Jon C. Anderson
Funeral services for Jon C. Anderson, 54, Lisbon, N.D. were held on Monday, October 4, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mr. Anderson died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Jon C. Anderson, son of Arthur C. and Ragna H. (Larson) Anderson was born on May 9, 1950 in Valley City, N.D. He attended Fort Ransom School, graduating from high school in 1968. Jon also attended Valley City State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in History in 1972.
On May 30, 1981, he married Jeanie Himebaugh Wiltse in Fort Ransom. Jon lived in Jamestown where he worked for International Harvester. He moved to Lisbon where he worked as partsman at Berube’s, Lisbon and Kramer Motors, Enderlin. He worked for AAL Insurance and Walock-Johnson Insurance in Lisbon. He was currently working for John Deere Seeding Group in Valley City.
He is survived by his wife Jeanie, Lisbon; two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Lund, Lisbon, Kristen (Kelly) Brummmund, Lisbon; four grandchildren; and one brother Daniel (Charlotte) Jamestown.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were Sherman Syverson, Larry Ketterling, Tim Faller, Mike Dick, Paul Nelson, Rick Mairs, and Jim Printz.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel and soloists Larry Ketterling and Wayne Strander.
Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery, Fort Ransom.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph E. Eidsvig
Funeral services for Ralph E. Eidsvig, 80, Kathryn, N.D., were held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn. Reverend Bradley Edin officiated. Mr. Eidsvig died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon.
Ralph Ellsworth Eidsvig, son of John Albert and Reidun (Nytroen) Eidsvig was born on June 5, 1924 in Kathryn, N.D. He attended nine years of school at the Kathryn School. In 1939 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC’S) with his brother, Vernon. In 1940 he joined the National Guard in Valley City. He was a member of Battery D 188th Field Artillery. He was shipped overseas in 1944 and later fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.
His civilian life was spent in Kathryn. He tended bar for 25 years, first as an employee and then as owner. He bought the bar in 1961, naming it Ralph’s Bar.
On August 19, 1961, he married Bernice Huseby Lindemann in LaMoure, N.D. They sold the bar in 1975. Ralph also worked as a substitute rural mail carrier until being appointed as a full-time carrier in 1980. He retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Eidsvig, Kathryn; son, Dr. Alan (Diane Haugen) Lindemann, Enderlin; daughters, Pat Lindemann, Aurora, Colo., Bonita (Steve) Kereluk, Fargo; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion DiAllesandro and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vernon Eidsvig, Quentin Eidsvig, and Dale Eidsvig and sister, Dolly Pertrowitz.
Interment at Waldheim Cemetery.

