Harold Ovre will officiate and interment will follow at the Methodist Cemetery in Starkweather. She taught in several schools in North Dakota and Minnesota, including eight years in Wolf Point, Mont. She then served as librarian at the Williston High School for eight years. She retired and continued to live in Williston for 13 years, and then moved to Devils Lake in 1980. BAINVILLE, Mont. - Alice Granley, 83, longtime resident of the Bainville community, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at her farm home northeast of Bainville. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the First English Lutheran Church in Bainville. The Rev. Al Beyer will officiate and interment will be at the Bainville Cemetery. Alice Christine Sundquist was born June 21, 1917, in Gonvick, Minn., to John and Magdalene Pederson Sundquist. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school at Gonvick. She was united in marriage with Albert Granley on Nov. 22, 1939, at her parents' farm home in Gonvick. They established their home near Bainville the following year and made their home there through all of these succeeding years. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and also taught Sunday school there. She enjoyed gardening, craft activities, baking and quilting. Her love for children, generosity and gracious attitude were evident to all. Alice is survived by her husband, Albert; three daughters, Arlene Sellers of Newburgh, Ind., Marion Harrelson of Livingston, Mont., and Joyce Schmid of Wenatchee, Wash., two sons, Lloyd of Williston and Dave of Bainville; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty Bjerkland and Florence Danielson, both of Gonvick and a brother, Donnie Sundquist of Proctor, Minn. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, six brothers and two sisters. TIOGA, N.D. - Oford Boe, 85, of his farm southwest of Tioga, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Tioga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, south of Tioga. The Rev. Chris Montgomery will officiate and interment will be at Trinity Cemetery. Oford Boe was born Oct. 8, 1915, in Farmvale Township, Williams County, the son of Martin and Minnie (Swanson) Boe. He was raised and educated in Farmvale Township. He attended the Iverson School, walking three miles back and forth. As a young man, he worked on the railroad. Oford lived on the family homestead all of his life and engaged in farming and raising Hereford cattle until his death. Oford was united in marriage with Rose Holden Bjorklund on March 18, 1971, in Phoenix, Ariz. Oford loved fishing and trapping and as a young man, he enjoyed rollerskating. He also enjoyed driving around, looking at the countryside. He was a very proud and independent man. Oford was very fond of his canine companion, Zipper. Oford was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of the Tioga Long-term Care Center; a step-daughter, Jane Christiana of San Jose, Calif.; two nephews, Emery Boe of rural Tioga and Jeff Larson of Sabin, Minn.; and five nieces, Twyla Olson of West Fargo, Bonnie Walhaug of Williston, Lola Brown of San Juan Capistrono, Calif., Pauline Benke of Wayzata, Minn., and Marilyn K. Larson of Tioga. Oford was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Grace Larson and Gladys Boe; a brother, Christian Boe; and a nephew, Marty Boe. TIOGA, N.D. - Lee Allen Krogen, 48, of rural Tioga, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Phoenix, Ariz., as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at First Lutheran Church in Tioga with the Rev. Chris Montgomery officiating. Cremation has taken place. Lee Allen Krogen was born May 15, 1952, at Tioga, the son of Arnold and Dorothy (Loscheider) Krogen. He was raised and lived his life on a ranch south of Tioga. He graduated from Tioga High School and had attended college in Fargo and Williston. Most of his life was spent farming and ranching. The last few years he owned the Dry Fork Cattle Corporation and worked down south during the winter months in the nuclear power plants. Horseback riding, snow and water skiing, hunting, boating and spending time with his daughters were some of the things Lee enjoyed most. He also was active in the Tioga Farm Festival, the White Earth Rodeo and the White Earth Saddle Club. Lee is survived by two daughters, Summer Dawn Krogen and Brooke Amber Krogen, both of Minot; a granddaughter, Saige Brooke Johnson; his parents, Dorothy and Arnold Krogen of Tioga, two sisters, Fern Leier and her husband, Nick, of Williston and Nancy Abel and her husband, Chuck, of Bismarck; and his girlfriend, Natalie Johnson. WATFORD CITY, N.D. - Georgette Cora Felland, 76, of Watford City, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Georgette Cora Marjorie Brown was born April 23, 1925, at Charlson, the daughter of George Sr. and Cora (Swenson) Brown. She was raised in the Charlson community and educated at Charlson. As a young lady she worked in the area, caring for children and cleaning homes. She was united in marriage with Irving Felland on Feb. 11, 1942, at Sidney, Mont. To this union two daughters were born. They resided primarily in Watford City, having a short stay in Fairview, Mont., and Bremerton, Wash. Irving preceded her in death on April 28, 1962, at Williston. Georgette was a hard worker and enjoyed people. Over the years she worked at many area restaurants and establishments serving the community. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, country drives and visiting with family and friends. She had a love of pets, including two cats, Pansy and Maisy and a dog, Duffy. