Jerry E. Bock
Funeral services for Jerry E. Bock, 71, Lisbon, were held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Rev. Donald Polege officiated. Mr. Bock died January 23 at his home in Lisbon.
Jerry E. Bock, son of Elmer G. and Tena (Bot) Bock, was born October 15, 1934 in Lisbon. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1952. He was drafted into the US Army in 1958, where he received a medal of commendation for meritorious service. He was discharged in 1960.
On May 29, 1955, he married
Maurene Miller in Lisbon. He worked for Rube's Oil and Lisbon Standard Oil. He worked most recently at True Value Hardware in Lisbon. He attended Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon.
He is survived by wife Maurene; two children, Jodee Bock, Fargo, and Patti (Larry) Martin, Webster, SD; two grandchildren; a brother Jim (Lois), Breckenridge, MN and two sisters, June Roder, Osnabrock, ND, and Sharon (Dale) Seim, Hankinson.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Frank Kunze, Charlie Orn, Larry Baarson, Roger Farley, Charlie Rotenberger, and Larry Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Lowell Carlson and Bob Tangen.
Music was provided by organist Louise Kunze and soloist Cary Verdi.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Matthew Brantl
Matthew Brantl, age 19, of Valley City died Saturday, January 21, 2006, as the result of a vehicle rollover near Mapleton, ND. A Funeral Mass was conducted Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Rev. Gerald McCarthy and Rev. Mark Ostgarden officiating. Interment
will be later in the spring at Memory Gardens Cemetery
near Valley City.
Matthew Daniel Brantl was born June 13, 1986 at Breckenridge, MN, the son of Daniel and Brenda Brantl. His family lived at Wahpeton, and Enderlin, before coming to Valley City. Matt attended Jefferson Elementary and St. Catherine’s Elementary Schools. He then attended Valley City High School and graduated in 2005. He was currently employed by Bridgetown Imprints as a graphic designer. He enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, fishing and drawing. He loved to go cruising or just hang out with his friends.
Matt is survived by his mother Brenda (Jim Veach), Valley City; his father, Daniel (Kathy) Brantl, Lisbon; a brother, Jim Brantl, Valley City; a sister, Danielle Brantl, Valley City; a step-sister, Shannon Brown, Jamestown; a step-brother, Justin Olson, West Fargo; grandparents, Willie and Betty Dallmann, Valley City, and Teresa Brantl, Breckenridge, MN; and a great-grandmother, Meilta Dallmann, Valley City. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather.
Kenneth A. Krentz
Funeral services for Kenneth A. Krentz, 79, Lisbon, were held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Anselm Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mike Toomey officiating. Mr. Krentz died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Four Seasons Health Care, Forman.
Kenneth A. Krentz was born April 30, 1926 in Anselm, the son of John Samuel and Gertrude (Buss) Krentz. He attended Buttzville grade school and graduated from Lisbon High School.
On August 30, 1966, he married
Nettie Frigen, in Milnor. They farmed near Lisbon. He attended Anselm Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lisbon.
He is survived by a son, Argil, Lisbon; a daughter, Judy (Mike) Miller, Alden, IA.; one grandchild; a brother, Russell, Balfour, Mich.; two sisters, Marlys Faller, Lisbon, and Elaine Tang, Verona. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin, Martin, Murl and Charles, and a sister, Pearl Anderson.
Pallbearers were Argil Froemke, Kim Froemke, Mark Bartle, Dick Elijah, Charles Bjugstad and Bruce Froemke.
Music was provided by organist Janet Froemke.
Interment at Anselm Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lisbon.

Lillian E. Carlson
Funeral services for Lillian E. Carlson, 93, Moorhead, MN, were held Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Mrs. Carlson died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Lillian Elizabeth Hoganson, the daughter of Nels and Hulda Hoganson, was born April 3, 1912, in Ransom County near Lisbon. She was baptized and confirmed at White Stone Hill Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1930. Lillian was employed by MeritCare Hospital.
On September 30, 1934, she married
Delmar Carlson in Moorhead. They lived in West Fargo, Fargo, Fergus Falls, MN, and Moorhead during their married
life.
She is survived by two daughters, Arla Mae (Louie) Hagen, Moorhead, and Mary Jane (Kenneth) Ranum, Theif River Falls, MN; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law JoAnne Carlson, Audubon, MN, and Lorraine Carlson, Mandan, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband Delmar; sons Duane and Harris; her parents; five brothers and three sisters.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