Earl H. Strand
Funeral services for Earl H. Strand, 82, Bismarck, N.D. formerly Leonard, were held on Friday, October 1, 2004 at Helendale Lutheran Church, Leonard. Reverend David Thoreson officiated. Mr. Strand died Sunday, September 26, 2004 at St. Alexis Medical Center, Bismarck.
Earl H. Strand, son of Theodore and Molly (Anderson) Strand was born on January 8, 1922 in Sheldon. He attended rural Sheldon School.
On February 7, 1942, he married Ruby E. Anderson, in Moorhead, Minn. They farmed near Sheldon from 1942-1953. They spent six months on the West Coast where Earl worked at Boeing. From 1954-1956 they lived in Sheldon where they owned and operated a grocery store. In the spring of 1956 they returned to farming near Sheldon. In 1962 they moved to rural Leonard where they farmed. From the mid 1960s to 1980 Earl played accordion/cordivox with the band, “Earl and the Boys”, “The Sociables”, and later “The Rangers”. In 1984 they moved to Leonard. In 2001 Earl moved to Bismarck to live with his daughter and her husband. Ruby died May 13, 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Randy) Schwab, Bismarck, Judith R. (Robert) Foster, Haines City, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene (Arlene) Sheldon, Ronald (Beverly) Mission, Texas; two sisters, Ardell (Denis) Anderson, Mesa, Ariz., and Irene (Tom) Cox, Fargo. He was preceded in death by his wife, his sister, Elaine, brother, Leon and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Trever Fey, Troy Roesler, George Wendling, Bob Reichael, Randy Clem, Stephen Clem, Larry Strand, Doug Mohrlang, and Aaron Clem.
Music was provided by organist Berniece Painter and soloist Millard Dahl.
Interment at Helendale Lutheran Cemetery, Leonard, N.D.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Zubrod
Vernon Zubrod, age 76, died Monday, September 27, 2004 at his home in Valley City, N.D. surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, October 2, 2004 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City with Rev. Michael Schommer celebrant. Interment was at St. Catherine's Cemetery at Valley City.
Vernon was born May 22, 1928 at New Leipzig, N.D. the son of Lawrence P. and Ruth (Arndt) Zubrod. At age two Vernon's mother died. Vernon and his sister Arlene (Bjerke) were raised by his father and Aunt Freda on a farm near New Leipzig, N.D. where Vernon graduated from High School. Vernon, together with his father, sister, and aunt moved to Kathryn, N.D. in 1948. Vernon married Mary (Murphy) April 26, 1954 in Manvel, N.D. Vernon farmed, while raising his family, until he retired in 1986. He was an active member of school boards, township boards, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club, and St. Catherine's Church.
Vernon enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He supported his children's school and sporting activities along with being a big fan of basketball, baseball, football, and hunting with friends. He spent a life time of socializing and playing cards with friends which continued in 1990 when Vernon and Mary moved to Valley City, N.D.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Mary and seven children; five sons and two daughters; Michael Zubrod, Jamestown, David Zubrod, Valley City, Joe (Virginia) Zubrod, Valley City, Tom Zubrod and his fiancée (Lori Youness), St. Cloud, Minn., James (Karen) Zubrod, Valley City, Kathy (Jerry) Sorby, Fort Ransom, and Ruth (Darrel) Brudevold, Pillsbury, N.D.; ten grandchildren, Angie and Jeremy Brudevold, Justin and Mitch Sorby, Philip, Brian, Pauline, and Barbara Zubrod, and Austin and Carson Zubrod. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Joyce M. Anderson
Joyce Marilyn Anderson was born in Lisbon, N.D. on November 22, 1930 to Carl and Minnie (Olson) Anderson. She attended school there and went on to Valley City State and UND where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority.
Her degree in education and her love of children led to a career of primary teaching in Oakes, N.D. before her marriage to Charles Anderson, Forman, on November 17, 1952. She also taught kindergarten in Forman for ten years. Joyce was an active member in Trinity Lutheran Church and loved teaching Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Traveling with Charles in their airplane to several destinations in the U.S. and particularly around the Midwest was a special pleasure of hers. Other interests included dancing, bowling, golf, gardening, reading, cards, and music, but she was happiest entertaining friends and family. Her life was doubly blessed when she and Charles spent the last 24 years wintering at their home in Arizona, as they made new friends and neighbors and were reunited with special old relationships and alumni.
Joyce M. Anderson passed away Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the Oakes Community Hospital in Oakes, N.D. after her five year battle with cancer. Her funeral was conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Forman. Burial was in the Forman Cemetery under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Forman. The Reverend Bill Schardin officiated.
Living in deep appreciation for her zest of life and her great love to us all are her husband of 51 years, Charles; daughters Rebecca (Gary) Geiszler, Sacramento, Calif., Pat (Bud) Brown, Phoeniz, Ariz.; son Joe (Sandy) Anderson, Forman, N.D.; two grandchildren, Nikki and Luke Anderson; and a brother, Charles (Lois) Anderson, Missoula, Mont.

