Janice C. Nelson
Funeral services for Janice C. Nelson, 70, Fargo, formerly of Mooreton, ND, were held on Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Mooreton Lutheran Church, Mooreton. Pastor Phil Larson and Pastor Gordon Lee officiated. Mrs. Larson died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Elim Nursing Home, Fargo.
Janice C. (Johnson) Nelson, daughter of John R. and Evelyn Beatrice (Jackman) Johnson was born on November 11, 1934 in Sargent County. She grew up on the farm.
On November 14, 1952, she married Earl M. Nelson at Forman. After their marriage they lived near Cayuga, ND. She helped on the family farm and drove school bus for a while. After moving to Mooreton she worked at Wil-Rich and then worked at St. Catherine’s Health Care Center before retiring. She had been presently living at Elim Care Center in Fargo.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; two sons, Keith (Deb) Nelson, Fargo, Donald (Tracy) Nelson, Milnor; two daughters, Michele (Allen) Berndt, Cayuga, Kathy (David) Olson, Fargo; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Yvonne) Johnson, Rutland, and Jerry (Jeanie) Johnson, Chokio, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lana Jo and a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Travis Berndt, Ryan Olson, Derek Nelson, Hal Nelson, Paul Nelson and Alan Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Clarice Jagodzinski and special music sung by Linda Hinrichs.
Interment at Mooreton Lutheran Cemetery.
Frank Family Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.

Muriel L. Good
Funeral services for Muriel L. Good, 93, Enderlin, formerly of LaMoure, were held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Dahlstrom Funeral Home Chapel, LaMoure. Reverend John Estrem officiated. Mrs. Good died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Muriel Leona Halvorson, daughter of Herman and Mina (Jacobson) Halvorson was born on December 20, 1910 at LaMoure. She attended school in LaMoure graduating from LaMoure High School with the class of 1928.
In 1931, she married William B. Good at Breckenridge. The couple farmed near LaMoure until William’s death on January 18, 1970. Muriel continued to live on the farm until moving to Fargo in 1982. In 2002, she moved to Enderlin and in May of 2003, Muriel became a resident of Maryhill Manor.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlys Bjerke, Davenport; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva (Rev. Marvin) Scherbenske, Devils Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, two sisters and one grandson.
Music was provided by organist Marcia Young and soloist Darlene Olson.
Interment at Rosehill Cemetery, near LaMoure.