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Hellman of Watford City and Sharon Wilkie, of Dunseith; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter, Charday Gladue of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a twin brother, George Brown Jr.; and two grandchildren. SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Dr. Carl Arthur Lindstrom, 78, of Sammamish, Wash., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue, Wash. Dr. Lindstrom was born May 3, 1923, in Williston, N.D. He was a graduate of Yale University and attended the University of Rochester Medical School in Rochester, N.Y. After his graduation from medical school, he took an internship at Madigan General Hospital in Fort Lewis. He served in Germany in the United States Army after his internship and then returned to Washington to undertake a residency at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Dr. Lindstrom was one of the first chiefs of staff at Overlake Hospital and served as anesthesiologist for the first surgery that took place at the hospital. He retired in 1985. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Hawaii and spending time at home on Pine Lake. Dr. Lindstrom is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 50 years; three daughters, Carla Lindstrom Swihart, Judy Lindstrom and Nancy Lindstrom Hottinger, all of Bellevue; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Anita Preston of Edmonds and Marie Barman of Billings, Mont.
Elvera Sundhagen

TIOGA, N.D. - Elvera Sundhagen, 86, of Tioga, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Tioga Long Term Care Facility in Tioga. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tioga. The Rev. Mark Olson will officiate and interment will follow at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Tioga. Elvera Lucille Olson was born Jan. 29, 1915, at Ray, the daughter of Nels and Ragna (Nelson) Olson. She was raised on the family farm and attended school at Pleasant Dale country school and graduated from Ray High School in 1933. As a young women she worked as a cook for the Olson Threshing Crew during harvests and also cooked at the Mattson Coal Mine. She shared her musical talents at the Ray Lutheran Church as a vocalist and organist. She also taught Sunday school there for many years. She was united in marriage to Elmer Samdahl at Ray, on June 30, 1951. They farmed north of Temple. To this union a daughter, Eileen Samdahl, was born. Due to ill health Elmer was sent to the San Haven Hospital in Dunseith and died there on June 25, 1953. Elvera married Alfred Sundhagen June 15, 1957, at Ray. They farmed and raised Hereford cattle and horses for many years in South Meadow Township, Williams County. They retired in 1980, and moved into Tioga in 1983, where she had lived since. On Jan. 20, 1994, Alfred preceded her in death. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Tioga and had been very active in her church life through the years at Ray Lutheran, as well as St. Olaf and Zion. She enjoyed time spent with the Ladies Aid in all of the parish communities. She served as a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed Sons of Norway gatherings. Elvera was a gardener. She enjoyed and canned the harvest of her labors. She also enjoyed crocheting. Family, friends and church were the focus of Elvera's life. She loved to laugh and was, at times, a prankster. She was always fond of children. Elvera is survived by her daughter, Eileen Samdahl of Fargo; her brother, Willard Olson and his wife, Violette, of rural Tioga; and two sisters, Evelyn Foss, and her husband, Bennie, of rural Ray and Doreen Kerbow, of Woodlands, Calif. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; two sisters, Adeline and Vivian; and two brothers, Floyd and Lester. SEATTLE, Wash. - Charles James "Jim" Wilder, 89, of Seattle, formerly of Marmon and Alamo, died Nov. 27, 2000, in Seattle. Graveside services and interment of cremated remains will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Riverview Cemetery in Williston. Charles James Wilder was born Aug. 21, 1911, at Jamestown, the oldest child of Donald Truman and Eva Marelius Wilder. He was raised in the Marmon and Alamo areas. He attended Twin Lake School and graduated from Alamo High School in 1929. He was active in musical groups and participated in the first Williston Band Days. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Jim was an accomplished pianist and after his schooling at UND, played in many big bands touring the United States including the Ralph Webster, Ozie Clark, Al Duncan and Tommy Reynolds bands. During World War II, Jim served with the United States Army 24th Special Service Company entertaining allied troops in northern France and central Europe. Jim was once married to Burniece Edgerton of Des Moines Iowa. After World War II, he moved to Seattle, where he was employed in the insurance industry. He worked for Prudential Insurance Co., and National Public Service Insurance Co., where he became the general division manager for the Seattle district. Jim never lost his passion for music and continued playing in bands in the Seattle area. During his retirement years he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion service organizations. Jim is survived by two brothers, George M. Wilder and Shannon D. Wilder, both of Williston; and a sister, Shirley D. Sommars of Pueblo, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Burniece, his parents; and two brothers, Jerry Wilder and Donald Wilder.