John A. Kobylski
Funeral services for John A. Kobylski, 85, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, September 21 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon. Mr. Kobylski died Saturday, September 18, 2004 in the Lisbon Hospital, Lisbon, N.D.
John A. Kobylski, son of Anthony and Genevieve (Dobruszalasi) Kobylski was born on October 31, 1918 in Detroit Michigan. During World War II, he served with the 45th infantry, US Army Division in Africa, Sicily, Italy, southern France and Munich, Germany. He moved to Horace in 1969 where he lived for 12 years and then moved to Kindred returning to Horace in 1995, living there until he entered the North Dakota Veteran’s Home in Lisbon in the fall of 2000.
Mr. Kobylski was a member of St. Benedict Church, Horace and a lifetime member of VFW post 7564, West Fargo. Before retiring he had worked for the Roofing and Sheet Metal Workers in Fargo.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Seiberling and Anna Seymoure, Detroit, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.

Robert (Bob) Johnson
Robert (Bob) Johnson, 65, Athol, Idaho, died Saturday, September 11, 2004 in the Pinewood Care Center, Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. His funeral and burial were in Athol, Idaho.
Robert Johnson was born on October 4, 1938 in Lidgerwood, N.D. Most of his school years were in Fort Ransom where he graduated from high school. He got his degree in education from Valley City State College.
After living in California for many years, Bob moved to Athol, Idaho. He lived there until his death.
He is survived by a daughter, Julie, California; sons, Jeff, California, Tim, New Mexico; and a sister, Doris Hanson, Fort Ransom.

LaVerne A. Kresse
Funeral services for LaVerne A. Kresse, 84, Embden, N.D., were held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church, Embden. Reverend David Sobek officiated. Mrs. Kresse died Sunday, September 19, 2004 in Innovis Health, Fargo.
LaVerne Alice Gust, daughter of Richard and Grace (Janke) Gust was born on June 21, 1920 at Embden. Following her graduation from Lincoln High School in Casselton, LaVerne attended Moorhead (Minn.) State University and then began teaching at the Maple Grove School District #84 near Leonard.
On June 7, 1941, she married Clarence Alfred Kresse at Moorhead, Minn. They farmed and had a gravel business near Embden. In 1959, she returned to teaching at rural Alice and continued her education at Valley City State University and obtained her standard degree in 1961 and her bachelor’s degree in 1962. She taught for 13 years at Alice, N.D. and later at Enderlin, retiring in 1985. Mr. Kresse died in December of 1995. She was baptized and confirmed at the Embden Moravian Church. When the Embden church closed, They became members of the Alice Moravian Church until it’s closing in 1987, when they joined the Goshen Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Lana (Robert) Nudell, Buffalo, Renee (Alvin) Wolf, Embden, Naomi (John) Mougey, Sheldon, Brenda (Larry) Nygard, Embden; one son, Richard, Alice; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Lindemann, West Fargo; and a brother, Glenmore Gust, Alice. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Alvar and Orv Gust; one grandson and a great-granddaughter. Pallbearers for the funeral were granddaughters, Michelle Martin, Lisa Baumler, Sarah Olson, Tiffany McKinnon, Jessica Mowbray and Rachelle Nygard.
Music was provided by organist Pearl Radloff and Goshen Men’s Choir.
Interment at Buffalo, N.D. Cemetery.
West Funeral Home, West Fargo and Casselton, was in charge of arrangements.

Karson I. Lemer
Memorial services for Karson Isley Lemer, infant, Valley City, N.D., were held on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Valley City. Reverend Mark Hale officiated. Karson died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Karson Isley Lemer, son of Loren and Donna (Jorgenson) Lemer was born on Sunday, September 5, 2004 in Fargo.
He is survived by his parents, Loren and Donna Lemer; siblings, Dalles Jorgenson, Deven and Krystyl Lemer, all at home; his grandparents, Eugene and Phyllis Lemer, Valley City, Donald and Karen Jorgenson, Sibley, N.D.; aunts and uncles, Jodi (Jeff) Erickson, Lincoln, Neb., Laurie (Mike) Harshman, Grand Forks, Paulette (Carlos) Gonzalez, Fountain, Colo., Mary Jo (Kevin) Randle, Hazen, Gail (Jeff) Nelson, Valley City; and many cousins.
