WILSON -- J.A. Groce, 75, died Saturday, June 14, 1997.
He was born April 1, 1922.
Graveside service, Monday, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Dr. Larry Issacs officiating.
Surviving: wife, Irene Christl Groce; daughter, Linda Walls of Wilson; sons, Dennis Groce of Raleigh; sisters, Leva Gallman of High Point, Jackie Medlin of Hickory, Inez Lee, Thelma Quinn, Pat Jones and Trudy Alewine, all of Spatinburg, S.C.; brother, Bill Groce of Welford, S.C.; five grandchildren.
Visitation, Sunday from 7-9 p.m., at Joyner's Funeral Home and at other times, at 1106 Sunnybrook Road.

PAUL S. HEINSKE
GARNER -- Paul Scott Heinske, 48, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at home, after courageously battling a long-time illness.
Graveside services were conducted by Father Charles Mulholland on June 5th at the National Cemetery in Raleigh.
Born January 10, 1949 in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Calvin and Clare Heinske, Scott graduated from White Pine High School (Michigan) in 1967.
He later served in the United States Army in Vietnam, and was awarded both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service.
Scott spent the greater parts of his life, honing his professional musical skills.
Throughout his life, Scott's great loves were his family, music and his animals.
Survivors include: parents, Calvin and Clare Heinske of Clayton; sisters, Barbara Mouchahoir of Garner, Anita Trecartin of Raleigh; brothers, David Heinske of Garner, Patrick Heinske of Fuquay-Varina; nieces and friends.
MALCOLM F. "MACKIE" McDONALD
DURHAM -- Malcolm F. "Mackie" McDonald, of Beta Circle Drive, died Tuesday, June 10, at Duke Hospital in Durham, following a year-long battle with cancer.
Born in Greenville, Ky., he was raised in Memphis, Tenn., and was a 1945 graduate of Central High School.
At age 17, he joined the Merchant Marine and served his country in both the Atlantic and Pacific.
After service, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
In 1949, he joined his family dairy business, Coldwater Ice and Cheese Co., in Coldwater, Miss., and Collierville, Tenn.
He moved to Western North Carolina, in 1960, when he became Vice-President of Manufacturing at W.C. Hennessee Lumber Company.
While in this position, he engineered and managed the building of two mills at the Addie Plant, the second project being the largest improvement in the company's history.
The business was sold to Hammermill Hardwoods in 1980, where he worked until retiring in 1986.
Upon retirement, Mackie enjoyed fishing at the Santee-Cooper Lakes in South Carolina, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He also taught himself to use a home computer, and enjoyed the intricacies of computer investing.
During his years in Sylva, Mackie was active in many church and community activities.
For twenty years, he was a Red Cross Volunteer, helping to manage Blood-Mobile operations in the Sylva area.
He was a member of the Harris Regional Hospital Board for 15 years, and served as vice-chairman.
During this time, he chaired the committees to construct Mountain Trace Nursing Home and the Don Morgan wing of the hospital.
He was a member of the Sylva First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dortha Hennessee McDonald; daughter, Donna "Sis" Williams of Raleigh; two sons, Malcolm "Mac" McDonald and his wife, Jeanne of Blytheville, Ark., and C.A. McDonald and his wife, Janey of Franklin, Va.; brother, William "Witty" McDonald and his wife, Barbara of Germantown, Tenn.; step-brother, Mark Annis and his wife, Martha of Memphis.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Rebekah, Catherine, Emily, Malcolm, Donna and Josiah of Blytheville and Katie, Laura and Joseph of Franklin.
A funeral service will be held at 2 on Friday, June 13, at the Sylva First Baptist Church. ,
Burial will follow in the Keener Cemetery.
The family received friends at the Moody Funeral Home on Thursday, June 12.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to the "Together We Grow" program of the Sylva First Baptist Church.
CHARLIE McGEE
RALEIGH -- Charlie McGee, 83, of 4105 Southall Road died Saturday, June 14, 1997.
Mr. McGee was born in Johnston County, and was involved in the wholesale produce business all his life and spent the last years, until retirement, as co-owner of Ennis and McGee Produce Co.
Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 1997 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, Knightdale.
Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
Surviving: wife, Bessie McLamb McGee; son, Joseph Edward "Joe" McGee and his wife Linda McGee of Raleigh; grandson, Michael McGee and his wife Helen McGee; granddaughter, Lee Anne McGee; great-grandchildren, Charlie McGee and Zachary McGee; sisters, Letha McGee Patterson of Knightdale, Matilda McGee Williams of Benson.

