Ernest E. Berard
Funeral Mass for Ernest E. Berard, 89, Lisbon, ND was held on Monday, August 1, 2005 at North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon. Father Jerry Finnestad was the celebrant. Mr. Berard died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon.
Ernest E. Berard, son of Eugene and Lea (Charbonneau) Berard was born on April 9, 1916 in Olga, ND. He attended Carlisle Country School, rural Bathgate, ND. He farmed with his father near Bathgate. In 1936 he worked for the CCC for six months.
In 1940, he married
Lucille De Maine. She died in 1941.
In 1943 he married
Lorraine Bertrand. He entered the Army in 1945. He trained in Texas. He guarded war prisoners in El Reno, OK. He served for 18 months. She died in 1953. After the service he farmed until 1959. He lived in Neche, ND working construction in the area.
In 1972 he married
Yvonne Davis. They lived in Cavalier. He retired in 1977. On October 8, 1997 he entered the ND Veterans Home. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Bathgate, Neche and Cavalier.
He is survived by two sons, Emil (Donna) Dickinson, Larry (Karen), Surrey, ND; four daughters, Arlene (Gerald) Fiedler, Minot, Charlotte Chounard, Pharr, Texas, Marlene (Ralph) Cannon, Pharr, Texas, Stephanie Sailer, Fargo; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Percy, Yuba City, CA; and one sister, Jeanette DeMares, Cavalier, ND. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur and two sisters, Isabelle and Leona.
Pallbearers for the funeral were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were the ND Veterans Home Residents.
Music was provided by organist Genell Carlson and soloist Sylvia Holmstrom.
Interment at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Bathgate.

Floyd A. Bohnenkamp
Funeral Mass for Floyd “Fritz” Bohnenkamp, 85, Cogswell, ND, was held on Monday, August 1, 2005 at the Cogswell Community Center. Father Mathew Pamplaniyil was the celebrant. Mr. Bohnenkamp died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the Lisbon Area Health Services in Lisbon.
Floyd Andrew Bohnenkamp, son of John and Rosa (Hansen) Bohnenkamp was born on March 22, 1920 near Oakes, ND. He grew up and attended school in the Straubville and Cogswell areas.
On September 15, 1941 he married
Katie Schreiner in Cogswell. The couple lived near Cogswell where they raised livestock and farmed until 1948 when they moved to Ashland, OR. He worked in the logging industry. In 1956, they moved back to the Cogswell area, where they raised livestock and farmed. In June of 2004 he entered the Four Seasons HealthCare Center in Forman, ND.
He is survived by his wife, Katie, Cogswell; two sons, Jerry, Cogswell, Jim (Barb), Gwinner; one daughter, Linda (Arlan) Albro, Cogswell; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Esther Sobeski, Lisbon, Margaret (Mike) Hayen, Cogswell, and Betty (Earl) Marscheider, Spearfish, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Special music was provided by Josh and Annalisa Cutler.
Interment at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, near Cogswell.

Anna W. Neva
Funeral services for Anna W. Neva, 97, Jamestown, ND, formerly, Kensal, ND, were held on Friday, August 5, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Kensal, ND. Reverend Michael Ward officiated. Mrs. Neva died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the home of her daughter, Shirley Hoggarth.
Anna W. Wulff, daughter of Carl and Marie (Jorgenson) Wulff was born on June 7, 1908 in Visbor, Denmark. She came to the United States in 1917. She and her sister, Dagny, were raised by their aunt, Gena Pearson. She attended school in Beusephailiea Township and Kensal High School. She graduated from Valley City State College and taught in area schools.
On April 1929, she married
Jack L. Neva at Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Kensal. She was a clerk at the Kensal Post Office for 16 years. Following the death of her husband in 1960 she continued to reside in Kensal. In 1985 she moved to Jamestown. She was a member of the Kensal United Methodist Church and the last surviving charter member of the Kensal Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by six children, Jack (Jeri) Neva, Houston, TX, Nadine Johnson, Kittitas, WA, Bob (Paulette) Neva, Fargo, Shirley (Darwin) Hoggart, Jamestown, Liz (Leon) Doyle, Wimbledon, ND, formerly of Lisbon, Bill Neva, Mandan; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Bob Van Dyke, Jamestown; two sisters, Marie (Bert) Kracht, Kensal and Beulah Desenberg, Norwalk, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Margaret Van Dyke, one son-in-law, Oliver Johnson; four grandchildren; and one sister, Dagney Clise Probst.
Interment at Kensal Cemetery, Kensal.

