Wylatta Gilliam Allen
Wylatta Gilliam Allen, 93, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at WakeMed Cary. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Mrs. Allen was a native of Apex. She was born Aug. 17, 1913, the daughter of Chapin and Norma (Campbell) Gilliam. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Secretary of TEL Class Senior Adult. Mrs. Allen was also a member of the Golden Age Club in Apex
She is survived by her sons: Malcolm S. Allen Jr. and wife, Dorothy of Roy, Utah, Jonathan C. Allen and wife, Carolyn, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm Sharpe Allen, and her sister Delores Celestia Williams; and brothers, Liggett Gilliam, Myers Gilliam, and Nevin Bennett Gilliam Sr. The family will receive friends at Apex Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Funeral services will be held noon Wednesday, June 13, at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St. (N.C. 55), Apex. Burial will be in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Apex.
Rita Burnham Higgins
Rita Burnham Higgins of Cary, died on Monday, June 11, 2007, a few weeks after celebrating her 85th birthday with family and friends. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was the daughter of Capt. John Higgins and Lucille Higgins Kwietkowski. Her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth McCarthy Sheehan, was a cousin of John England, the first Catholic Bishop of Georgia and the Carolinas.
A graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names High School in Tampa, Fla., Dr. Higgins went on to obtain her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California, and her master's and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University in New York. She taught graduate courses at Columbia University, later becoming an instructor in health and physical education at Queens College on Long Island, where she directed the women’s intramural program, coached both the Girls Softball and Basketball teams, and sponsored the cheerleaders. Dr. Higgins was a published author and editor in several professional magazines and the National Chairman of the women’s soccer rules committee. She was also a nationally ranked women’s basketball referee, and often called upon to officiate games.
While a 30-year resident of Lansale, Pa., she enjoyed participation in various associations and organizations which included serving on the board of the Sweet Adelines women’s singing group, and library chairman for the local branch of the American Association of University Women. During her retirement years in Florida she served as president of the Tampa Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She relocated to the Triangle area in 1993 where she enjoyed her full retirement.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Leidy of Bluffton, S.C., daughters LuAnn Leidy, M.D., of Raleigh, and Beth Cross of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a brother, Dr. William Higgins of Vandalia, Ohio; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 15, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary.

Norma Jacobson McDonald
Norma Jacobson McDonald, 84, of Raleigh, NC, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2007 after an ongoing battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Predeceased by her husband Orville Charles (“Mac”) McDonald and brother Herbert Barney Jacobson, she is survived by her sister Marie Carlson, her son Bradley McDonald, her daughter Dawn Silsbee and her husband Michael and her daughter Colleen Williams and her husband Steven, grandchildren Kathryn and Kiersten McDonald, Tiffany and Allison Silsbee, and Jonathan and Lauren Williams.
Born in Graylake, Illinois, she graduated from Warren Township High School in 1941 and married her husband, “Mac” in 1943. They lived in Grayslake, Ill., Bradley, Ill., Meridian, Miss., Binghamton, NY and finally settled in Raleigh in 1970. She was employed at North Carolina State University where she held several positions the last of which was Housing Administrator. It was in the Housing Department that she was the recipient of the 1985 Distinguished Performance Award (now called “The Awards for Excellence”) which, at that time, was awarded to one person for the entire University. She retired in 1989 to take care of her grandchildren with her husband.
Norma was beloved by her family, friends, co-workers, and by everyone else whose lives she touched. She was an exemplary mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed by us all.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S. E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
The family will receive friends from 7–9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at the funeral home.

