Ross Meidinger
Ross Patrick Meidinger, 17, Marion, died Thursday, August 2, 2007, from injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident near Marion.
Ross was born Feb. 28, 1990 in Valley City, the son of Randy and Vickie (Smedshammer) Meidinger. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Litchville. Ross attended elementary and high school at Litchville-Marion and was going to be a high school junior. This summer, he worked for the LaMoure County Highway Department
Ross is survived by his parents, Randy & Vickie Meidinger of Marion; two sisters, Katherine (Michael) Kalcevic, Baltimore, MD and Randa Meidinger, Marion; maternal grandparents, Curtis & Phyllis Smedshammer, LaMoure; paternal grandmother, Caroline Meidinger, Ashley; his godparents, David Bollinger, Lehr, and Bradley and VaNita Rodin, Marion, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gina Merkel
Gina Kay Merkel, age 46, of Bismarck, N.D., died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
Gina Kay Merkel was born June 30, 1960 in Bismarck, the daughter of Engelbert and Marian (Keller) Miller. Gina was raised in Mandan, North Dakota and graduated from Mandan High School in 1979.
She lived at home with her family when she met her future husband Tim Merkel. On August 9, 1986 Gina and Tim were married.
Gina was employed with St. Alexius Medical Center, for a time, during which, she received the Employee of the Month honor. After leaving St. A’s, Gina worked at RTJ’s Sav-way Foods. Most recently, Gina was a stay-at-home mom.
Gina’s selfless personality and wonderful sense of humor made her a loving wife, mother and friend. People who met her were instantly drawn to her because of her generous demeanor.
Gina was known for her wonderful german-style cooking, which her family and friends greatly enjoyed.
Gina’s cheerful, outgoing and positive attitude will always be missed by her husband, Tim; her daughter, Shaina; her son, Levon; her mother-in-law, Phyllis Golz of Jamestown; sister and brother-in-law, Marla (Dale) Zimmerman of Washburn; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mark (Jodene), Kevin and Allen, all of Bismarck, Harlon (Sue) of Hawaii and brother-in-law, Michael Merkel of Mandan, and three nephews, Mathew Zimmerman, Ron Michael Miller and Justin Miller.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Lester Haas
Ashley, N.D. - The funeral service for Lester Alan Haas, 62, of Ashley was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church at Ashley. Military Honor Guard was by the Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. The Rev. Kyle Reinhiller officiated.
Burial was Monday, January 29, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with The Rev. Ross Reinhiller officiating.
He died January 22, 2007 at his home.
Lester Alan Haas, son of Alan and Ruth (Bertsch) Haas was born December 11, 1944 at Eureka, S.D. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Venturia. He graduated from Ashley High School with the Class of 1962. He then attended the University of North Dakota at Ellendale earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in History with a minor in Music. In 1966, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. Following his honorable discharge in August of 1968, he returned to North Dakota.
He was united in marriage to Marvel Emma Dalke on June 7, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. They made their home in Bismarck for one year while Marvel attended hairstyling college. They then returned to Ashley where Lester taught school for four years. The call of farming was to be his life’s work as he then took over the operation of the family farm.
Lester enjoyed following politics and watching CNN. He collected antique tractors. He also made sure he traded cars every couple of years.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Ashley Community Quartet and a past Ashley Public School Bus Driver and past Executive Director of Ashley Housing Authority.
Survivors include his wife of Ashley, his parents of Ashley, one daughter, Lisa (Lyle) Miller of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, three sons, Corey (Erin) Haas of Jamestown and Bradley Haas and Justin Haas, both of Fargo, one sister, Candace (Darvin) Fischer of Ashley and one granddaughter, Kristin Haas.
Honorary Casketbearers were members and spouses of the Ashley Community Quartet, Oscar (Joan) Rau, Adolph (Doreen) Rueb, Milbert (Lavilla) Dollinger and Jim (Donna) Heupel.
Casketbearers were Rory Fischer, Eric Krueger, Jerry Steinmetz, Gary G. Hoffman, Tim Joachim and Jeremy St. Aubin.