Frederick W. Johnson
Funeral services for Frederick “Fred” W. Johnson, 85, Valley City, ND, were held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Congregational United Church of Christ, Valley City. Reverend Pamela Moeller, PhD officiated. Mr. Johnson died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Frederick Wilbur Johnson, son of Godhart and Laura Johnson was born on November 7, 1919 near Lucca, ND. He attended school at Lucca and later helped his father on the farm. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in McDill Field, Tampa, FL. He was discharged in 1943 and returned to farming northeast of Lucca.
In 1944, he married
Doris Helen Naekel at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Valley City. They farmed for 39 years before moving to Valley City in 1985. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Valley City. He also belonged to the American Legion in Fingal and the Eagles Club and Disabled American Veterans, both in Valley City.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Johnson, Valley City; a son, Curtis (Teresa) Johnson, Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Sonny) Johnson, Enderlin, Victor (LaVerne) Johnson, Moorhead; three sisters, Ann (Al) Urman, Moorhead, Ethel (Don) Wischer, Fargo and Violet Amiot, St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George Johnson and a sister, Clara Gorman.
Interment at Memory Gardens, near Valley City.

Arlane. A. Dahl
Memorial services for Arlane A. Dahl, 82, Minnetonka, MN, were held on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mrs. Dahl died Friday, November 4, 2005.
Arlane A. Dahl, daughter of Lew and Laura Froemke was born on March 1, 1923 in Lisbon. She graduated from Sheldon High School. She attended Business College in Fargo.
She married
Floyd Dahl. She worked in Florida for two years then in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd; children, Richard (Diane), Jerry (Julie), Barbara (Bill) Wolfe, all Minneapolis.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Audrey Schmidt, Lisbon and Argil (Holly) Froemke, Lisbon; sisters-in-law, Maxine Dahl and Laura Froemke, Enderlin.

William F. Raatz
Funeral services for William F. Raatz, 81, formerly, Verona, ND, were held on Monday, November 14, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Verona. Mr. Raatz died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
William F. Raatz, son of Emil and Louise (Pooch) Raatz was born on July 31, 1924 in LaMoure, ND. He attended school in Verona and graduated in 1943. Soon after he was drafted into the Army where he served two years in Japan and the islands in the Pacific. Upon his return, he made his home in Verona where he farmed for many years.
On May 6, 1949, he married
Helen L. Wollerman in Grand Rapids, ND. The couple made their home on a farm near Verona. Once retired from farming they moved to Verona where Mr. Raatz worked as a custodian for 25 years at the Verona School. He was involved with the American Legion and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Verona.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; four sons, Rick Raatz, Lewiston, ID, Fred (Kim) Raatz, Oakes, Randy (Janice) Raatz, Oakes, Lonny (Shanan) Raatz, Mapleton; two daughters, Cheryl (Dale) Coe, Fargo and Lisa (Mike) Dahlen, West Fargo; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Verda Roehr, Britton, SD, Doris Schumann, Gillette, WY, Alice Pedersen, Fargo; brother, Richard Raatz, Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Brenden.
Interment at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Verona.

Lila A. Bieber
Funeral services for Lila E. Bieber, 89, Java, SD, were held on Friday, November 4, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, SD. Pastor Susan R. Carr officiated. Mrs. Bieber died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center, Selby, SD.
Lila Emma Weisgram, daughter of Emma (Bauman) and Anton Weisgram was born on July 30, 1916 at Java, SD. She lived in java until age 12, when she moved with her family to Bowdle, SD.
On March 3, 1935, she married
Fred C. Bieber at Bowdle, SD. They farmed near Java until August 1982 when they moved into town. With the exception of wintering in Phoenix, AZ the last 25 years, she lived in Java the rest of her life. She was an active church member, belonging to the Altar Guild, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) and teaching Junior Lutherans. She was a charter member of the Java Garden Club and belonged to the Sew and So Extension Club.
She is survived by three sons, Harry G. (Virginia) Bieber, Bismarck, Arlyn F. (Janice) Bieber, Kent, WA and Ross J. Bieber, Java, SD; two sisters, Elsie Bentz, Phoenix and Celia Brunton, Phoenix; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Harry (in infancy) and Joe.
Music was provided by organist Carol Fiedler and special music by Rosina Stiegelmeier.
Interment at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Java, SD.
Gladys Nelson
Funeral services for Gladys Nelson, 87, Strasburg, formerly Gwinner, ND, were held on Friday, November 18, 2005 at Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church, Gwinner. Reverend Josh Schunk officiated. Mrs. Nelson died Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Linton Hospital.
Gladys Nelson, daughter of Jacob and Emma (Hansen) Jacobson was born on June 8, 1918 in rural Volga, SD. She attended school in Aliceton Township, rural Gwinner.
On June 2, 1952, she married
Marvin A. Nelson in Volga, SD. They lived in Montevideo, MN and Huntley, MT before moving to Gwinner in 1962. She worked as a cook for the North Sargent School. She was active in the Gwinner American Legion Auxiliary and the church. She was presently living in the Strasburg Care Center. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Altar Guild, a church lector and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Nelson died October 19, 1976.
She is survived by two sons, Steven (Debra), Linton and Mark (Jan), Grand Forks; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Hamrick, Roswell, NM.
Pallbearers for the funeral were David Nelson, Pete Nelson, Richard Jacobson, Eric Nelson, Aaron Nelson and Brian Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were current and former members of GA Lutheran Church and choir.
Music was provided by organist Becky Salberg.
Interment at Gwinner Cemetery, Gwinner.
