BETTIE B. ANDERSON

SMITHFIELD -- Bettie Braswell Anderson, 89, of Waddell Drive, in Smithfield, died Monday [June 16, 1997].
Born in Johnston County, on October 21, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Andrew M. and Julia Worley Braswell.
Her husband was the late Thel Anderson.
Funeral service will be held 8 p.m., in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home, in Selma.
A committal service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, in Oakland Heights Cemetery, in Smithfield.
Rev. Steve Morris and Rev. Rod Carpenter will officiate.
Surviving are: son, Keith Anderson and Charles Anderson, both of Smithfield, Melvin Anderson of Goldsboro; brother, Cleveland Braswell of Princeton; sister, Leona Thompson of Smithfield; grandchildren, Beverly Gore, Kim Bonk, Charles Anderson, II, and Michelle Anderson; great-grandchildren, Phillip Anderson, Brad Anderson, Ashley Gore, Tyler Gore and Elizabeth Bonk.
The family will receive friends at 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

ROY F. BYRD

BENSON -- Mr. Roy Franklin Byrd, 37, died Monday [June 16, 1997].
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel.
Burial will follow in Dixon Family Cemetery.
Survivors include, sister and brother-in-law, Vickie B. and Mitchell Pope of Benson; nephews, Casey Pope and Jared Pope.
Family will be at Rose and Graham Funeral Home, Benson, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and at other times, at the home of Vickie and Mitchell Pope, 1482 Byrdtown Rd., Benson.

MABEL A. CARRINO

RALEIGH -- Mabel A. Carrino, 86, of Raleigh, died Sunday [June 15, 1997].
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Surviving are: sons, James Joseph Carrino of Raleigh, Gerald J. Carrino of Barrington, IL; brother, William F. Butler, Sr. of Douglaston, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday 7-9 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m., at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Angel Abbey, Benedictine Monks, St. Benedict, Oregon, 97373-0506.

NELLIE RUTH CASPER

RALEIGH -- Nellie Ruth Jones Casper, 76, of 4510 Duraleigh Road, died Sunday [June 15, 1997].
She was a retired dietitian with Dorothea Dix Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street.
Burial in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are her son, Ronald Taylor Casper of Raleigh; brothers, Harry Lee Jones of Raleigh, and Donald Jones of Clayton; sisters, Eva Adell Honeycutt, Ada Kittle and Shirley Carroll, all of Clayton, and Irene Coggins of Riverside, CA; grandchildren, Jaime Leigh Casper and Ronald Taylor Casper, Jr., both of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday.

PEARL COOK CLIFTON

WAKE FOREST -- Pearl Cook Clifton, 83, of 2609 Bond St., Raleigh, and formerly of Wake Forest, died Monday [June 16, 1997], at Wake Medical Center.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, at the Clifton Family Cemetery.
Surviving are husband, Jack Clifton, sister-in-law, Beulah Wall of Wake Forest.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today, at Bright Funeral Home, and at the home of Beulah Wall, 2612 Doris Lane, at other times.

BETTY L. CREECH

DURHAM -- Mrs. Betty Lou Creech, 70, died Sunday, June 15, 1997, following many months of declining health.
Mrs. Creech was a life-long Durham resident and daughter of the late Alvin Edward Couch and Viola Mae Smith Couch.
She retired from the Durham Women's Clinic in 1988.
Mrs. Creech was a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Lawrence Edward Creech; two daughters, Pam C. Bridges and grandson, Steven Bridges of Durham and Patti C. Bazen and husband, Robert of Durham; two sisters, Patsy C. Sneed of Kalispell, MT, and Billye C. Blalock of Kinston; two brothers, Alvin "Doodle" Couch of Durham, and Roger Couch of Cary; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m., in Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham.
Rev. Randy Willis and Rev. Ralph Holloway officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Bobby Perry, Brian Couch, Larry Ricks, Neal Clayton Leis Ham and Buck Utley.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Durham County Sheriff's Department.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m., at Clements Funeral Home, in Durham.