The organist was Marcia Davis and the Ashley Community Quartet sang.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley was entrusted with arrangements.
Morris Bauer
Morris Bauer, 69, McClusky, passed away Dec. 3, 2006, at his home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Burial was at McClusky City Cemetery.
Morris was born May 31, 1937, in McClusky, the son of Sam and Maggie (Faul) Bauer. He grew up and attended rural school in LaMont Township, southeast of McClusky. As a young man, he worked as a farm laborer for Lloyd Bauer. He then began working for Lindteigen Construction out of Turtle Lake until becoming disabled in 1992. He continued living in McClusky where he enjoyed fishing, bowling, making sausage, playing his guitar and driving his golf cart around town.
Morris is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Shirley Bauer, Ashley; his sister, Shirley Bauer, Bismarck; and two nieces, Deb Shipman, Bismarck and Georgia Kretschmar, Pierz, Minn.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)
Andy Kramer
Andrew "Andy" Kramer, 79, Raytown, Mo., died Dec. 4, 2006. Memorial services will be held 2PM, Thurs, Dec. 7, 2006 at Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice.
Andy was born to Karl and Emilia Kramer on May 15, 1927 in Ashley. He was an Army Korean War Veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Andy is survived by: wife, Eleanor; son, George; daughter, Kathy; and grandchildren, Travis and Jenna; and a sister and brother.
Shirley Batcheller
Mobridge, S.D. - Funeral services for Shirley Batcheller, 71, of Mobridge, were held Friday, August 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial was held in Greenwood Cemetery
under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Mrs. Batcheller passed away Aug. 14, 2006 at Mobridge Regional Hospital. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1953 and was the daughter of Wm. and Anna (Krause) Dobler of Ashley.
Edwin Glaesman
Ashley, N.D. - The funeral service for Edwin J. Glaesmann, 87, of Ashley and formerly of Ipswich, S.D. was Friday, August 18, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Lloyd Miller officiated.
Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery
at Ashley.
He died August 14, 2006 at the Ashley Medical Center.
Edwin J. Glaesmann, son of John and Mary (Stern) Glaesmann was born October 8, 1918 south of Ashley. He attended rural school in the Kisslingberry District. In 1938, he moved to Jamestown.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Janke on March 10, 1940. He farmed in the Ashley area. In 1945, he operated an auto repair shop and in January of 1954, he purchased the Kelber Store building where he continued doing business under the name of Ed’s Repair Shop. In 1973, he purchased the Ashley TV Center. He gradually phased out his auto repair business and operated exclusively in the electronic field.
Being a man of many talents, he became interested in aviation. He purchased an airplane in 1950 and proceeded to take flying lessons. In 1951, he earned his private pilot license. He saw the need for aerial crop spraying and charter passenger service. He then took the training to obtain his commercial license. He was a very proficient pilot. In 1956, he began his aerial crop spraying business and also provided air ambulance service. He had 39 years of flying time and 34 years of crop spraying. In 1990, he retired from flying. In 1995, he retired from his electronic business and moved to Ipswich.
He was then united in marriage to Darlene Morris on December 10, 1995. They made their home in Ipswich. He moved back to Ashley and entered the Ashley Nursing Home in April of 2005.
Edwin liked music and playing the accordion and piano. His work was very important to him and he found great satisfaction from working.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of the Ashley Chamber and was an original member of the Ashley German Band.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of Ipswich, two daughters, Betty Waliser of Albany, Oregon and Linda (Ivan) Knoblich of Lehr, two sons, Larry Glaesmann and Steven Glaesmann, both of Ashley, one brother, Willis (Irene) Glassmann of Aberdeen, two sisters, Ida Feil of Redmond, Oregon and Viola (Alvin) Heinrich of Aberdeen, ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
His parents, one son, Keith (July 23, 1974), two brothers, Wilmar and Herbert and two sisters, Ella and Irma preceded him in death.
Casketbearers were Paul Waliser, Eric Glaesmann, Clayton Heinrich, Leslie Feil, Terry Ulrich and Stanton Spitzer.
The organist was Karen Himmerich, the soloist is Terry Ulrich and the Sextet will also provide special music.
