Corwin Earl Waswick
Corwin Waswick, 43, was born on November 3, 1962 in Minneapolis, MN and was called home to be with God on May 3, 2006 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Corwin, son of Harold and Geneva (Kirsch) Waswick, grew up in Stirum, ND and moved to Gwinner in 1973. He graduated from North Sargent High School in Gwinner in 1981 as Salutatorian and from NDSU in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Julie Lyn McDaniel on June 22, 1991 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, ND. Their daughter, Olivia Ann, was born in Fargo on April 14, 1999 and was the joy of his life.
Cor began his career at Bobcat/Clark Equipment Company in May 1986 as a Test Engineer. In July 1990, he moved to Columbus, IN, to work for Cummins Engine Company as a Research & Development Engineer. In January 1996, he resumed work at Bobcat/Ingersoll-Rand Company in Test Engineering and as a Senior Design Engineer in 2000 in the Attachments Plus Program. In May 2004, he became the Prototype Engineer Shop Manager for both Gwinner and Bismarck locations.
Corwin loved to fly his airplanes and spend time with friends. He was the Gwinner Airport Authority Chairman and Manager from 1996-2006 and was instrument flight certified. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Society of Automotive Engineers. He was also a member of the Wild Rice Antique Tractor Club & Plowing Assoc., Cogswell Gun Club Trap League, Capital City Gun Club Summer League in Bismarck, Western Minn Steam Threshers Reunion of Rollag, MN and a past volunteer fireman in Gwinner. He served on the Gwinner City Council from 2000-2004 and was instrumental in the building of the Activity Center in Gwinner and the municipal airport hangar currently under construction.
Cor had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Gustaf Adolph (GA) Lutheran Church in Gwinner. He was baptized on Dec 16, 1962 at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere, ND and confirmed on April 3, 1977 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gwinner.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, and daughter, Olivia, Gwinner; parents: Harold and Geneva Waswick, Gwinner; two brothers: Jerry (Tracey), Gwinner and Jim (Robin), Coopersville, MI; sister: Cheryl, Fargo; grandmother: Florence Kirsch, Lisbon; six nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by an infant nephew and grandparents: Alvin Kirsch, Lisbon and Earl and Jeannette Waswick, Wyndmere.
Even though his life was short, his impact to those around him will be long. He will live in our hearts forever.
At the request of friends, a college fund has been set up for Olivia at Sargent County Bank, PO Box 26, Gwinner, ND 58040 or memorials may be sent to the National Brain Tumor Foundation [www.braintumor. org].
Visitation was held Friday, May 5 from 1-3 pm at Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon, and 5-7 pm at GA Lutheran Church in Gwinner followed by a 7 pm Prayer Service. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6 at 10:30 am at GA Lutheran Church, Gwinner, with a 2 pm burial at Dick Cemetery, rural Englevale.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel, soloist Marissa Diggs, and accompanist Marlene Dahl

Walter Piehl
Walter Piehl, Sr., age 90, of Marion, ND, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Trinity Hospital, Minot, ND. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2, at the North Marion Reformed Church near Marion, with Rev. Paul Peterson officiating. Interment will be in North Marion Reformed Cemetery near Marion.
Walter was born July 23, 1915 in the family home at rural Marion to John and Fern (Mart) Piehl. Walter was raised on the farm near Marion and received his education at Marion Public School. As a teenager, he began farming with his father and brothers.
He married Hattie DeVries on October 12, 1939 at the DeVries family farm in Meadow Lake Township, Marion, ND. They were married 66 years and lived in the Marion community until his passing.
Walter was a member of the North Marion Reformed Church, Marion, for over 66 years. He farmed and ranched at Marion for over 76 years and was an active member of the Marion community. Over the years, he had many supplemental occupations - cream station operator, roller skating concessionaire, building mover, gravel hauling, auctioneer, referee for basketball, livestock trucker, livestock and trailer dealer, rodeo producer and stock contractor. He enjoyed music, especially listening to Hattie play the piano, working with his horses and driving various teams of black Percheron draft horses. He loved his family and received great pleasure from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie, sons Walter (Becky), Minot, Steve (Valerie), Newbury Park, CA; daughter Fern (Allen), Minot; nine grandchildren: Jason (Tori) Olson, Shadd (Marnie) Piehl, Levi (Michelle) Piehl, Melissa (Monte) Avery, Jarrod (Missy) Olson, Crystal Piehl, Amber Piehl, Dahcota Quick and April Piehl; seven great-grandchildren: Bailey Olson, Aaron Jones, Sage Quick, Owen Piehl, Madeline Olson, Wyatt and Ryder Piehl; one brother Howard (Eleanor) Piehl, Bismarck; one sister Yvonne (Erling) Holm, Romulus, MI; two sisters-in-law Harriett Piehl, Brainerd, MN, and Pat Piehl, Valley City; and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, John and Fern Piehl, brothers, Harold, Roger and Donald and two granddaughters, Melinda and Michella Olson.
Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City was in charge of arrangements.

