Edward J. Lukes
Funeral services for Edward J. Lukes, 86, Lisbon, were held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon. Father Andrew Dudzinski officiated. Mr. Lukes died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Edward J. Lukes, son of Robert and Eleanora (Klemish) Lukes was born on March 18, 1918 in rural Lisbon. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School in Lisbon. He served in the U.S. Army in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre during WWII, April 1, 1941 - June 29, 1945.
On June 30, 1945, he married
Ruby Froemke at Battle Creek, Mich. Ed farmed near Lisbon. In 1973 they moved into Lisbon. Ed served on the ASC Board and the Draft Board. He was an active member of the VFW serving as Quartermaster and Commander and also serving as District Commander. He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans the Lisbon Eagles.
He is survived by his wife Ruby, Lisbon; two daughters, Dorothy (Keith) Davis, Fargo, Patty (Larry) Hanna, Billings, Mont; four sons, Joe (Peggy) Lisbon, Jim (Lyleen), Lisbon, Jerry (Jean) Fargo, David, Lisbon; 14 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Villers, Fort Myers, Fla. and Eleanor (Kenny) Ralston, Redding, Calif. He was preceded in death by brothers, George, Richard and Robert, sisters, Madge, Carolyn and Lillian and three infant brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Ryan Lukes, Todd Hanna, Michael Lukes, Lance Lukes, Brian Lukes and Mark Hanna.
Music was provided by organist Sarah Lyons and cantor Frank Lyons.
Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

LeRoy Eugene Thoreson
LeRoy Eugene Thoreson was born to Donald and Dorothy (Reberg) Thoreson on August 22, 1945, in Valley City, N.D. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of Waldheim Lutheran Church of rural Kathryn, N.D. He graduated from Kathryn High School in 1963, and worked for the Kathryn Lumberyard from 1963 to 1965. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science in the fall of 1965, and enlisted in the US Navy in October of that year. He was a master welder while serving in the Navy on the USS Askari and the USS Garrett County. He farmed near Fingal, N.D. from the fall of 1968 to the present.
He was united in marriage to Judy Junker on June 26, 1970 in Fort Ransom, N.D. They made their home on a farm near Fingal where they raised their three sons.
LeRoy was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Valley City Eagles Club, and a Nelson County Township board member. He served on the Kathryn School Board and was a past 4-H member.
He is survived by Judy, his wife of 34 years; his three sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, Harley, Jennifer, Hailey and Halley, Valley City, Michael, Crystal, Hunter and Jaden, Fargo, and Darin and Nicole, West Fargo; his parents, Donald and Dorothy Thoreson, Nome, his six brothers, Dale (Linda), Allison, Iowa, Charles (Deb), Fort Ransom, Ronald (Jan), Fingal, David (Cindy), Nome, Marlin (Laura), Grand Forks and Jeff (Cindy) Fingal; his three sisters, Marge (Rick) Henry, Vail, Colo., Marlene (Jeff) Dreier, Elbow Lake, Minn., and Julie (Allen) Anderson, Crookston, Minn., and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Leroy K Thoreson, 59, Fingal, North Dakota were held Friday, September 10, 2004 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn, North Dakota with Rev. Bradley Edin officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens near Valley City, N.D. He died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Rodney D. Anderson
Funeral services for Rodney D. Anderson, 34, Oakes, were held on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Stirum, N.D. Reverend Kirk Douglas officiated. Mr. Anderson died Friday, September 3, 2004 at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Rodney D. Anderson, son of Roy and Wynie Mae (Ferguson) Anderson was born on September 19, 1969 in Oakes. He grew up and attended school at Oakes, graduating with the class of 1988. Rodney worked for M & J construction before attending Phoenix Institute Technology, Phoenix, Ariz. After his schooling, he returned to Oakes and worked for Hoffman Irrigation and Dakota Improvement. Rodney lived and worked in Gwinner for B & M Trucking and later moved to Fargo and worked at K & T Irrigation and Concord Inc.
On April 30, 1999, he married
Michele Keepers. Rodney returned to Oakes in 2001 where he lived up until the time of his death. Rodney was diagnosed with a tumor on his spine as a small child and has fought a courageous battle throughout his life with many surgeries and stays in numerous hospitals.
He is survived by his father, Roy Anderson, Oakes; eight brothers, Orlyn (Corby) Anderson, Rapid City, S.D., Mouritz (Bonnie) Engquist, and Roland (Penny) Engquist, all of Oakes, Marlow Anderson, Battle Lake, Minn., Merrill (Marcia) Engquist, Gwinner, Marshall (fiance Charmane) Anderson, Fargo, Warren Anderson, Louisiana and Cory (Kathy) Anderson, Oakes; three sisters, Carolyn Anderson, Fergus Falls, Janis Hulm, Rapid City, and Ramona (Dale) Wampler, Hecla, S.D. He was preceded in death by his mother and nephew, Brandon.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Justin Bopp, Mike Visto, Glen Coleman, Joe Roney, Dave Hicks, Kenny Johnson and Steve Kinzler.
Music was provided by organist Gloria Bock and soloist Mari Schmitz.
Interment at Oakes View Cemetery, near Oakes.

