Gladys B. Hamre
Funeral services for Gladys B. Hamre, 86, Fargo, ND, were held on Friday, November 18, 2005 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Mrs. Hamre died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Gladys B. Hamre, daughter of Ben and Clara Trangsrud was born on December 21, 1918 on a farm near Enderlin. She attended Liberty School and Enderlin High School. Following graduation she attended New York Beauty College in Fargo.
On September 24, 1941, she married Wallace Hamre. She worked at the Enderlin Drug Store for several years and in the mid 1950s opened her own beauty shop in their home in Enderlin. After moving to Fargo, she had a beauty shop in their home for over 15 years.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace, Fargo; one son, Curtis (Shari), Plymouth, MN; one grandson; one great-grandson; a sister, Marlys (Wayne) Muilenburg, Enderlin; and a brother, Myron (Lois) Trangsrud, Valley City. She was preceded in death by sisters, Myrtle Iverson, Evelyn Svedjan, Cora Vee and Edna Markel and a brother, Burnell Trangsrud.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.
West Funeral Home, Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Inez V. Sheppard
Memorial services for Inez V. Sheppard, 84, Fargo, ND, were held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Bethany Chapel, Fargo, . Reverend Phil Larson officiated. Mrs. Sheppard died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Inez V. Sheppard, daughter of Charles H. and Ada A. (Severson) Cooper was born on February 21, 1921 in Brampton, ND. She attended Brampton School and Ellendale College.
On June 4, 1944, she married Wilbur P. Sheppard in Brampton. Mrs. Sheppard was an elementary teacher at Mandan, Lisbon, Cogswell, Drayton and Gwinner. She served as church organist at McCabe Methodist in Bismarck and First United Methodist, Lisbon. Mr. Sheppard died in 1981.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Benjamin (Sandy), Casper, WY, Alan J. Fargo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Faye Cooper, Ruth Cooper and Agnes Cooper, Bethany Homes in Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Sheppard and a daughter, Judy Huber.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Kirk Huber, Paul Huber and Ryan Huber.
Music was provided by organist Roanne Masterson.
Interment at Old Sargent Cemetery, Cogswell, ND.

Bruce A. Harrington
Funeral services for Bruce A. Harrington, 82, rural Underwood, MN, were held on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls, MN. Reverend Brad Soenkson officiated. Mr. Harrington died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.
Bruce Ardell Harrington, son of Alexander C. and Daisy B. (Bugbee) Harrington was born on July 13, 1923 in Lisbon. He attended the Edwards School District #187 Country School through 8th grade.
In October 1943 he entered military service and served in the US Army’s 9th Infantry Division as a medic. In addition to receiving three Purple Hearts, he was awarded five Bronze Star Medals. He was discharged in January 1946 and returned home to Otter Tail County. Before and following his military service he worked for Harvey Morrill Construction.
He married Romayne Hanson on November 5, 1946, at the Tingvold Lutheran Church, rural Underwood. Mr. Harrington worked for Morrill Construction until 1948 when he became owner-operator of Harrington Trucking. After selling Harrington Trucking in 1967 and moving to Round Lake in rural Underwood, he worked for National Tea Packing, Ted Leitch Construction and later as road maintenance operator for Aurdal, Sverdrup, Main and Amor townships. He worked for Amor Township until late 2002. He was a current member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, the VFW and Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. He was a past member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Romayne; daughters, Gail (Fred) Joseph, Minneapolis and Jean (Jim) Tenneson, Fergus Falls, sons, Gary (Karalyn) Harrington, Battle Lake and Kevin (Sue) Harrington, Omaha; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; half sister and brothers, Arlene (Stanley) Jensen, Darrell (Doris) Miller, Rollis (Luella) Miller, Clarence (JoAnn) Miller, Harold (Betty) Miller; sisters-in-law Violet Lazzaro and Audrey Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, two half brothers, Dale Miller and Chester Harrington; a half sister, Betty Harrington; three brothers-in-law, Joe Lazzaro, Rick Rechtermann and Wynn Arnold and one sister-in-law Harriet Rechtermann.
Interment at Tonseth Lutheran Cemetery, rural Erhard, MN.
Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, was in charge of arrangements.

