Benjamin Rott
The funeral service for Benjamin Rott, 86, of Leola, was held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Leola with Pastor Don Peck officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Rott died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
Benjamin Rott was born Sept. 18, 1915, at Fredonia, ND, to Jacob and Christina (Schaffer) Rott. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. He married
Lillian Joachim Oct. 13, 1935, at the Evangelical United Brethern Church, rural Eureka, SD. They lived in Ashley, ND, until 1941 when they moved to Leola, SD. He farmed in Leola until he retired.
He was a member of the Leola United Methodist Church, school board representative, Better Leola Club and the Leola Country Club, 4-H leader and International Harvester Implement Dealer. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of Leola; one son, Earl (Sylvia) Rott, Leola, SD; three daughters, Sylvia Arioso, Leola, SD, Cynthia Schock, Aberdeen, SD, Monica (Roy) Meyer, Leola, SD; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister and one great-granddaughter.
Casketbearers were Bryant Arioso, Ben Arioso, Todd Schock, Kalie Rott, Tarri Rott Jamie Rott, Travis Rott and Tyson Meyer.
Ludwina Feist
Ludwina Marie Feist, 97, was born Oct. 12, 1904, on a farm near Artas, SD, to Martin and Elizabeth (Geffre) Nolz. She attended rural school. She married
Frank J. Feist at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Zeeland, ND, June 18, 1935. He died July 11, 1996. In the fall of 1996, Ludwina moved to Wisconsin to live with her daughters.
She was a member of Zeeland Homemakers for over 50 years, a member of Christian Mothers and a 4-H leader for many years. Ludwina played organ for over 60 years and taught CCD classes. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for weddings and making wedding cakes. She died Dec. 29, 2001, in Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, Burlington, WI. Grateful to have shared her life are one son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Kay Feist of Great Falls, MT, two daughters, Carol Feist and Mary Jane Feist, both of Burlington, WI, two grandchildren, Laura and Michael, one great-grandchild, Saville Feist, one brother, Pius Nolz of Zeeland and one sister, Martha Marek of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank J. in 1996, two sisters, Katherine Senger and Helen Welder and three brothers, Andrew, Adam and Phillip Nolz.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Zeeland with Rev. John Lewandowski officiating. Burial was at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery
under the direction of Myers Funeral Home of Linton, ND. Honorary casket bearers were Mark Walz, Daniel Klein, Sr., Peter Welder and Joseph Meier. Casket bearers were Jason Wolf, Raymond Wolf, Joel Welder, Daniel Welder, Wayne Lacher and Daniel Klein, Jr. Gift bearers were Helen Wolf and Rickey Senger. Organist was Deanna Aberle.
Ardell Retzlaff
Ardell E. Retzlaff, Sr., age 61, of Kulm, ND, died Saturday, January 5, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2001 at 1:30 PM at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home Chapel in Kulm with Reverend Dave Stuart officiating.
Ardell Eugene Retzlaff, the son of Arthur and Irene (Isaak) Retzlaff, was born May 12, 1940 in Aberdeen, SD. Ardell grew up and attended rural school near Kulm, ND. He then attended an academy school in Lincoln, Nebraska for a time. Ardell then worked for a road construction firm in Rapid City, SD. On June 20, 1964 he married
Leila Kramlich at the Methodist Church in Kulm, ND. Ardell then began farming in the Kulm, ND area and also drove school bus for many years until 1993 when he retired from farming due to an illness. Ardell was a member of the Kulm Lions Club, The Kulm JC’s, and also the Kulm Rod and Gun Club.
Ardell enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his shop, snowmobiling, hunting, raising Pheasants for the Game and Fish Dept, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ardell is survived by his six children, Leila Jo (Jack) Brandenburger, Rosholt, SD, Ardell Jr., (Penny) Retzlaff, Jamestown, ND, Kelly (Tanya) Retzlaff, Jamestown, ND, Marcia (Todd) King, Ellendale, ND, Yvette (Anthony) Strollo, Brooksville, FL and Tisha Retzlaff, Brooksville, FL; his mother, Irene Retzlaff, Minneapolis, MN; three sisters, Beverly Retzlaff, LaVonne Retzlaff and Betty Betsch; one brother, Curtis Retzlaff; seven grandchildren, Michelle and Melissa Brandenburger, Tiffany, Andrew, Victoria and Timothy Retzlaff and Nickolas Strollo. His father and grandparents preceded Ardell in death. Funeral arrangements by the Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Kulm, ND.
