DR. EDWARD LAUGHTIN EATMAN
ROCKY MOUNT -- Dr. Edward Laughtin Eatman, 90, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997.
He was born Jan. 13, 1907, in Wilson, son of the late Charles Hackney Harris Eatman and Goldie Daniel Eatman.
He was married to the late Mary Long Battle Eatman.
A 1926 graduate of Wilson High School, Dr. Eatman attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, in 1933, with a D.D.S. Degree.
He was a member of both the Georgia and North Carolina State Dental Boards.
Along with his brother, Dr. Charles D. Eatman, and H.E. Winston, he organized an Army Reserve chapter in Rocky Mount, in 1934.
He was a First Lieutenant in the Army Reserve, seeing active duty in 1942.
He was separated from the reserve with the rank of captain in 1944.
Dr. Eatman began his dental practice in Rocky Mount, in 1933, along with his brother, Dr. Charles D. Eatman.
He had served as secretary and president of the Rocky Mount Dental Society, and was a member, former secretary and former president of the 5th District Dental Society, where he had chaired most committees.
Dr. Eatman and his brother organized the dental department at Park View Hospital, and they served as co-chiefs of dental services at the hospital for 30 years.
He retired in 1983, following 50 years of dental practice with his brother.
Dr. Eatman was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, a life-member of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, the Elks Club in Rocky Mount, the Rocky Mount Jaycees and Exalted Roosters.
He was a member of Benvenue Country Club.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Tuberculosis committee until Rocky Mount Tuberculosis Association was formed.
He had been an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd since, 1933.
Dr. Eatman was honored by being named Honorary Curator of the Country Doctor Museum in Bailey.
He had also been honored by local, district, state, and National Dental Societies.
Surviving: sons, Edward L. Eatman, Jr. of Charlotte, George H. Eatman of Washington, D.C., Gordon B. Eatman of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Nell B. Edwards of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Dr. Charles D. Eatman of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 9 a.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, with Rev. Bollin M. Millner, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Ave.
Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Building Fund, Rocky Mount.
ULLMON GINN
SNOW HILL -- Mr. Ullmon Ginn, 69, of Route 4, died Wednesday morning [June 18, 1997], at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Ginn was native of Greene County, and a retired Tobacco Farmer.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Della M. Ginn; daughter, Renea G. Welch of New Bern; son, Ullmon L. Ginn of Snow Hill; sister, Geraldine Mewborn of Snow Hill; three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home and other times, at the home.
CARRIE MAE SHIPMAN GREEN
DURHAM -- Mrs. Carrie Mae Shipman Green, 81, of 2920 Chapel Hill Street, Apt. 24-C, died Monday, June 16, [1997], in Durham Regional Hospital.
She was a native of Durham, and the daughter of the late John W. and Harriet Amanda Carver Shipman.
She was educated in the Durham Public Schools and the New York City schools.
She was a graduate of Textile High School.
She attended DeShazor's Beauty College and was a licensed Cosmetologist in New York.
She also attended Gray's Beauty Academy in New York.
In 1965, she opened her own salon, LAJONS Beautyrama.
She was active in her community and Jackson Memorial Church.
She was a co-leader of Cub Scout Troop #138.
Upon returning to Durham, she joined Greater Joy Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, in Greater Joy Baptist Church, by Rev. James Daniel.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, in Beechwood Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Viviane Bright-Walker; sons, Zachary Green of Greensboro, N.C. and Charles Green of Long Beach, N.Y.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; devoted son-in-law, Leonard Walker; daughters-in-law, Pauline Green of Greensboro, N.C. and Maureen Green of Long Beach, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, in Greater Joy Baptist Church, 717 Hardee Street.

EVELYN J. HARRISON
WILLIAMSTON -- Evelyn Jennings Harrison, 88, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 1997, at the First United Methodist Church.
Burial, Woodlawn Cemetery.
She was the daughter of the late Lovett and Hattie Harrell Harrison.
She lived in Durham, from 1928-1996, upon moving to Williamston.
She was a librarian at the Women's College at Duke University.
She was the oldest member of First United Methodist Church and a founding member.
She was a graduate of Louisburg College and Duke University and obtained a Library of Science Degree from the University of Illinois.
She was a member the Altrussa Club, the Durham Woman's Club and on the Board of Trustees at Louisburg College.
Surviving: sister-in-law, Margaret E. Harrison of Williamston; niece, Ann H. McKeel of Williamston; nephew, William L. Harrison of Winchester, VA; eight great-nieces and nephews; eight great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, at Biggs Funeral Home.

