Roy Timothy Rhodes
Roy Timothy Rhodes, 57, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007. Tim was born on March 7, 1950 in Sanford, son of the late Ila Mae and Roy Thomson Rhodes. He enjoyed childhood with his extended family while growing up near Spring Lake.
Tim's family moved to Lenoir County when he was 10 years old, and he became involved with Boy Scouts and made lifelong friendships. In his mid-teens he began "going steady" with his wife of 37 years, Wilda White Rhodes. He is survived by his wife and their two children, Mason Lee Rhodes of Chapel Hill and Marny Jane Rhodes of Raleigh. He is also survived by his brother Mark T. Rhodes of Hickory, his sister Donna Sue Rhodes of Pink Hill, and many beloved family members and friends.
He was a devoted husband and father, and was a steadfast Christian. His relationship with Jesus sustained him through the hard times and enriched him during good times. He had an understated and wonderful sense of humor, and his loved ones were amazed that he often cheered them up and made them laugh, even through his battle with cancer.
Tim had a distinguished career including serving as an MP in the US Army in Germany, working in management with Nortel Networks, and contributing to economic development in North Carolina in his role with the NC Community College System. Many of his colleagues have expressed how much Tim was liked and respected.
Tim was a good cook, and he fondly remembered family gatherings at their home. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. He was especially proud of his son and daughter, and was thankful to be able to attend Mason's graduation from the University of North Carolina last year, and Marny's recent baptism at Jordan Lake. A special thank you to our dear family, special friends, and to Hospice of Wake County for care giving and each act of kindness shown.