Janice M. VenHuizen
Funeral services for Janice M. VenHuizen, 77, Clinton, IA, formerly, Fulton, IL, were held on Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Church of the Open Door, Clinton, IA. Reverend James Machen officiated. Mrs. VenHuizen died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA.
Janice M. VenHuizen, daughter of Frank P. and Elizabeth M. (Schroeder) Billing was born on June 13, 1928 in Lisbon. She was educated in North Dakota grade and high schools and received her teaching certificate from Valley City State College, Valley City. She went on to receive her BA in education from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA.
On June 6, 1952, she married James R. VenHuizen in Cooperstown, ND. Mrs. VenHuizen taught school in Sutton, ND and then taught in the Garden Plain, Prairie Center and Union Grove Schools of rural Whiteside Co., IL. She was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Clinton, IA. Mr. VenHuizen died January 25, 1995.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Hand, Littleton, CO, Debra (Allen) Driscoll, Clinton, IA and Julie (Alan) Burris, Parker, CO; two sons, Michael (Deola) Anderson, Fort Collins, CO and Gary VenHuizen, Portland, OR; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Fadness, Colorado Springs, CO and Karen Eslinger, Fargo; two brothers, Bernard (Mary Jane) Billing, Boise, ID and Edwin Billing, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Iver Anderson and James VenHuizen and one brother, Kenneth Billing.
Interment at Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton, IA.

Myrtle C. Johnson
Funeral services for Myrtle C. Johnson, 89, Glyndon, MN were held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon. Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Sunnyside Care Center, rural Lake Park, MN.
Myrtle Christine Versdahl, daughter of Herman and Anna (Ekre) Versdahl, was born on August 28, 1916, in rural Wyndmere, where she grew up and received her education. She worked for a few years at the Sears and Robuck store in Fargo.
On July 14, 1940, she married Lloyd Johnson in Fargo. The couple began farming near Enderlin, and later bought a farm near Walcott. In 1960 they purchased a dairy farm near Glyndon. They retired in 1976. After Lloyd died in 1996, she moved to the Sunnyside Care Center.
She is survived by three sons, Larry (Janet), Kensington, MD, Lynn, Washington DC, and Walter, Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Oscar (Ruth) Versdahl, Wahpeton; one sister, Helen (Wally) Charlson, Belle Fourche, SD; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, and one daughter, Marian Ahles.
Interment at Helendale Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leonard, ND.

Wendi Magstadt
Funeral services for Wendi Magstadt, 39, Jamestown, were held on December 20, 2005, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Rev. Thomas Eckstein officiated. She died Saturday, December 17, 2005, at her home in Jamestown.
Wendi Joy Magstadt, daughter of Marvin and LaVonne (Moan) Magstadt was born on April 21, 1966 at Sidney, MT. She moved with her parents to Wimbledon, ND in 1967, and later to Jamestown where she attended the Jamestown schools. Wendi worked as a waitress in both Fargo and Jamestown and later worked for Dynamics Marketing and Subway in Jamestown.
In June, 1991, she married David Disrud in Fargo.
She is survived by three daughters, Heather Disrud, Fargo, Taylor Anderson, Enderlin, and Hanna Magstadt, Jamestown; one son, Phillip Disrud, Fargo; her mother, LaVonne, Jamestown; and three sisters, Becky Magstadt, Terri (Doug) Orr, and Kim (Randy) Weatherly, all of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin, one brother, Deron, and her grandparents.
Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. L.L. Wiltse
Dr. L.L. Wiltse, 92, Carmel, CA, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005. He is a brother of Wilna Schulz, Lisbon. Full obituary in next week’s Gazette.

Francis Utke
Funeral services for Francis Utke, 95, Fargo, were held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Boulger Funeral Home Chapel. She died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
Francis Utke was born on May 3, 1910 in Enderlin. She attended school in the Enderlin area. Francis lived at home until January, 1946 when she entered Grafton State Hospital. In 1969 she moved to San Haven. She had lived at Fraser Hall, Fargo since May, 1986.
Interment at Springvale Cemetery, Fargo.

Gweneth Hamilton
A memorial service for Gweneth Hamilton, 66, Minot, was held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 at Trinity Homes, Minot. She died Thursday, Dec. 15 in a Minot nursing home.
Gweneth Hamilton, daughter of Thomas and Marjorie (Curfman) Hamilton was born on July 17, 1939, at Rugby, ND. She graduated from Rugby High School in 1957. Gweneth attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and accompanied the Varsity Bards, a UND men’s choir. She was a member of Delta Psi Kappa, an honorary group of women in physical education. Horses were Gwen’s passion. She was a regular participant at the Pierce County Horse Show while attending UND, and she spent three summers as a horse wrangler in a mountain camp in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Upon graduation from UND in 1961, Gwen taught high school at the Jefferson County District in Kittredge, CO.
During her first year there, she was a passenger in a motor vehicle accident in which she sustained a severe head injury from which she never fully recovered. After her accident she lived with and was cared for by her mother, Marjorie, in Denver, CO, where she worked for a time as a volunteer at the Swedish Hospital. Gwen and her mother moved to Fargo where she and her mother worked in a daycare and a cleaning service. They later moved to Minot where Gwen was admitted to the Trinity Nursing Home.
She is survived by brothers, Mark (Penny) Hamilton, Minot, and Tom Hamilton, Lisbon; sister, Marsha (Wayne) Smogaurd, Fargo; uncle, Aldon Curfman, Hickory, NC; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers were her family and friends.
Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, was in charge of arrangements.