Ludvig Philip Hoffert
Funeral Mass for Ludvig Philip Hoffert, 87, Rugby, ND, was held Monday, January 23, 2006 at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby, with Father Kevin Boucher, Celebrant. Mr. Hoffert died Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Harold S. Haaland Home, Rugby.
Ludvig Philip Hoffert, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Keller) Hoffert, was born in the home of his parents in Elverum Township, Pierce County, ND on July 20, 1918. He graduated from Silva High School in 1938.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 9, 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Campbell in Fort Knox, KY. He served as a radio operator during World War II and took part in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe with the Calvary unit of the 20th Armored Division. He was honorably discharged from active duty on November 17, 1945.
On November 6, 1943, he married
Johanna Duchscher at Fort Thomas, KY. Following Ludvig’s service, he and Johanna farmed in Benson County, near Fillmore. The couple retired to Rugby in 1982. Johanna died March 31, 2005.
Ludvig was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, the John F. Kennedy #0786 Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Clarence E. Larson Post #23 of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, all of Rugby. He had served on the Fillmore Elevator Board and the Iowa Township and School Boards.
He is survived by three sons, Ken (Ardyce) Bismarck, Jim (Debora), Rugby, and Mark (Susan), Fillmore; five daughters, Geri (Wes) Weeding, West Fargo, Gloria (Robert) Larson, Kathryn, Luci (Terry) Vandal, Garrison, Cheryl (Mike) Hahn, Grand Forks and Kristie (Tom) Schrader, Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada; 24 grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tony and Pius, Rugby, and Philip, Los Angeles, CA; three sisters, Margaret Heilman and Rose Hager, Rugby, and Barbara Piatz, Devils Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Pete; one sister, Mary Duchscher; and his parents.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Hoffert, Philip Hoffert, Ryan Hoffert, Adam Hoffert, Brian Larson, Chris Larson, Jared Hahn and Chris Schrader. Honorary pallbearers were Andrea Hynek, Karla Weeding, Rebecca Frizler, Jenny Hahn, Bridget Hoffert, Pamela Martin, Lindsey Vandal, Alesha Vandal, Valerie Espeseth, Veronica Sanford, Rachel Hoffert, Laura Schrader, Denise Hoffert-Hay, Nicole Larson, Jessica Hoffert and Kayla Vangsness.
Music was provided by organist Glenda Mack and vocal leaders and cantors: Jim Hoffert, Geri Weeding, Cheryl Hahn, Lois Clark and John Duschscher.
Religious Honor Guard provided by The John F. Kennedy #0786 Assembly of the 4th Degree - Knights of Columbus.
Interment with military honors provided by the Clarence E. Larson American Legion Post #23.

Faye Litch
Memorial services for Faye Litch, 74, Forman, was held Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cogswell, with Rev. Steve Olson officiating. Mrs. Litch died Friday, January 20, 2006 at Four Seasons Healthcare, Forman.
Ida Faye Swanson, the daughter of Clarence Roy and Minnie Ann (Fuqua) Swanson, was born August 24, 1932, at Woodward, OK. She attended elementary at Woodward. The family moved to Dickey County where Faye continued her education at Riverdale School near Oakes. She graduated from Oakes High School in 1950.
She was married
to Clayton Litch from 1951 to 1985. The family lived in various places, but primarily in the Marshall County and Day County, SD areas. She sold Avon products for 14 years. She worked at the Dakotah Company in Webster for ten years in the quilt assembly production line. Later in life, Faye worked as a Certified Nurses Aid for both the Strand-Kjorsvig Nursing Home in Roslyn, and the Bethesda Home in Webster.
Faye moved to Gwinner in 1996, and moved to the Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman in September of 1998, where she has lived since.
Faye was a member of the Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont, SD, and the Ladies Aide. She also helped care for the church cemetery.
She is survived by four children: Kathryn (Daryl) Sundermyer, Andover, SD, Karla (Ed) Juran, Cogswell, Mikel (Gail) Litch, Gwinner, and Kari (LaVern) Lee, South Shore, SD; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Geddes, Oklahoma City, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Clarence Swanson, and two sisters, Inez Swanson and Helen Broniman White.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren: Marc Sundermeyer, Michele Kramer, Marisa Sundermeyer, Troy Juran, Travis Juran, Tessa Juran, Kelly Litch, Joseph Litch, Kristopher Sikkink, Karin Sikkink, Katina Lee and Krystal Lee.
Music was provided by Judy Ringdahl, organist, and Tami Juran and Terry Price, vocalists.

Clayton L. Ternquist
Funeral services for Clayton L. Ternquist, 81, Michigan, ND, were held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Dahlen Lutheran Church, Dahlen, ND. Rev. Gary Knabe officiated. Mr. Ternquist died Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center, Lakota, ND.
Clayton LuVern Ternquist, son of Alex and Edith (Rudgren) Ternquist, was born March 8, 1924 at Lowry, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Rudser Lutheran Church, rural Zahl, ND. He graduated from high school in Grenora, ND and later attended Hanson Auto School in Fargo. From 1945 to 1946, he served in the United States Marine Corps, and after his honorable discharge, he returned to farm with his family.
On June 16, 1953, he married
Evelyn Bertelsen at Emmaus Lutheran Church, rural Westby, MT. In 1959, they purchased a farm and moved to Dahlen. Clayton was active in community affairs. He was a member of Dahlen Lutheran Church, the John Larson American Legion Post #246 of Petersburg, Petersburg Lions Club, Dahlen Development Corporation, Nelson County Fair Board, Whitman Wildlife Club, a charter member of Petersburg Curling Club, and also served as a supervisor with the Nelson County Soil Conservation District. After retiring from farming, Clayton and Evelyn enjoyed spending the winter months in Mesa, AZ. In 1990, they moved to Michigan, ND. In October 2002, Clayton became a resident of the Lakota Good Samaritan Center.
He is survived by wife Evelyn, Michigan; son Allen (Lori), Michigan; three daughters, Vicki (Mike) Yoney, Petersburg, ND, Faye (Tim) Huether, Lisbon, and Jeanine Smestad, Fordville, ND; eight grandchildren; one sister, DeLaine Rude, Williston, ND, and one sister-in-law, Mary Ternquist, Williston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arnett and Arvie, and two sisters, DeLilah Buckelew and Hildred Ternquist.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Andrew Ternquist, Megan Ternquist, Brandon Smedtad, Nicholas Smestad, Breanne Huether, Kyle Huether, Dustin Yoney, and Emily Yoney. Honorary bearers were Wayne Swendseid, Harold Jallo, Omer Ellingson, Oliver Johnson, Gilmen Northagen, and Rolf Erickson.
Music was provided by organist Marlys Hoverson and soloist Leon Fjestad, accompanied by Avis Fjestad..
Military honors were provided by the John Larson American Legion Post #246 of Petersburg.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dahlen.
