Robert M. Hanson
Funeral services for Robert M. Hanson, 90, Vergas, MN, were held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Loon Lake, rural Vergas, MN. Reverend Michael Wolters officiated. Mr. Hanson died Friday, December 24, 2004 at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Robert Myron Hanson, son of Henry and Josephine (Olson) Hanson, was born on September 14, 1914 in Menahga, MN. Their family moved to the Battle Lake, MN area where he attended school and graduated in 1932.
On August 2, 1937, he married
Erma Enfield. They made their first home in New York Mills, MN where they started their family and Robert worked for a farmer. Later, they moved to Battle Lake where they rented and operated their own farm. Around 1947 they moved to rural Vergas, purchased a dairy farm. About 1977, Robert retired from dairy farming and they began traveling. Eventually, they decided to make southern Texas their winter home. Robert was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Loon Lake. He served many years on the Dora Township board.
He is survived by his wife, Erma, Detroit Lakes; a son, Richard (LaVon) Hanson, Detroit Lakes; three daughters, JoAnn (Clarence) Gulland, Sheldon, Roberta Osterberg, Estes Park, CO, Sandra (Terry) Stromberg, Fergus Falls; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Riendel, Renton, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Oliver and Theron; two sisters, Agnes Hagen and Alice Stuart and a son-in-law, James Osterberg.
Interment at St. Paul's Lutheran Loon Lake Cemetery.

Gertrude E. Cotton
Gertrude E. Cotton, 87, Lisbon, ND, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon. No funeral service is planned. (Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon).
Don W. Dick
Don W. Dick, 68, Manasquan, NJ, died at his home on Sunday, December 26, 2004, under the care of hospice, following a short battle with cancer.
Don was born on the family farm, near Englevale, ND, on May 3, 1936, to William and Blanche (McDaniel) Dick. He graduated from Lisbon, ND High School and then joined the United States Army. Don served in Korea as well as other areas, including Pakistan, where he taught foreign soldiers on the use of U.S. electronics. Don's last posting while in the Army was to Ft. Monmouth, NJ.
On December 4, 1953, Don was united in marriage to Judy Devine, Enderlin, ND. The marriage ended in divorce. Don married
Marilyn Baker on September 10, 1966, in Bradley Beach, NJ.
Don obtained a degree in Business Administration at Monmouth College, NJ, and was employed as a bank examiner for the F.D.I.C. at the Wayne Field Office, NJ. In his later years with the F.D.I.C. Don worked in Washington, D.C. as a computer instructor for all new trainees across the country. He retired in 1998.
After retirement Don worked part-time for Meridian Quality Care as a Regional Environmental Supervisor. He was a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge and was a former member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also a member of the Four Seasons Computer Club, and, as a hobby, greatly enjoyed helping others with their computer problems.
Don is survived by his wife Marilyn; one daughter and three sons, Mary (Bruce) Madsen, Lisbon, ND; Don Jr. (Julie) Dick, Enderlin, ND; Kevin (Kathy) Dick, Chester, SC; Doug (Donna) Dick, Mayville, ND; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one step-son, Steve (Wendy) Baker, Neptune, NJ; one step-daughter, Patti Scott, Belmar, NJ; and six step-grandchildren. Survivors also include one brother, William (Jane) Dick, Englevale, ND, two sisters, Berniece Tanner, Lisbon, ND, and Dorothy (Don) Litchfield, Bismarck, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vivian McCloud.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 31, 2004, at the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall, NJ, with the Rev. Stanley E. Ellison presiding.
Pallbearers were Don Litchfield, Steve Baker, Jeff Baker, Matthew Baker, David Scott, Tom Bukata, and Jeff Doebler.
Military honors presented by an Honor Guard from Ft. Dix, NJ.
Interment at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.
Aline P. Anderson
Aline Priscilla Anderson, 76, Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, December 31, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Aline was born April 26, 1928 to Christ and Gusta (Sandvig) Olson in Enderlin, ND, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended Moorhead (MN) State College and received her teaching certificate. She then taught in a country school.
On September 14, 1952, she married
Garfield Anderson at Moorhead. After raising their four children to school age, she went to work for Moorhead Technical School where she worked in the Financial Aid Office. She retired in 1981, the same year that Gar retired as the Moorhead Fire Chief. They were able to enjoy winters in California and summers in Moorhead until Gar's death in 1988. He was the love of her life and she never stopped missing him. After Gar's death Aline went to work at MeritCare hospital in the housekeeping department. She then worked for Dow services at Microsoft until she became ill. She was devoted to and very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a unique sense of humor that she shared with family and friends. She was also a charter member Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. She is survived by her four children, son, Tom (Lori) Anderson, Moorhead; daughters, Kristi (Brien) Nelson, Kindred, ND, Jody (Craig) Geron, West Fargo, ND, and Sonia Anderson (Mitch Thomas), Enderlin, ND; grandchildren, Emily (Larry) Cuypers and their son, Wyatt, Andrew Nelson, Jeremy (Kim) Anderson and their two children, Hunter and Skyler, Cody Pritchett, Dustin (Leila) Pritchett and their son, Carter, and Katie Geron (fiancé Arlan Koch); a sister Liz (Ralph) Graalum, Wahpeton, ND; sister-in-law Leila Olson, Grand Forks; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Howard Olson. We wish to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during her illness. A special thank you to the staff at Bethany Homes for their tender care.

