Vivian Elaine Mangum
Vivian Elaine Mangum, 64, of Apex, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Wake Med Center in Raleigh. She was born in Harnett Co. to John Kenneth Adcox and Callie Beasley Adcox. Elaine loved God, Jesus, her family, friends and her church. She had a very deep love for her mother.
Grandma Elaine was a high spirited, joyful, wonderful person. If you knew her you were blessed. If you just met her you would never forget her. She loved to sing in the choir and she loved to ballroom dance.
Mom was always entertaining and loved to make people smile. She could have fed the world if you would have let her.
She is survived by her son Charles Linwood Mangum and his wife Rebecca of Smithton, IL and her son Alan Keith Mangum and his wife Elizabeth of Apex; her mother Callie Adcox Beasley of Dunn; her grandchildren Chris, Tommy, Nickolas and Max Mangum, Stephen McLaurin and his wife Nickie, Angela Markham and her husband Matt; her great grandchildren Ryder Markham and Blake McLaurin; her sister Dorothy Moore and her husband Jimmy of Dunn; her brother J K Adcox and his wife Vickie of Fayetteville, and her brother Jimmy Lee Adcox and wife Lisa of Indiana.
Elaine was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with hundreds of close friends and church family.
Elaine now joins in Heaven her soul mate and husband Kent Warren Mangum; and her father John Kenneth Adcox.
The family received friends at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. (Hwy 55), Apex on Sunday, Oct. 21 and a funeral service was held at Faith Baptist Church on Monday, Oct. 22. Burial is at Apex Cemetery.
Because of her strong support of God's work the family asks that in lieu of flowers, send donations to Faith Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1004 Hwy 64 W, Apex, NC 27502.
Berta G. Logan
Berta G. Logan, 91, of 736 New Hill-Olive Chapel Rd., Apex died Friday evening at home. Mrs. Logan was a lifelong resident of the Olive Chapel community, a member of the Olive Chapel Baptist Church.
A service celebrating her life and home going will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday Oct. 15 in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Logan in the year 2000. She is survived by her son Steve Logan and his wife Gladys of Apex; daughters Nancy Goodwin and her husband Ted of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Melba Goodwin of Raleigh; grandchildren Jonathan Logan, Jennifer Long and her husband Charlie, Frankie Redding and her husband Todd, and Eddie Goodwin. She also leaves four great grandchildren.
Her family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, and other times at the home. Reba Herndon Wilkinson
Reba Herndon Wilkinson, 86, of Apex, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at Rex Nursing Care of Apex. Mrs. Wilkinson was born in Wake County on Nov. 9, 1920 to Claude W. Herndon and Louvinia Lewter Herndon. She spent her life as a homemaker and mother, farming with her husband and retiring from Lufkin Rule Co. after 19 years. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where a funeral service will be held on 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 6, 2007 conducted by Dr. Jeff Beckett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her daughter Virginia Wilkinson and her husband Sid Hockaday of Morrisville; her son Richard T. Wilkinson Jr of Cary, her son Charles W. Wilkinson and his wife Cheryl of Morrisville, and her son Billy "BR" Wilkinson and his wife Teresa of Apex; grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, April and Laura Wilkinson; step grandson Kevin Hockaday; her brother Dallas Herndon of Apex; her sister Ruby Kelly of Apex; her sisters-in-law Sarah Fryar and Annabel Fryar, both of Apex. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wilkinson is preceded in death by her husband Richard T. Wilkinson; brothers Stacy Herndon and Thad Herndon; and sisters Maybelle Lawrence, Dovie Quillen and Ruth Wimberly.

Robert Clark Cady
Robert Clark Cady, 92, of Cary passed away at Carolina House of Cary on Dec. 3, 2007.
He is a retired U.S. Navy Musician and is survived by his wife Clare. Arrangements made by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
Thomas J. Harrison
Thomas J. Harrison, 69, of Cary, died peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 2007 after an ongoing battle with prostate cancer.
Harrison is survived by his daughter Kelly Scuotto and her husband Donald of Raleigh and daughter Kristin Andrews and her husband Donald of Angier, grandchildren Brittany and Ryan Scuotto and Kolten and Quentin Andrews, and sister Marie Sherman and her husband Gerard.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Harrison.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 22 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m.
Bernice Mary Strassberger Walsh
Bernice Mary Strassberger Walsh, 97 of Apex, formerly of Buffalo, NY; The Bronx, NY; and Poultney, VT, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 in Sunnybrook Health and Rehab of Raleigh. She was born in Buffalo, NY on Oct. 10, 1910 to Harry and Mary Margaret Zahm Strassberger. Walsh taught Elementary School for the Public School System.
She is survived by her son Richard P. Walsh, Esq. and his wife Terri of Great Falls, VA, and son Lt Col Edward J. Walsh and his wife Lt Col Susan Walsh; grandchildren Edward Joseph Walsh III, Lt. Christopher A. Walsh, Thomas Sean Walsh and Brian Patrick Walsh; and great grandsons Edward Joseph Walsh IV and Anthony Paul Walsh. She is also survived by her brother Paul Strassberger of Palo Alto, CA.
Walsh joins her husband Edward T. Walsh in Heaven, as well as her brother Rev. H. Richard Strassberger and her sister Eleanor Fagant.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. (Hwy 55) Apex.
A funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd., Apex, NC 27502-9254 (www.saintandrew.org). Inurnment will be at a later date in Gate of Heaven, NY.

Charlotte Neff Newman
Charlotte Neff Newman, 77, died on Dec. 24, 2007. A native of St. Louis, Mo., she grew up in Atlanta and relocated to Raleigh in 1956 after marrying Walter R. Newman. She moved to Glenaire Continuing Care Retirement Community in 2002, where she recently passed away after fracturing her hip.
The beloved wife and mother will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, the strong desire to give back to her community including founding Raleigh’s Trinity Presbyterian Church, her keen intellect, and her devotion to and delight in her family and pets.
Charlotte graduated from Atlanta’s Emory University in 1955 where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and a Phi Beta Kappa. She was one of the first women accepted into Emory University Medical School, but left after one year to move to Raleigh.
Charlotte worked at Chemstrand as an executive secretary, managed medical offices as a consultant, and was office manager at Raleigh Psychiatric Associates until the mid-80s. She and Walt subsequently ran Financial Concepts, Inc., where she was Vice President.
She gave a lifetime of service including co-founding Trinity Presbyterian Church in 1965. She was elected to the offices of clerk of the session and elder, as well as trained and served as a Stephen Minister. She was awarded the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Honorary Lifetime Membership in 1995.
She volunteered throughout her life, including donating more than 1, 000 hours of service to the classical radio station WCPE, which she and Walt loved to support. She also donated more than 27 gallons of blood plasma through the American Red Cross pheresis blood donor program. She was elected Worthy Matron, Order of the Eastern Star, Raleigh Chapter 295.
Charlotte loved to travel. She and Walt were Paul Harris Fellows through the Rotary Foundation and led a group study exchange to Northern Germany in 1990. They also traveled throughout the U.K., France, Switzerland, Austria, Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Chile. Through the International Visitors Council, she and Walt hosted guests from such countries as South America, Africa, France and Germany. She especially loved visiting London, where Walt lived as a young man.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her mother Helen Osterholm Neff and her father Carroll Forsythe Neff. She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 51 years, Walt and her two loving daughters Jeannie Newman of Reston, Va. and Melinda Newman of Los Angeles.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Glenaire Auditorium, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary, NC, 27511. A reception will follow. (For directions, go to www.glenaire.org or call 919-460-8095).