JOHN H. MORGAN
LILLINGTON -- Mr. John H. Morgan, 41, died Wednesday [June 11, 2002] in an automobile accident in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was a native of Harnett County, and a resident of Suwanne, Georgia.
He was a foreman in residential home construction in Georgia.
Graveside service will be conducted 4:30 p.m. Monday, at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington, by the Rev. Rick Hanse and Bishop H.B. Seymour.
Surviving: wife, Angela Wood Morgan; daughters, Lauren Elizabeth Morgan and Meredith Olivia Morgan, both of the home; son, John Harrison Morgan, Jr. of the home; father and stepmother, Judge Robert B. and Linda Morgan of Rt. 1, Lillington; mother, Patricia Hoover of Columbia, SC; sister, Suzanne Morgan Wilkins of Lexington, S.C.; brother, Robert B. Morgan Jr. of Irmo, SC; stepsisters, Michelle Morgan and Robin Marks, both of Lillington; maternal grandmother, Hilda Hoover of Columbia, SC.

FRANKLIN BOYD MYERS
RALEIGH -- Franklin Boyd Meyers died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Rex Hospital.
Mr. Meyers was born in Moore County, on July 8, 1927, to the late Oscar F. and Bettie Jane Myers.
A retired mechanical engineer, he graduated from North Carolina State University in 1951.
Surviving: wife, JoAnne Woodley Myers; daughters, Sibyl Jane Myers of Pittsburg, Pa., and Alline Frances Myers of Gaithersburg, Md.; son, Franklin Boyd Myers and wife, Susan of Kingsbort, Tn.; sisters, Mary Jane Overby of Reidsville; brother, James Richard Myers of Pinehurst; sister-in-law, Cathy Woodley; brother-in-law, Howard Moore; niece, Terri O. Elliott; nephews, Mark Overby and wife, Debbie, and Robert Overby; two great-nephews.
Visitation will be at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Monday 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service at St. Paul's Christian Church conducted by Reverend Thomas L. Law on Tuesday 10 a.m.

RUDOLPH B. "RUDY" PHILLIPS
CARY -- Rudolph B. "Rudy" Phillips, 78, of Cary, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at his home after a short illness.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 1997, at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
Surviving are: wife, Helen W. Phillips of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Judson and Natalie Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia; and brother, William Dixon Phillips of Henderson, Nevada.

MARYLEE HAMILTON RYALS
KNIGHTDALE -- Marylee Hamilton Ryals, 52, of 111 Dianne Street, died Saturday afternoon, June 14, 1997, in her home.
Born July 22, 1944 in Harnett County, Marylee worked for 27 years with Dillon Supply Co., and one year with G.&.W Equipment Co., and served as their parts sales manager.
Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 1997, Green Pines Baptist Church Hodge Road, Knightdale.
Burial, Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Chalybeate Springs, Harnett County.
Surviving: husband, Clarence Vernon Ryals, Sr.; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" McLean of Southern Pines; mother, Vernie Seate Hamilton of Chalybeate Springs, Harnett County; stepdaughter, Betty Harp of Creedmoor, Rhonda Hailey of Knightdale; stepson, Clarence Vernon Ryals, Jr. of Coats; sister, Nancy H. Nye of Chapel Hill; brothers, Newton Hamilton, Jimmy Hamilton, both of Fuquay-Varina; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