Her funeral was held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
Helen M. Gunderson
The memorial service for Helen M. Gunderson, 79 of Aberdeen, was held Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Karl Hester officiating. She died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Parks at a later date.

Helen M. Keller was born January 26, 1925 to Charles and Elizabeth (Balliet) Keller at Aberdeen, SD. She grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School. She was a majorette and performed tap dancing and acrobatics at many places in the Aberdeen area.
After getting her education, Helen worked as a secretary at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen.
Helen married
Stan Gunderson on January 2, 1947 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They lived in Aberdeen until moving to Lisbon, ND in 1955. There she worked as the secretary for the superintendent of schools in the Lisbon school district. In 1975 they moved to Hinsdale, IL, in the Chicago area, where Helen worked at Suburban County Hospital. They remained in Hinsdale until their retirement in 1983 when they moved back to Aberdeen where they have lived since.
Helen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was also member of the Little Red Hens Girl Scout troop when she was younger. The friendships she made there were kept strong for over 50 years. Helen was a member of Moccasin Creek Country Club and was an avid golfer. She enjoyed sewing and loved to cook. Known to some as the Cookie Lady, Helen was a champion cookie maker with many blue ribbons and purple grand prize ribbons from the Brown County Fair.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband: Stan; son: Barry (Michele) Gunderson, Denver, CO; two daughters: Mitzi (Paul) Johnston, Miami, FL and Peggy (Mike) Kelly of Houston, TX; four grandchildren; Kelly Johnston, Todd Johnston, Chris Kelly, and Matthew Kelly; sister Doris (Don) Angerhofer, Aberdeen; many nieces and nephews; and her granddog: Ruby.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marian Mathes.
The family prefers memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen.
Gary D. Anderson
The funeral service for Gary Anderson, 71, Kathryn, ND, were held Friday, January 7, 2005 at Preston Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn with Reverend David Carlson officiating. Burial was at Northland Cemetery, rural Kathryn. He died Tuesday evening, January 4, 2005 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Gary Douglas Anderson was born August 3, 1933 at the home of his parents, George and Alice D. (Hansen) Anderson in Northland Township, Ransom County, North Dakota. He attended Bear Creek School near Kathryn. He later attended Kathryn High School.
He farmed with his father for many years until his father died in 1971. He continued to farm including the original homestead that his great-grandfather had. Gary retired in 2002. He truly loved the land which he cared for.
Gary was a member of Preston Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, Eagles and Elks. He had served on the Kathryn Elevator Board for 35 years. He also served on the Northland Township board and Northland Cemetery
board.
He always enjoyed a very large garden, which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was a belt buckle collector and also collected antique farm equipment. Gary's family was also very important to him.
Gary is survived by his sister Delaine Anderson, Kathryn, ND; four nephews, four nieces and 11 grand nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gale.

Marvin E. Buth
Memorial services for Marvin E. Buth, 73, Lisbon, will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN. Mr. Buth died Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Lisbon Veteran’s Home, Lisbon.
Marvin E. Buth, son of Ferdinand and Edna (Gehrke) Buth was born on September 22, 1931 in Barnesville. He attended a one room country school in Deerhorn Township, Wolverton, MN for eight years. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1949. Marvin was a veteran of the US Air Force serving at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Upon his discharge he worked as a salesman selling automobiles and farm machinery.
On February 10, 1956, he married
Joyce Haley of Elbow Lake, MN. They lived near Wisconsin Rapids, WI, where he operated his own business, manufacturing rock pickers and rock rakes.
He is survived by three daughters, Laurie Story, Lisa Buth and LeAnn Tozzi, all of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren; three brothers, Ardell (Ruth) Buth, Moorhead, Gordon Buth, West Fargo, Wallace Buth, Sacramento, CA; and a sister, Janice Getz, Barnesville, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Larry.
Interment at Mitchell Township Cemetery, Wilkin County, MN.

Daryl D. Braaten
Funeral services for Daryl D. (Dean) Braaten, 52, Detroit Lakes, MN were held on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Pastor Daniel Babine officiated. Mr. Braaten died Friday, December 31, 2004 at his residence.
Daryl D. Braaten, son of Elmer and Evelyn (Gronhovd) Braaten was born on January 3, 1952 at Edmore, ND. He grew up in Edmore and graduated from Edmore High School in 1970. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.
On July 21, 1973, he married
Debbie Tollefson at New Town, ND. In 1975 they moved to Detroit Lakes where Daryl worked for Lystad’s until 1984 when he owned and operated Braaten’s Pest Control. They later divorced. He later owned and operated DB Coffee and Vending, SCA Air Freshner, and recently was a salesman for Mannatech. Daryl continued to live in Detroit Lakes up until the time of his death. Daryl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes and the Detroit Lakes Eagles Club. He was a past member of the Detroit Lakes Jaycees and Optimist Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Stacey (Dan) Gravelle, Detroit Lakes; two sons, Chris Braaten, Detroit Lakes, Aaron Braaten, Detroit Lakes; one grandson; two sisters, Agnes Dick, Harvey, ND, Ellen Dick, Faribault, MN; three brothers, Arne Braaten, Cedrowolley, WA, Ron (Carol) Braaten, Lisbon, and Gary (Karen) Braaten, Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Walter and John Dick.
Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, Richwood, MN.
