabeth Smith of Dudley; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening, Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Clinton and at other times at the home.

MARY L. "CHEE"' DAVIS
LOS ANGELES -- Mary Laura "Chee" Davis died at the John Wayne Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday, June 12, 1997.
Chee Davis was the wife of Jack Yopp of Los Angeles (formerly of Jacksonville, N.C.), who survives.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Laura Vaughan Davis of Nashville, N.C., and a brother, Tom Davis of New York.
A native of Nashville, she was a partner in the firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, LLP.
Chee was a graduate of Saint Mary's Junior College, Hunter College, and received her law degree at Emory University.
She was Law Clerk to Judge John R. Brown, Chief Judge to the Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, before joining, Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher in 1978.
During her life, she retained her love of the theater, dancing and the arts.
Early in her career, Chee performed on stage in New York.
Memorial services are to be held in Los Angeles, on Saturday.
VIRGINIA B. GUPTON
WINSTON-SALEM -- Virginia Baker Gupton, 78, died Friday morning, June 13, 1997, in Winston-Salem.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wood Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Butch Caner and Al Sherbert.
Burial will follow in the Gupton family cemetery.
Mrs. Gupton was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood H. Gupton, in September 1996.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy G. Griffin and husband, Scott of Winston-Salem; son, Harris B. Gupton and wife, Samie of Tobaccoville; sisters, Dorothy Holloman of Harrellsville, Vivian Meadows of Roanoke Rapids, Agnes Mizelle of Harrellsville; brothers, Mavin Baker of Harrellsville, George W. Baker of Hubbard, Tx.; grandchildren, Tommy H. Gupton and wife, Denise, Denise Bowles and husband, Brian, David B. Gupton, Jason Griffin, Amber Griffin; great-granddaughter, Ashley Gupton; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren, all of the Winston-Salem area.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7-9 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home.

RALEIGH -- Bernice Royal Hargrove, 63, of 802 Vardamam St., died Saturday, June 7, 1997.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today, Chappell's Funeral Home, Garner.

GENEVA FOGLEMAN KECK
BURLINGTON -- Mrs. Geneva Fogleman Keck, 86, of 2436 S. Church St., Burlington, died Friday, June 13 [1997] at 11:48 a.m. at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 3 months illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George M. Keck, and the daughter of George Albert Fogleman and Frances Ellen Moser Fogleman, both deceased.
She was a life-long member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and the Women's Bible Sunday School Class.
During WWII, she was a First Aid Trainer for the Red Cross.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Jennie) Hallsey of Raleigh; son, Mr. George Arnold Keck of Burlington; sister, Mrs. Dorothy Fogleman Keenan of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Gina Hallsey and Lisa Marie Hallsey.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Macedonia Lutheran Church, by The Rev. John C. Earp, Pastor of Macedonia Lutheran Church and Rev. Dr. Clyde J. Christmas, Executive Director of Twin Lakes Center.
Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and other times at the residence.

JOHN H. MORGAN
LILLINGTON -- Mr. John H. Morgan, 41, died Wednesday [June 11, 1997] in an automobile accident in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was a native of Harnett County and a resident of Suwanne, Georgia.
He was a foreman in residential home construction in Georgia.
Graveside service will be conducted 4:30 p.m. Monday at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington, by the Rev. Rick Hanse and Bishop H.B. Seymour.
Surviving: wife, Angela Wood Morgan; daughters, Lauren Elizabeth Morgan and Meredith Olivia Morgan, both of the home; son, John Harrison Morgan, Jr. of the home; father and stepmother, Judge Robert B. and Linda Morgan of Rt. 1, Lillington; mother, Patricia Hoover of Columbia, SC; brother, Robert B. Morgan, Jr. of Irmo, SC; stepsisters, Michelle Morgan and Robin Marks, both of Lillington; maternal grandmother, Hilda Hoover of Columbia, SC.
Family to receive friends 3:15-4:15 p.m. Monday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.