KRISTEN W. JOHNSON
BAHAMA -- Kristen Wayne Johnson, 10-week old daughter of Keith Wayne and Lisa Herndon Johnson of P.O. Box 463, Bahama, died Wednesday, June 18, [1997], in Duke Medical Center.
Kristen was born on April 6, 1997, in the Duke Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, William Shane Johnson.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandparents, William and Cynthia Johnson of Durham, and Joy and Ricky Herron of Bahama; maternal grandparents, Paul and Becky Herndon of Durham; paternal great-grandparents, Wayne and Eloise Ross of Durham, and Frank and Mary Johnson of Durham; maternal great-grandmother, Violet Colclough of Durham; uncles, Dennis and Justin Johnson of Durham; and her aunts, Wendy and Paula Herndon of Durham.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m., in the Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Hudson Funeral Home tonight from 7-9 p.m., and at other times, at the home of Paul and Becky Herndon, 2220 Glover Rd., Lot #1.

BUD LAWS, JR.
DURHAM -- Bud Laws, Jr., 38, of 2813 S. Roxboro Street, died Monday, June 16, [1997] in Duke University Medical Center.
He was a native of Durham, and the son of Bud and Grace Burnett Laws.
He was educated in the Durham City Schools.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, in Fisher Funeral Chapel by Rev. Dennis Davis.
Burial will be in Glennview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his parents, Bud and Grace Burnett Laws; sister, Geraldine Laws Carrington; brothers, James Laws and Melvin Laws, both of Charlotte, N.C., Clyde Laws, Joe Edward Laws, Robert Laws; sisters-in-law, Mageline Laws and Mary Laws, both of Charlotte, and Tressie Laws; brother-in-law, Clifton Carrington.

CATHERINE E. MILENIUS
DURHAM -- Mrs. Catherine Couch Milenius, 87, of 3007 Pickett Rd., widow of George S. Milenius, died Wednesday [June 18, 1997] in Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
She was the daughter of the late John William Thomas and Mary Ida Neal Coach.
A native of Orange County she was educated in UNC Greensboro, formerly Woman's College.
She was employed as a counselor with the Employment Security Commission in Winston-Salem for 30 years, retiring in the early 1980's. Mrs. Milenius was a member of McMannen United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Retired State Employees Association.
Surviving: one sister, Lucille B. Bowers of Raleigh, and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by four brothers, Eulis, Vance, Autry and Cecil Couch and two sisters, Ruth C. Hinton and Irma C. Rogers.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 4 p.m., in McMannen United Methodist Church.
Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Redmond.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to McMannen United Methodist Church.

GENEVA D. PARTIN
ROUGEMONT -- Mrs. Geneva Dare Williams Partin, 67, died unexpectedly Wednesday [June 18, 1997], at her home in Rougemont.
Mrs. Partin was born in Durham County, the daughter of the late Charlie Williams and Minnie Weaver Williams.
She had worked previously for Durham Hosiery, but was most recently, self-employed as a home cleaning specialist.
Surviving are her husband, Vernon Jacob Partin; daughter, Emily P. Martin of Orange, Co.; son, Vernon Gregory Partin of Durham; three sisters, Becky Mishoe and Nancy Thornton, both of Virginia and Mary Reaves of Durham; four brothers, David Williams of Oklahoma, Richard Williams of Virginia, Sam Williams of Durham and Wayne Williams of Mississippi; and one grandchild.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m., in Cements Funeral Chapel in Durham, Rev. David Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Cliff Dunnigen, Kevin Williams, Frank Bailey, William Mishoe and Carl Wines.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Price is survived by: husband, Wallace A. Price; daughter, Kelly M. Price of the home; stepson, Scott Price of Raleigh; parents, Mary Etta and Roland Vann of Selma; sister, Linda V. Lassiter of Selma.