NETTIE K. CURRIE

DURHAM -- Mrs. Nettie Keith Currie, 81, a resident of Maryland, died Monday, June 16, 1997.
Mrs. Currie, a former resident of Durham, was the beloved wife of the late Owen D. Currie, and dear mother of her children, Kenneth D. Currie, Sr., George D. Currie, Alene Marie Lugone, Judith A. Johnson and Brenda F. Swope.
Also surviving are her brother, George Keith; sisters, Lillie Mae Ross and Ina King; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m., in Fellowship Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m., at Clements Funeral Home, in Durham.

SHAWN TIMOTHY CURRIGAN

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH -- Shawn Timothy Currigan, 39, a native of Denver, CO, died Monday morning [June 16, 1997], at his home in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., of complications from a progressive brain tumor.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Harvin Currigan of Henderson; two daughters, Louisa and Madison Currigan.
Mr. Currigan, the son of Mr. James T. Currigan and the late Mrs. Irene M. Currigan
He is also survived by his brothers, Mark, Kevin and Casey Currigan, all of Denver, CO; a sister, Paula Schwan of Texas.
Mr. Currigan retired after 18 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was awarded the James S. Gracie Award while assigned as Officer-in-Charge of Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team, Port Angelos, WA.
His illustrious career included the Meritorious Service Medal, two Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, CG Sea Service Ribbon, with two Bronze Stars and others.
Part of the Gracey award read, "Chief Petty Officer Currigan also sought and supported advanced education for this people, resulting in 25 percent receiving promotions in the past year.
His outstanding leadership, innovative coordination skills and for his genuine concern for those he leads, exemplifies Coast Guard Professionalism at its best."
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 1997, in Oleander Memorial Gardens, with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018.

NANCY Q. DAVIS

RALEIGH -- Nancy Quin Davis, 59, of Quinwood, Lake Carey, and Raleigh, died Friday, June 13 [1997], at Lake Carey.
Born January 18, 1938, in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Ruth Wicks Quin.
She was a faithful wife and friend to her husband.
Their love and faith raised five children and two grandchildren.
She filled her home with love and laughter.
Her enthusiastic presence was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.
She graduated Wyoming Seminary in 1955, graduated Dickinson College, and earned her Master's Degree in Education, with honors from the University of Pennsylvania.
She was the president of the Glen Summit Water Company, Mountaintop.
She dedicated her life to the Lord.
She was a board member of the Lake Cary Union Chapel.
She attended the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church.
She taught Sunday School at the Good Shepard and St. Michael's Episcopal churches in Raleigh.
She enjoyed her Bible study and gained comfort and support from Bible Study Fellowship and from her involvement in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She enjoyed volunteering for the Junior League and the Boy's Club of Raleigh and her involvement in the Lake Carey Historical Society.
She was a master swimmer, finishing second in two strokes, in the 1972 National Masters.
She was an avid tennis player and went to the regional Amateur National in Tennis in 1995.
Surviving is her husband of 33 years, Dr. James Davis; sons, Tad of Deerfield, Ma., Jon, Charles, and Jim all of Raleigh; daughter, Elizabeth Tidball of Raleigh; two grandsons, Quin Davis and John Tidball.
Interment is in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock, Pa.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, 1997 at 1 p.m. from St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Raleigh.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 6639 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27612.

STEPHEN R. DENSON

DURHAM -- Stephen Ralph Denson, 41, of 2009 Ward St., died Sunday afternoon [June 15, 1997], at his home after an extended illness.
Stephen had lived in Durham all of his life.
Surviving are his parents, Ralph A. and Betty Pearce Denson of the home; his caregiver, Marie Brown and several aunts and uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Howerton and Bryan Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be the Rev. Ed Denton.
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Section 16.
Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to Triangle Hospice or Lakewood Baptist Church.
The family will receive visitors at Howerton and Bryan Funeral Home, Tuesday night from 7-9.
