Rosie D. Kulas
Funeral services for Rosie D. Kulas, 78, Hoople, N.D., were held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Barnes Family Funeral Service, Henriksen-Overbye Chapel, Park River. Mrs. Kulas died Saturday, August 28, 2004 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Hoople.
Rosie Kosmatka, daughter of Peter and Julie (Ginter) Kosmatka was born on May 21, 1926 in Pulaski Township, rural Warsaw, N.D. She was reared and educated there and attended St. Aloysius Academy.
On November 7, 1944, she married
Emil Kulas at Warsaw. They made their home in Hoople. Mrs. Kulas worked at the State Developmental Center in Grafton for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Emil, children, Darlene (Rodger) Peterson, Grand Forks, Phyllis Summers, Silas, Ill., Richard Kulas, Fargo, Roger Kulas, Gwinner; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Ruth Trent, infant daughter, Debra, a sister and a brother.
Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Park River.

Jacob Zwetzig, Jr.
Funeral services for Jacob Zwetzig, Jr., 91, Lisbon, were held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Donald Polege officiated. Mr. Zwetzig died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Perham Memorial Hospital and Home.
Jacob Zwetzig, son of Jacob and Eva K. (Meier) Zwetzig was born on March 19, 1913 in Bay City, Mich. He attended rural Lisbon school.
On January 31, 1939, he married
Wanda E. Schutt, in rural Gwinner. They farmed near Lisbon until retiring in 1977. They moved into Lisbon in 1980. Jake was active in Lisbon Senior Citizens.
He is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Wes) Kube, Richville, Minn., Carol (Eugene) Cross, West Fargo, Linda (Ken) Gudmunson, Casselton; one son, David, Fargo; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Beverly), Lisbon; three sisters, Freda Rehborg, Henning, Minn., Ruth (Richard) Sanderson, Lisbon, and Marion (Lloyd) Milligan, Fargo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aleck and sisters, Emma Bergemann and Esther Asp.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Wes Kube, Eugene Cross, Ken Gudmunson, Kathleen Serratore, Kristy Charleson, Cynthia Kube-Parks, Jennifer Cross Brager, and Jason Cross.
Music was provided by organist Louise Kunze and soloist Jan Hansen.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

John Patrick Coyne
John Patrick Coyne, Ret. Marine Corps SSgt, 57, Minot, N.D. died Monday, August 30, 2004 in a Minot hospital.
John was born November 30, 1946 at the Naval Air Station in Key West, Florida, to Vernon and Lila (O'Connor) Coyne, who preceded him in death.
John was raised in Fargo, N.D., and moved to Minot in the spring of 1964. He attended Minot High and West Fargo High Schools. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in the spring of 1964. He served three tours in Vietnam, 1965, 1969, and 1970. In 1975 he was honorably discharged after 11 years of service. He returned to North Dakota and began a career in law enforcement. He spent over 20 years in law enforcement serving various counties in North Dakota. In 2000 he retired and he began his courageous battle with cancer, due to exposure of Agent Orange. He was awarded the Order of the Silver Rose for his service to his country during the Vietnam Conflict.
John was a member of the Administrative Committee on Veterans Affairs, served as President of the North Central Plains Chapter 374 of Vietnam Veterans and Vice-President of Vietnam Veterans of America. He was a lifetime member of the VVA and DAV, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Canadian Vietnam Veterans Association and also served as Clerk of Court for McHenry County.
He was an avid golfer, softball player and an avid sports fan. He devoted most of his time to his Chapter 374 and Veterans Affairs. He loved spending time with his family.
John married
Gloria J. Best on June 20, 1998 at Towner, N.D.
Survivors: Wife, Gloria, Minot; children, Alyssa Jo Coyne and Patrick John Coyne, both of Wahpeton, ND, Kim (Matt) Dilley, Jon (Verna) Mahle, and Gail Mahle, all of Gillette, Wyo., and Lynnette (Jesse) Vollmer of Denbigh, N.D.; ten grandchildren; sisters, Lana Louise (Dr. Julio) Tula of Middle Village, N.Y., and Shirley Jean (CWO4 Clayton) Burtts USMC of Camp LeJeune, N.C.; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and several relatives and cousins throughout North Dakota survive.
Funeral: Friday, September 3, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 218 1st St. SW, Minot, N.D.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Joann G. DeVary
Funeral services for Joann G. DeVary, 69, Jamestown, were held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Mrs. DeVary died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
Joann Gail Loomer, daughter of John and Edna (Spitzer) Loomer was born on June 20, 1935 in Anselm, N.D. As a child she moved frequently with her parents and attended school in Oakes, Ellendale and LaMoure, graduating from LaMoure High School in 1954.
On April 27, 1955, she married
Paul DeVary at Angola, Ind. they moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked as a medical secretary at a nursing home. They later lived in the Battle Lake, Minn., area and moved to Sheldon in 1979 where they were foster parents for 11 years. In 1999, they moved to Jamestown. Paul died in March of 2001. She was a Sunday School teacher and a Cub Scout leader.
She is survived by two sons, James (Melanie), Dilworth, John (Tana), Jamestown; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; 13 foster children and two sisters, Carol (Donald) Stewart, Clitherall, Minn. and Robin (William) Herness, Racine, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Sandra.
Interment at North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan.