Lyle C. Stram
On April 22, 2006 at 5:48 p.m. in Rio Grande Regional Hospital, McAllen, Texas, Lyle Clark Stram, 73, Pharr, Texas, took his Lord and Savior’s hand and entered eternal rest.
Lyle was born November 10, 1932 in Rutland, North Dakota to Emil (Mike) and Hazel (Hopewell) Stram. He was the 7th of 12 children. Later the family moved to Fort Ransom and Lisbon, North Dakota.
Lyle graduated from Lisbon High School in 1953 and worked at the Lisbon Creamery.
He served in the United States Army 1953-1955.
He married Eloise (Anderson) Stram of Enderlin, North Dakota on November 27, 1955. They moved to Long Beach, California where he was employed by Farmers Brothers Coffee and two of their children, David and Tess were born. In 1959 they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where their son, Gary, was born.
Lyle worked for E. F. Houghton and Blake Schools of Hopkins, Minnesota. Lyle and Eloise built a home on Lake Marie, South Haven, Minnesota and lived there for 15 years before moving to Pharr Texas. Lyle enjoyed wood carving, bowling, watching his children and grandchildren enjoy the lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Leona and 6 brothers, Maurice, Max, Frances, Clyde, Wayne and Richard.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Eloise, his three children David, Tess (Dane) Stavlo and Gary. Five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jesse, and Jackie Stavlo, Troy and Alesha Stram.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Manos Extendidas (Hands Extended).
Memorial Service will be held at Fort Snelling Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 Minneapolis, Minnesota. Interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.

Ruth Grady
Ruth Elaine (Leist) Grady, 78, of Moorhead, MN, died peacefully in her home on May 1, 2006, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born on July 20, 1927 in Lisbon, ND, the daughter of Clifford and Pearl (Brunton) Leist. She grew up and attended school in Lisbon. She married Tom Grady on January 16, 1971 in Dilworth, MN.
Ruth was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Moorhead Thrift Store for over 20 years. In her leisure time Ruth enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Tom Grady, Moorhead; five children, Diane Anderson, Moorhead, Brian (Brenda) Anderson, Peggy Baumgart, Vicki (Norm) Hansen, all of Lisbon, ND, Debbi (Tom) Paschke, Moorhead; her mother Pearl Leist, Lisbon, ND; three sisters, Jean Fillmore, Grand Forks, ND, Marie (Sid) Parkers, Seattle, WA, Kaye (Jim) Martin, Albuquerque, NM; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by two sons, Bertram Leroy Anderson Jr. (Butchie) and Steven Dale Anderson; her father Clifford Leist; and a sister Marilyn Beich.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Jeffrey L. Fluto
Funeral services for Jeffrey L. Fluto, 50, Lisbon, ND, were held Friday, May 5, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Rev. John Anderson officiated. Mr. Fluto died Monday, May 1, at Lisbon Area Health Services.
Jeffrey L. Fluto, son of Richard A. and Donna (Hruza) Fluto, was born June 26, 1955 at Breckenridge, MN. He attended Wyndmere School. He attended one year at North Dakota State College of Science.
On June 20, 1981, he married LuAnn Fredrickson in Lisbon. Jeff worked at Lisbon Implement until 1982. He worked at Gwinner Farmers Elevator until 2005 when he began working at ADM of Enderlin. He was active in the men’s club of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Fluto, Lisbon; his wife, LuAnn Fluto, Lisbon; two daughters, Sarah, Mankato, MN and Sadie, Lisbon, and two sisters, Sandy (Rodney) Asche, Gwinner and Janice (Paul) Manske, Lisbon.
Pallbearers were Paul Manske, Rod Asche, Grady Wall, Marshal Kath, Joe Howell, Chris Howell, and Matt Howell.
Music was provided by organist Mary Jo Smith and soloist Peggy Larson.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Lenore M. Haggart
Funeral services for Lenore M. Haggart, 82, Enderlin, ND, formerly Lisbon, ND, were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN. Mrs. Haggart died Sunday, April 30 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Lenore M. (Stitz) Haggart, daughter of Leonard and Theresa (Matheson) Stitz, was born January 12, 1924 in Redwood Falls, MN. She grew up in the Wahpeton, ND, area and received her education in Wahpeton schools, graduating with the class of 1942.
On July 31, 1948, she married Donald Daniel Haggart in Moorhead, following his return from the U.S. Navy and World War II. They lived most of their years in the Fargo, ND area.
For the last two and a half years, Lenore lived with her son, Stanley, in Lisbon.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, Fargo; three children, Laura Kay (Stephen) Johnson, West Fargo, Stanley Haggart, Lisbon, and Linda (Steve) Smit, North St. Paul, MN; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Neumann
Funeral services for Evelyn Neumann, 88, Maddock, ND, were held Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Pastor Allen Campbell officiated. Mrs. Neumann died Thursday, April 27, at Trinity Medical Center, Minot, ND.
Evelyn Peterson, daughter of Ole and Carla Peterson, was born March 19, 1918 on a farm near Hastings, ND. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1935. She received her two-year standard certificate from Valley City State Teachers’ College in 1937. She taught in a one-room rural school, #84, near Litchville, ND, and then in Kathryn, ND.
On September 17, 1944, she married Dr. Alvin W. Neumann in Hastings. They lived in various locations while Alvin was in the U.S. Army, and then settled in Maddock, where she was a homemaker and also taught school.
Evelyn was active in community and church activities, including Homemakers, circle, a bowling league, and golf. She was a member of North Viking Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four children, Carol (David) Svingen, Luverne, MN, Karen (Dan) Birkeland, Sheyenne, ND, James (Darcy) Neumann, Fargo, and Rachel (Dean) Markestad, Maddock; four brothers, LeRoy (Ida) Peterson, Seattle, WA, Harvey (Blanche) Peterson, Andover, MN, Morris (Ruth) Peterson and Clinton (Lois) Peterson, both of Kathryn, and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; one brother, Reynold, and a sister-in-law, Erma.
Pallbearers were Nathan and Erika Svingen, Mark and Colin Birkeland, Evan, Erin and Ethan Markestad, and Braeden Neumann.
Music was provided by organist Jennifer Hagen and vocalists Lanny and Lisa Faleide.
Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock, was in charge of arrangements.