Lucille V. Coon
Funeral services for Lucille V. Coon, 83, Oakes, were held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Lisko Funeral Home, Edgeley. Reverend Doyle Burkhardt officiated. Mrs. Coon died Friday, September 3, 2004 in Oakes Good Samaritan Center.
Lucille Violet Bolstad, daughter of Ludwig & Florence (Cossians) Bolstad, was born on January 15, 1921 in Lamberton, Minn. She moved with her family to Edgeley where she grew up and attended school.
On April 15, 1941, she married
Charles Coon. They farmed near Nortonville, N.D. In 1957 they moved into Nortonville. He died July 5, 1989. In 1992, she moved to Oakes. She entered Oakes Good Samaritan Center center in August 2004.
She is survived by four sons, George, Nortonville, Gerald (Patty), Chaine, both Oakes, Ned (DeAnne), Fargo; eight daughters, Charlotte (Darrel) Schweigert, Florence (Duane) Pribbenow, both Enderlin, Mary (Lynn) Greshik, Spiritwood Lake, N.D., Sandra (Rev. Doyle) Burkhardt, Guelph, N.D., Betty Coon, Oakes, Jill (Kenny) Geiszler, Fargo, Janet (Neil) Braasch, Dilworth, Daisey (Wayne) Moffit, Park River, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; a brother, Robert, Minneapolis; three sisters, Hazel Cogswell, Rochester, Minn., Marie Stockfleth, Circle Pines, Minn., Louise Meyer, Watertown, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; one granddaughter; one grandson; four brothers, Alfred, Walter, Lloyd and Harry; three sisters, Rosella Novonty, Eleanor Meyer, and Vera Bolstad.
Interment at Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville.

Alfred G. Illies
Funeral services for Alfred G. Illies, 82, Gwinner, were held on Friday, September 10, 2004 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. Father Vincent Fitzpatrick and Deacon Jerome Wisnewski officiated. Mr. Illies died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Lisbon Hospital, Lisbon.
Alfred George Illies, son of Benedict and Barbara (Brickzin) Illies was born on January 12, 1922 in Lidgerwood. He grew up on the farm south of Lidgerwood. He attended country school in Duerr Township. He later moved with his parents to Minnesota.
On October 5, 1944, he married
Doris Masterson in Bagley, Minn. They then lived in Clearbrook, Minn. for eight years. They then moved to Rutland where he owned and operated a blacksmith shop for two years. They then moved to a farm four miles north of Rutland. Alfred also worked for Nelson Implement (shop Forman) in Milnor. On July 8, 1975 Doris passed away. In 1975 Alfred moved to Bagley, Minn., where he lived and operated a small engine
repair shop. In 1990 he retired and moved to his son’s home in Gwinner where he lived until his death. He was a former K.C. member, a member of St. Arnold’s Catholic Church, Milnor, a former Eagle’s Club member, Bemidji, and former members of the Elks and Lion’s Club where he held several offices.
He is survived by two sons, Donald (Ann) Illies, Bemidji, Minn. and Dennis Illies, Gwinner, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Arlene) Illies, Aurora, Minn., and two sisters, Dorothy Odenbrett, Breckenridge and Veronica Ackerman, Wishek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, six brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Ray, Henry, Daniel, and Leo and three sisters, Regina Merschman, Marion Ciesynski and Cecelia Nathe.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Steve Meyer, Duane Orth, Scott Illies, Ann Illies, Phil Vossen and Dorie Illies.
Music was provided by organist Lori Pfeifer and soloist Mary Wisnewski.
Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood.

Milton F. Johnson
Funeral services for Milton F. Johnson, 82, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead. Mr. Johnson died Friday, September 3, 2004 in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo.
Milton F. Johnson was born on November 17, 1921 in LaMoure where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1939. He worked for the Ford garage before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served during the Korean War.
On June 13, 1946, he married
Geraldine Taron in Moorhead. They lived in Moorhead, where he worked for Powers Construction. He later worked as a security guard for ASP, Moorhead and retired in 2001. She died in 1998. He entered the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon in 2003.
He is survived by two sons, Kent (Sheila), Fargo, D.G. (Judy), Moorhead; a daughter, Faith (Daniel) Meurrens, Moorhead and four grandchildren. Interment
at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

John L. Kingston
Funeral services for John L. Kingston, 86, Enderlin, were held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at United Methodist Church, Enderlin. Reverend Duane Ferrie officiated. Mr. Kingston died Monday, September 6, 2004 at N.D. Veterans Home, Lisbon.
John L. Kingston, son of Tom and Jennie (Northridge) Kingston was born on June 9, 1918 in Pillsbury, N.D. He attended Pillsbury School graduating from high school there. He graduated from college in Ames, Iowa and also NDSSS in Wahpeton. He was in the U.S. Navy from June 1943 - November 1946.
On June 24, 1961, he married
Bernadine Heitkamp Manning, in Wyndmere. John worked in grain elevators for many years including managing elevators in Wyndmere and Alice. He was a member of the American Legion in Wyndmere and VFW in Enderlin.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine, Enderlin; daughters, Judy (Harry) Vouk, St. Cloud, Minn., Jill (Jerry) McCord, Slayton, Minn., Jean Haugen, Milnor; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Stanley (Gladys), Lisbon, two sisters, Jane (Gerald) Pittenger, Washington, Edith (Calvin) Greatsinger, of Washington. He was preceded in death by brothers, Maurice, Gordon, and Clayton.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jamie Haugen, James Vouk, Ryan Kleinschmidt, David Vouk, Daniel Vouk and Mary Iwen.
Music was provided by organist Myrene Peterson and soloist Sylvia Schlagel.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.