DiAnne Schudar
Funeral services for DiAnne Schudar, 64, Lidgerwood, N.D., were held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Geneseo, N.D. Reverend J. Vincent Fitzpatrick officiated. Mrs. Schudar died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
DiAnne J. Schudar, daughter of Howard and Evelyn (Enges Rein) Hilleson was born on June 8, 1940 in Britton, S.D. She attended country school at rural Hillhead, S.D. and graduated from Veblen High School, Veblen, S.D. After school she worked at a cafe in Minneapolis. She then moved to Lidgerwood and operated the Corner Cafe.
On October 26, 1979, she married
Dennis Schudar in Geneseo. She then worked at the Lidgerwood Cafe for 17 years, then at the Connection in Sisseton, S.D. for two years. She then owned and operated the Lidgerwood Cafe for a year until she retired due to health reasons. She was a member of the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary and St. Boniface Christian Mothers.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Schudar, Lidgerwood, ; son, Jeff (Melissa) Ortiz, Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Sheri (Robert) Fischer, Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother, Greg Hilleson, Gwinner; sister, Cheryl (Howard) Kath, Lidgerwood and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Ortiz; and brother, Gerald.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Harlan Hilleson, Justin Hilleson, Mathew Hilleson, Daniel Kath, Jeremy Kath and Kevin Schudar. Honorary pallbearers were all her friends.
Interment at Zion Cemetery, rural Veblen.

Mabel L. Thompson
Funeral services for Mabel L. Thompson, 89, Fingal, N.D., were held on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon. Phyllis Williams and Jenny Connelly officiated. Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Mabel Lillian Christianson, daughter of Oscar and Matilda (Anderson) Christianson was born on July 8, 1915 in rural Fort Ransom. She attended rural Fort Ransom School.
On October 25, 1937, she married
Edward E. Thompson in Breckenridge, Minn. They lived in Sheldon for a few years. In 1954 they moved to Fingal. He died July 7, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary (David) Tingley, Fingal; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer (Ginny) and Vernal, both of Rochester, N.Y.; and one sister, Delores (Marvin) Mund, Milnor. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, James.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Darin Tingley, Mitchell Tingley, Scott Kjellend, Jeff Thompson, Randy Kjellend and Kenneth Kjellend.
Music was provided by organist Charlene Myers and the singers were friends of Mabel.
Interment at Casselton Cemetery, Casselton.

Asger Fog
We have received additional information beyond that which was included in the Asger Fog obituary which appeared in the August 1, 2004 Gazette.
In 1933 the Fog family moved to a farm south of Lisbon.
Following his graduation from Lisbon High School, Asger joined the US Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii and on the island of Guam.
In addition to his wife, Bette Fog and his brother Peter (Verna) Fog, Waseca, Minn., Asger was also survived by two more brothers, Gunnar (Ruth) Fog, Sawyer, Mich. and Jorgen (Patsy) Fog, Shoreview, Minn.; and a sister, Anna (Barney) Isakson, LaMoure, N.D.
Asger was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marie, and a brother, Holger.
Catherine “Katie” Lawrence
Catherine “Katie” Lawrence, 70 of Cayuga, N.D. passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge, Minn. Funeral Mass was held Monday, August 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cayuga, with Father Frank Miller as celebrant and burial will be in the Cayuga Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold Lawrence, Allan Lawrence, Don Kiefer, Don Isensee, Louis Gaukler and Kurt Breker.
Honorary pallbearers were: “All her friends”.
Organist was Bee Banish and special music will be sung by Janet Kiefer.
Catherine “Katie” Lawrence was born on April 13, 1934 in Cayuga, North Dakota the daughter of Louis and Mildred (Koschney) Jagodzinski. She grew up in Cayuga and attended school in Cayuga and graduated in 1952 from Rutland High School. She worked for Bud’s Grocery while attending school. After school, Katie moved to Fargo where she worked as a lab technician for St. Luke’s Hospital.
On September 26, 1956 Katie was united in marriage to Clifford Lawrence at Cayuga, N.D. After their marriage they farmed south of Cayuga. Clifford passed away April 23, 1984 and she continued to live on the farm. Katie enjoyed gardening, she loved her flowers, spending time with her family and friends, dancing, traveling and watching her grandchildren. She was a very caring person and put everyone else before herself. Katie was the best mother, loving and caring grandmother, perfect sister and perfect sweetheart.
Katie was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, was Church Treasurer for 20 years, on the Parish Council, Christian Mothers, Eagles in Lisbon, Sargent County Social Service Board, Homemakers Club, Birthday Club, Happy Red Hatters Society and the Cayuga Auxiliary.
Katie is survived by a special friend, Art Olson of Lisbon, N.D.; five daughters, Diane (Pete) Sherman of Valley City, N.D., Nancy (Bill) Noeske of Valley City, N.D., Cheryl (Ron) Fiemann of Plymouth, Minn, Bonnie (Jeff) Springer of Page, N.D., Gerri (Tod) Dunn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Larry (Clarice) Jagodzinski of Mooreton, N.D., George (Carol) Jagodzinski of Anoka, Minn.; sister, Marcy (Donald) Wacloff of Becker, Minn., ten grandchildren, Stephanie, David and Nick Noeske, Taylor Sherman, Brooke and Ryan Fiemann, Casey and Cody Springer, Rylie and Ryan Dunn. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Clifford Lawrence.
