Gail Marie Arends Marsh
Gail Marie Arends Marsh, 49, died on Feb. 14, 2009 in her home in Oxford. Marsh was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Rhinebeck, N.J. She graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1980. Gail was a dental hygienist for 26 years, until her health failed. She was especially known in her occupation for her gentleness.
She leaves her beloved husband, Robert Marsh of Oxford; her son Christopher Ronk of Cary; her daughter Leigh-Anne Ronk of Cary; her mother Joan Arends; her sister Nancy Knox of Alaska; sister Diane M. Krell of Durham; sister Christine Van Nice of Raleigh, sister Maryann Pirkey of Los Angeles California; her brother Gregory Arends of Rochester, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. She also will be truly missed by many of her cross stitching friends
Visitation will be held at Apex Funeral Directors, 550 W. Williams St. (Hwy 55) Apex, NC on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 6-7 p.m. A memorial service will follow.

Cary-Evelyn Bazemore Lucier
Cary-Evelyn Bazemore Lucier, 96, passed away on Feb. 13, 2009.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1912 in Bertie County, the daughter of Joe Redding and Della Parker Bazemore and was the youngest of eight children.
She was a Peace College graduate and thereafter worked in medical offices.
She settled in Raleigh and met her husband Arthur E. Lucier. At that time he was serving in the army during World War II. They were married in the First Baptist Church of Raleigh.
She deeply loved her family, her neighbors, her friends, and the Glenaire staff, where she spent her last years. She also loved animals and particularly her cat "Kitsy."
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arthur E. Lucier. Her surviving family includes, her niece Jo Lou Watson Strong and her husband Lewis, her great nieces Sandra Strong, Debra Winstead and Jay Dee Clip, and her great nephews John Strong, Rick Bennett, Joe Bennett and Edward Bazemore, along with several great great nieces and nephews.
Private graveside inurnment. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at Glenaire Retirement Community, in the multi-purpose room, on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Located at 5000 Glen Hope Court, off West Cornwall Street, Cary.

John Marshall Clement
John Marshall Clement, born July 18, 1932, was eager for Feb. 17, 2009 to arrive - that was going home day from three weeks in the hospital and one week at Laurels.
On the afternoon of the 17th, he did go Home – freed from the increasing physical problems he had.
How greatly his family will miss him: wife, Martha Sue; sons, Kip (Judy), William (Stephanie); daughter Rebecca C. Wingler (Brian), son-in-law, Billy Wilson; grandchildren, Jonathan and Elizabeth Clement; Laura and David Wingler; twin brother, Bill (Louise); sister, Evelyn C. Wooten and several nieces and nephews.
Clement was born in Raleigh to the late Ella and Phillip Clement. He graduated from NCSU in Forestry in 1954. He enjoyed two careers – timber procurement and later with Woodmen of the World Life Insurance. Preceding him in death are daughter Kathy C. Wilson, sister Dorothy C. Burgess and brother Phillip Clement Jr.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Apex Funeral Home. The service will be held at Olive Chapel Baptist Church in Apex on Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m., with interment at Collins Grove Baptist Church, New Hill.
Memorials may be made to Olive Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund or American Diabetes Association.
Martha Jane Turner Ewers
Martha Jane Turner Ewers, 83, passed away on Feb. 16, 2009 in Cary after a long illness. Born on Oct. 31, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia, she grew up in Hopewell, Va. Martha Jane, as she was known, graduated from Hopewell High School in 1942 and received her dramatic training at Mary Washington College.
After settling in New York City, she attended Feagen School of Drama and Radio and at the same time worked as a fashion model. During her earlier theatrical career she appeared as a dancer in musicals. She appeared in many summer stock productions all over New England including the Newport Casino theatre in Newport, RI. Ms. Ewers lived in Austin, TX before retiring to Cary in 1990.
Ewers was preceded in death by her mother Mary Reams Turner, father E. Randolph Turner Sr., and brother E. Randolph Turner, Jr. Surviving relatives include her sister Mary Reams Maynard of Cary, her five nieces and nephews, Mary Beth Berger of Bear Delaware, Martha Reams Maynard of Fuquay Varina, Reid Maynard of Apex, Thomas R. Turner of Crownsville, Md. and E. Randolph Turner III of Williamsburg, Va.
As she wished Ewers will be laid to rest near her father at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Smithfield, Va.
Colleen McGarry Calwell
Colleen McGarry Calwell, 53, of Whitsett, formerly of Cary, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Calwell worked as a Raleigh TV reporter immediately after graduating from Western Carolina University. She worked as the co-owner and appraiser with Calwell Appraisal Co., in Cary, for many years.
A loving mother and wife, Calwell enjoyed planning family vacations and watching and cheering her daughter’s basketball games, whether it was junior high, high school or college. She always had a smile on her face and had a “can do” attitude even when dealing with her challenges of breast cancer. She never let the disease impact her love of life. Her family would to personally thank Dr. Maha Elkordy and her staff along with Hospice for all their amazing work and compassion.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. Interment will follow the service at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Allen Calwell, her daughter Cassandra Calwell of Harrison, NY, her mother Betty J. McGarry of Sarasota, FL; her brother Dennis McGarry of Charlotte, her brother Jack McGarry of Sarasota, FL, her brother Pat McGarry of Estero, FL and her brother David McGarry of Clayton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 pm Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Norman Blair Allshouse
Norman Blair Allshouse, 88, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2009 surrounded by those who love him.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ora Lee, of Glenaire, daughter Janet Scott and husband Mike of Cary, grandsons Brett and Bryce Scott of Cary and sister Elaine of Pennsylvania.
Blair was a loving husband and wonderful father. He was most proud of his two grandsons who love their PaPaw dearly.
He was extremely fond of animals and had many beloved pets throughout his life.
Allshouse was born to the late Samuel and Velma Allshouse on Nov. 24, 1920 in Irwin, Penn.
He served his country as a member of the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II.
He was an employee of Pan American Airways for 42 years and served the company in many capacities, among them skilled negotiator.
Allshouse was an avid gardener and was known for his beautiful roses.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlingame, California where he sang in the choir prior to moving with his wife to North Carolina in 1995 to be with his grandsons.
Allshouse moved to Glenaire in 2005 where he made many wonderful friends. His kindness and caring way with people caused him to be loved by all who knew him.
We would like to thank all of the friends and staff at Glenaire who have been so caring and supportive.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Glenaire.
The family will greet friends at a reception following the memorial.
Isabel H. Lawrence
Isabel Helen Sears Lawrence, 95, of Apex, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Rex Hospice Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Wake County on Sept. 19, 1913, and was the daughter of the late Junius Seaton and Blanche Horton Sears. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Craig Lawrence, and her sisters Kathleen Sears Lawrence, Dorothy Sears Mathis, and Grace Sears.
She is survived by a brother, William Cecil Sears, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was formerly employed at UNC purchasing department. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Olive Chapel Baptist Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir as long as she lived. She and her husband devoted years of service as officers in the NC State Grange.
A service celebrating her life and homegoing will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Long will conduct the services and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends in the chapel of Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 12.