CROSBY, N.D. - Wanda (Webb) Blank, 98, of Crosby, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center, where she had been a resident for the last 10 years. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Concordia Lutheran Chapel in Crosby with the Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Interment will take place at Webster, S.D. Wanda Webb was born Aug. 24, 1902, at Wyndmere, the third daughter of Walter and Mabel Webb. While she was a young child, her family moved to Lidgerwood, where she graduated from high school in 1921. She taught there for four years in rural schools and then came to Divide County to teach in the fall of 1922. She continued her education during the summers at the Minot Normal School. Wanda married George Berg in 1924. This marriage later ended in divorce. Wanda was librarian at the Divide County Library for a year. She worked for Dr. Bergem for six years. In 1946, she was united in marriage with George Blank. For many years, she worked at the Rexall Drug Store. George died in December, 1965. For 10 years, Wanda spent the winter months in Florida with her sister, Velma. Wanda is survived by her sister, Verma Eby, 102, of Bradenton, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and life-long friends, Bob and Joan Thompson and family of Lignite and Barb and Steve Poeckes and family of Zahl. MILES CITY, Mont. - Thomas Larson, 70, of Miles City, formerly of Williston, N.D., passed away Sunday, May 20. 2001, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Unit in Miles City. Mass of Christian burial was scheduled for 10 a.m. today, May 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rites of Committal will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at Riverview Cemetery in Williston. Thomas Larson was born March 10, 1931, at Williston, the son of Harvey and Mae (Culkins) Larson. He attended Williston schools and graduated from high school in 1949. Following graduation, he worked for Montana-Dakota Utilities and then joined the United States Marines in 1952. He was stationed in California and played football for the Marines before serving in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, he worked for Crighton Distributors in Williston until 1961. Thomas was united in marriage with Bernadette "Bernie" Chewerda on Jan. 21, 1961, at Williston. Later in 1961, he again joined Montana Dakota Utilities, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. During those years, he served as president and financial secretary of the local IBEW 653. He also served on the Board of Directors for the local IBEW 653 Credit Union. Thomas was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Town & Country Club, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Miles City and Williston. He enjoyed playing golf and bowled on a league for many years. He also enjoyed watching his children's sporting events. He is survived by his wife, Bernie, of Miles City; two sons, Stephen Anthony of West Yellowstone and Michael Thomas and his wife, Lennie, of Denver; his daughter, Elizabeth Kay Jacobs and her husband, William, of Oakdale, Calif.; a grandson, Tony Jacobs; three step-grandchildren, Leo and David Jacobs and Phillip Herring; a brother, Harley Larson and his wife, Doris, of Williston; and two sisters, Doris Nelson of Williston and Delores Cordy and her husband, Howard, of Salem, Ore. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herschel and Cecil. WILLISTON, N.D. - Woodrow M. Ledahl, 88, of Williston passed away Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Bethel Lutheran Home, where he had been a patient for the last two months. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the chapel at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dean Larson and Rev. Joel Westby will officiate and interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Woodrow Ledahl was born Sept. 28, 1912, in Noonan to Bernie and Mathilda (Myhra) Ledahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He went to local schools and upon completion attended the North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton. In 1936, he was united in marriage with Agnes Jacobsen. They moved to Williston in 1944, and made their permanent home. Woodrow spent most of his life in construction work. His last place of employment was the North Dakota Highway Department of Williston, where he worked for 21 years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sister, Thelma Dobson of Eugene, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Gina Ledahl of Williston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes, in 1991; a brother, Linder; and a sister, Bernice. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar. Pastor Wes Aardahl will officiate and interment will follow at Coalridge Cemetery. The Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.