Karin Prokop Boosman Staudacher
Karin Prokop Boosman Staudacher, 51, passed away the morning of Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at her home in Apex, with loved ones by her side.
Karin was a native of San Diego. She graduated from San Diego State University, after which she was recruited to open and manage a flagship store for B. Dalton's Software Etc. chain. She left her career to raise her children at home, including a number of years spent home schooling. Later in life, she returned to the work force as a document control manager for the pharmaceutical industry, running departments for Cardinal Health / Magellan, Sicel Technologies, and later for Rho, where she worked at the time of her death.
Karin is remembered as a loving mother who was devoted to her children; as a kind and faithful wife; and as a constant and supportive sister, daughter, and friend. Karin loved books and worked many years in bookstores, as well as studying library science in school. She was a movie fan and her knowledge of films was extensive, especially when it came to soundtracks.
She was active in the earliest days of computer communities, starting in San Diego in the early 1980s. Karin loved animals and brought together two of her passions when she was the first person to adopt a dog (her Siberian Husky 'Shasta') over the Internet from Hearts United for Animals. Karin thought of her animals as part of her family, and we know she would be delighted to see them mentioned here, especially her cat 'Daffodil' and her newest beloved addition, a Basset Hound named 'Ellie Mae.'
Karin is survived by her husband David Staudacher; her children Duncan Boosman, Cameron Boosman and Kelsey Boosman, and stepson Christopher Staudacher, all of Apex; her mother Ann Prokop of San Diego; and her sisters Kathy Prokop and Kristi Gorney, also of San Diego.
A celebration of life service will be held 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Bass Lake Park & Retreat Center in Holly Springs. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Ronald Lee Cook
Ronald Lee Cook, 55, of 279 Wood Rd, Pittsboro died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. Cook was born on May 30, 1952 in Buckhannon W.V. to Ernest and Arlene Thompson Cook.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Cook; his children Brittany Cook of Baltimore, Phillip Barbour and wife Chrissy of Holden Beach, and Chris Barbour and wife Amber of Princeton; his grandchildren Logan Rogers, Katelyn and Alexis Barbour; his brothers Steven Cook of Elkins, W.V., and Roland Cook and wife Brenda of Angier; his niece Heather D. Cook of Warrenton, Va. and his nephew Steven Cook II of Amissville, Va. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles and many cousins.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. (Hwy 55), Apex. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Apex Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.

Carmen Anthony Errato
Carmen Anthony Errato, 20, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 29, 2007.
Errato was a rising Junior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he was majoring in journalism. Already an accomplished writer, he had one of his poems published in the book Riding with Miss Lindsey and most recently was the ACC football sportswriter on www.cofobulletin.com.
The YMCA also played a major role in Anthony’s life, starting as a camper at 5 years old. He continued throughout high school, eventually becoming a camp counselor with a passion for Outreach children. While there, he made a huge impact on the campers and staff, role modeling servant leadership and always leading the way with his enthusiasm and silliness. Anthony also loved music and sports. He was a self-taught bass player and would debate any sports topic, especially when concerning his beloved Maryland Terrapins or New York Giants.
Anthony will always be remembered for his hard work and determination, as evident in his favorite Scripture verse: Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”
Anthony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carmen Anthony “Poppie” Errato and Golden “Nonnie” Errato.
He is survived by his mother Kimberly Errato of Cary; his father Ronald Errato and his wife Patricia Errato also of Cary; his brother Nick Errato and wife Candace and niece Mia Tate all of Morrisville; his sister Julie Rosmer of Virginia Beach; and his siblings Marc and Chantal Montrone. His is also survived by his grandmother Elaine “Nona” Constantine and her husband Lynne and his grandfather James “Granddad” Kelly and his wife Millie. Anthony left behind 12 aunts and uncles and 20 cousins. Anthony is also survived by a special friend, Kim Barfield.

Netta Sears Ferrell
Netta Sears Ferrell, 93 of Apex died Friday July 27, 2007. She was born in Wake County on Oct. 5, 1913 to Zebulon and Delia Sears. She along with her husband John Clyde Ferrell managed their farm. Mrs. Ferrell is preceded in death by her husband.
Mrs. Ferrell also managed the cafeteria at AV Baucom School and was employed with Howard's Rest Home. Mrs. Ferrell was an active member of Green Level Baptist Church and a member of GT Mills Circle.
She is survived by her sons: William A. Ferrell (Bill) and his wife Doris of Apex, and Larry C. Ferrell of Willow Springs; daughters: Faye F. Wray and husband Thomas of Apex, and Judy F. Robertson and husband David of Eden; and nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, July 29, at Apex Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, in the Green Level Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Her grandsons Phillip Ferrell, David Cash, John Ferrell, Vernon Parrish, Will Ferrell, Stacey Sears, and Timothy Robertson served as pallbearers.