Alvin E. Hehr
Alvin E. Hehr 67, Colorado Springs, Co. died of cancer Dec. 30, 2001 in Colorado Springs hospital. Mr. Hehr was born Feb. 4, 1934 in Fredonia, N.D. the son of Emil and Emma Buerkle Hehr . He married
Betty Lo Stoecker of Hosmer, S.D. in 1966. He served in the U.S. army in Korea. After his discharge, he farmed and started his own well drilling business, digging many wells in North Dakota for many farmers. He then moved to Kansas where he worked for various drilling companies, later moving to Anaconda, N.M. When the company closed he began driving truck for Martin company in Colorado for 10 years. He retired in February 1999 due to injury on the job.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Chaison, a daughter Dawn Hehr, Colorado Springs, three sisters, Lucille Kennedy, Jamestown, Euella Wolf, Fredonia and Diane Hehr, Monticello, Minn, five brothers; Lester [Arlene], and LeRoy [Betty], Fredonia, N.D. Thilmer, Sacramento, Calif., Larry [Maureen], Colorado Springs, and Donald [Judy] Miramar, Fla. and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dillard, in 1997. Services were held Jan. 1, at Mountain View Mortuary Chapel, in Colorado Springs.
A memorial service will be held in Fredonia in the spring.
Walter Schnabel
Funeral services for Walter Schnabel, 75, Ashley, were held Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with Rev. Jeff Giles officiating. He died Jan. 21 at a Fargo hospital.
Walter Schnabel, son of Adam and Lydia (Weisenberger) Schnabel was born April 16, 1926, southeast of Venturia. He was raised on the family homestead near Venturia. He attended country school and worked on the family farm. He also did odd jobs for others.
Walter married
Frieda Kost on June 20, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. He became employed with Ehley & Frisch, driving gravel trucks and heavy equipment. Later, he owned his own gravel trucks for several years. Walter then went to work for the McIntosh County road crew for several years before retiring. He enjoyed social trips to area casinos with his friends.
Walter was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Ashley and a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Wishek.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda, of Ashley; a son, Kenneth (Laurie) Schnabel of West Fargo; two brothers, Edmund Schnabel of Bismarck and Lawrence (Janice) Schnabel of Ashley; three sisters, Anna Rott and Emilia (John) Lippert, both of Ashley and Bertha Spitzer of Bismarck; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Marzolf; a twin sister in infancy; and an older brother in infancy.
Casketbearers were Milbert Schnabel, Charles Rott, Wayne Lippert, Ron Kost, Allen Kost and Dennis Schnabel of Mobridge.
The organist was Elsie Sackmann, and the soloist was Kathy Fynboh.
The family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 Roberts St., Fargo, ND 58501 or the American Heart Association, 1005 12th Ave. SE, Jamestown, ND 58401.
Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley was in charge of arrangements.
Marie Radermacher
Marie Radermacher, 86, Monango, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Her funeral service was held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley.
Interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
Marie Johanna Broerman was born December 3, 1921 in Melrose, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Mary (Klonne) Broerman. She was raised on the family farm near Melrose and attended school in Sauk Centre, Minn.
After her schooling, she worked on the family farm. On June 10, 1943, she married
Sylvester Radermacher and they settled on a farm east of Sauk Centre. In 1957, they purchased a farm near Monango, where she continued to live until the present.
Alvin Heinrich
Aberdeen, S.D. - Funeral service for Alvin O. Heinrich, 79, of Aberdeen and formerly of Ashley, ND will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.
Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery
in Dickey County, N.D.
There will be a prayer service Tuesday at 7:00 pm at Carlsen Funeral Home at Ashley. Visitation will be Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory at Aberdeen from 9-11 am and in Ashley from 3-7pm at the funeral home.
He died May 4, 2008 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
Rudolph Heyd
Hosmer, S.D. - Funeral service for Rudolph Heyd, 93 years, 6 months and 21 days of age, of Hosmer and formerly of Long Lake, S.D., were at 10:00 am, Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Long Lake.
The Rev. Erik Swanson officiated. Burial was at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
He died October 3, 2007 at Hosmer Senior Citizen Home.
Rudolph Heyd, son of John D. and Eva (Geinger) Heyd was born March 12, 1914 on the family homestead in Bergdorf Township near Long Lake in McPherson County, SD.