Ronald Mehl
Funeral services for Ronald Mehl, 91, Hillsboro, were held on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. Mr. Mehl died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital.
Ronald Mehl, son of Rudolph and Clara (Gilbertson) Mehl was born on October 15, 1913, near Lisbon. He grew up in this area and attended school. Ronald worked for an implement dealer in Lisbon prior to moving to Hillsboro with his family in 1939. They ran the Gambles Hardware Store in Hillsboro for a number of years before the business closed in 1967.
On June 6, 1969, he married Clarice “Kelly” Hausmann in Hillsboro. They made their home in Hillsboro. He worked for the Hillsboro Medical Center for over 29 years in the maintenance department. Ronald was an active member of the Hillsboro community where he was involved in the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club, the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Hillsboro Ambulance Squad and a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Gunderson, Fargo; his brother Allan Mehl, Denver, CO; two step-sons, Paul Hausmann, Hillsboro and Charles Hausmann, Virginia Beach, VA; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Rose S. Fick
Funeral services for Rose S. Fick, 85, Verona, were held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Verona. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Mrs. Fick died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Oakes Good Samaritan Center, Oakes, ND under Hospice care.
Rose S. Jensen, daughter of Jens and Inga Marie (Engen) Jensen was born on February 9, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN. She attended rural Fort Ransom School.
On September 24, 1941, she married Alvin Fick in rural Fort Ransom. They farmed near Verona. Rose was a member of Sheyenne Valley Arts and Crafts and Verona Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband Alvin, Verona; one daughter, Janice Cropp, Verona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Lorne Cropp, Jerald Cropp, Nels Paulson, Jim Jensen, Marlin Jensen and Raymond Heiser.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl.
Interment at Pilgrim’s Rest, Verona.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Doris L. Huether
The funeral for Doris L. Huether, of Lisbon, ND was held Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Lisbon, ND, with Reverend Rich Lows officiating. Visitation was Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was at
Doris Lorraine Walock, daughter of Bernard "Bert" and Lauretta (Davis) Walock was born on September 9, 1924 near Elliott, North Dakota. She grew up and attended rural school near Elliott through the tenth grade. Doris was united in marriage to Adolph Huether on January 20, 1941 at Breckenridge, Minnesota. Doris and Adolph made their home and farmed eight miles west of Lisbon along Highway 27, where they together raised their seven children. Doris was a willing helper on the farm; driving truck or tractor, and cooking meals for combine crews.
Doris loved to crochet, read, cook and travel. For 23 years, she and Adolph enjoyed wintering in Texas. They moved to Lisbon in 1991, where Doris continued to live in their home up until the time of her death. Adolph's death in 1997 ended a marriage of 55 years.
In recent years, she and her sister Alice enjoyed making donuts, and having donuts and coffee with friends as they stopped by to pick up their donut orders. She also loved to play cards and was ready for a game of hand and foot any time of the day or night. Frequently, you would find her watching the NASCAR races on TV. She could tell you where all the Dodges came in at the end of the race.
Doris was a faithful Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lisbon. She served in many capacities over the years, including Sunday school teacher, deaconess, Awana teacher, and a circle member. Her faith in God was foremost in her life. She enjoyed reading the Bible and any books by Christian authors.
Doris passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. She was 80 years old.
She is survived by seven children, Gary (Elaine) Huether, Indianapolis, IN, Karen (Wendell) Strasser, Lennox, SD, Eldon (Barb) Huether, Cloquet, MN, Kathy (Pat) Hay, Sioux Falls, SD, Rita (Dennis) Fenton, New Philadelphia, OH, Randy (Emily) Huether, Lisbon, ND, and Bonita (Don) Olson, Englevale, ND; a sister, Alice McDaniel, Lisbon, ND; a brother, Bob (Betty) Walock, Fargo, ND; sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and five brothers.
The funeral for Doris Huether was held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, Lisbon, ND. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Travis Olson, Cory Strasser, Brian Burger, Tyson Fenton, Tristian Huether, Shane Walock, Brandon Huether, Scott Hay, and Tony Huether. Honorary pallbearers were Julie Strasser, Lori Poppinga, Stephanie Perry, Wendy Meadows, Teryna Wyskochil, Lori Jo Burger, Krista Dotseth, Trisha Olson and Karla Brien. Mary Ann Bartell, organist, Les Gibson, soloist and Esther Officer, pianist provided the music for the service. Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Duane L. Tayer
Funeral services for Duane L. “Rip” Tayer, 77, Milnor, were held on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Milnor Lutheran Church. Reverend Julie Johnson officiated. Mr. Tayer died Sunday, October 17, 2004 under hospice care.
Duane Layton Tayer, son of Edward and Myrtle (Johnson) Tayer was born on April 13, 1927 at Milnor, where he grew up and attended school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Milnor Lutheran Church. After his schooling, Duane began working at the Milnor Creamery before serving his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Duane returned to the Milnor area and began working again for the Milnor Creamery, where he was employed for 18 years.
On August 20, 1949, he married Bev Warner in Milnor, where they made their home. In 1958, Duane went into the plumbing business with his brother Donny and later bought the business from him. Duane’s sons Tim and Brian later joined Duane in the business known as Tayer’s Plumbing and Heating.
On September 13, 1973, Duane married Loyola (Schonhoff) Kratcha. They made their home in Harwood and Wyndmere before returning to Milnor. Loyola passed away on July 24, 2003. Duane was appointed to the state plumbing board and served as president for a term. He was also active with the Milnor Merchants, Milnor Development Corporation, the Milnor Fire Department and was a board member of the Milnor Clinic. Duane was a life-long member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Milnor.
He is survived by nine children, Paulette (Gary) Lien, Tim Tayer, all of Milnor, Kraig (Kellie) Tayer, Shaker Heights, Ohio, Carolyn (LaVerne) Colby, Brian (Paula) Tayer, Barb (Glen) Koeppe, all of Milnor, Rick Kratcha and Roger Kratcha, both of Gwinner and Debbie (Steve ) Kratcha/Ellefson, Milnor; twenty-five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (E. Clair) Halvorson, Milnor; one brother-in-law, Gerald (Marion) Schonhoff, Milnor; and three sister-in-laws, Rosella (Jim) Levin, Springfield, Mo, Mary (Ed) Johnson, Duluth, Minn. and Monica (Jim) Staudt, Hartselle, Ala. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyola, his parents, and one brother, Donald.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all of his grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Carol Ydstie and soloist Teresa Goolsbey.
Smith-Thune American Legion Post #148 and Gibbon-Miller V.F.W. Post #9069 will present military rites.
Interment at Milnor Lutheran Cemetery, near Milnor.

Martin F. Thoreson
Memorial services for Martin F. Thoreson, 92, Valley City, were held on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Reverend Newton Trimmer officiated. Mr. Thoreson died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Martin Fredrick Thoreson, son of John M. and Lena (Anderson) Thoreson was born on December 19, 1911 near Kathryn. He grew up on the family farm in rural Kathryn and attended rural school. Upon completion of the eighth grade he attended diesel school. His parents passed away when he was a young man and so he took over the farm and family.
He married his first wife, Ruth. They lived on the farm together until her death in 1969. Martin continued to farm.
On December 26, 1971 he was united in marriage to Helga Lillian Nellermoe Hesse at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. They made their home in Kathryn and wintered in Casa Grande, Ariz. before moving there full time. They lived in Arizona for 25 years before moving back to North Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks for a few years before entering the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City in August of 2004.
Martin was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Valley City and also of the Sons of Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Helga Thoreson, Valley City; two stepsons, Jerry (Erma) Hesse, Bozeman, Mont., Del Hesse, Sandy, Ore., Myron Hesse, Coolidge, Ariz. and Vaughn (Pauline) Hesse, Grand Forks; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane Thoreson, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth, two sisters and a step-granddaughter.
Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.
