John Giedt
Tulsa, OK - Funeral service for John Lewis Giedt, 48, of Tulsa will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Fred Henkelmann will officiate.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery
at Ashley.
Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He died January 27, 2006 suddenly at his home in Tulsa.
John Lewis Giedt, son of Raymond and Hulda (Schlabsz) Giedt was born December 19, 1957 at Ashley. He grew up in Ashley, where he attended Ashley Public School, graduating with the Class of 1976. He then attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. with a degree in accounting. He then moved to Tulsa.
He was united in marriage to Christine Antry in September of 2003 at Tulsa. He was currently employed by Rotational Technologies as their comptroller.
John loved all sporting events. He avidly followed the Oklahoma Sooners and didn’t miss a game the year Oklahoma won the National Football Championship. He enjoyed golfing with his friends in Ashley and Tulsa. His family has many fond memories of fishing together. Also, he was a Little League umpire for many years.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa.
Survivors include his mother of Ashley, one brother, Dr. Kenneth (Andrea) Giedt of Aberdeen and three nieces, Amy (Judson Bertsch) Giedt of Kansas City, Missouri, Katrina (Adam Crandall) Giedt-Crandall of New York City, New York and Margit (Brent) Craig of St. Louis, Missouri and one grandniece, Amelia Bertsch.
His paternal and maternal grandparents and father preceded him in death.
Honorary Casketbearers will be the Ashley High School Class of 1976 and his nieces, Amy, Katrina and Margit.
Casketbearers will be Dan Fagg, Mark Fagg, Charles Kraemer, Ron Litsey, Ross Litsey and Russell Lehr.
The organist will be Donna Heupel and the Zion Lutheran Men’s Quartet will perform.
The family prefers memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 257, Ashley, ND 58413-0257.

Calvin Opp
Eureka, S.D - Funeral Services for Calvin J. Opp, 91, of Eureka was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Eureka Reformed Church. The Rev. Herman Van Stedum officiated.
Burial was at the Eureka City Cemetery.
He died January 22, 2006 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.
Calvin J. Opp, son of John D. and Elizabeth (Neuharth) Opp was born November 8, 1914 on the family homestead 13 miles northeast of Eureka. He attended country school and worked on the family farm. During the summers in the 1930s he worked in Idaho and Washington as farm laborer.
He was united in marriage to Ella Fischer on September 27, 1940 in Rohrbach Reformed Church in Greenway, S.D. They made their home with his parents. In 1941, they started their own homestead a mile from his parent’s farm where they lived and farmed all their working life. His wife died in 1983. Calvin continued to farm until 1999 when he moved into Eureka. In January of 2005, he entered Avera Eureka Health Care Center.
Calvin enjoyed baseball and playing cards with his grandson.
He was a member of Eureka Reformed Church where he had been a board member for several years, also a past church board member of Glueckstal Reformed Church. He was also a former member of the Detmold School District.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen (John) Streifel of Eureka and Jean (Arlo) Bertsch of Bloomington, Minnesota, one brother Edmund (Hulda) Opp of Eureka, one sister, Elma (Don) Donahue of Richland, Washington and one grandson, Jayden Streifel.
His parents, wife, one daughter, Mary, seven brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
Casketbearers were Glenn Opp, Lewis Opp, Daniel Opp, Leroy Opp, Robert Opp and Wayne Fischer.
The organist was Sandra Clark.

Harvey Dale Rohrbach
Funeral service for Harvey Dale Rohrbach, 59, of Ashley was held at 11 am, Saturday, August 20, 2005 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles officiated.
Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery
with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53 at Ashley.
He died August 17, 2005 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
Harvey Dale Rohrbach, son of Edwin and Elizabeth (Humann) Rohrbach was born December 30, 1945 southeast of Ashley in McIntosh County. He started country school and graduated with the Class of 1963 from Ashley High School. He entered the United States Army on March 3, 1965 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged December 17, 1966. He returned to Ashley and farmed a short time with his parents. He then worked out of Bismarck working for a water tower company.
He was united in marriage to Linda Schauer on August 30, 1968 in Trinity Lutheran Church at Bismarck. They made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota where he worked as a welder at U.O.P. Johnson. In 1975, they returned to the family farm to take over the operation. In 1997, he retired due to poor health and in 2002, they moved into Ashley.
Harvey enjoyed farming and tinkering on the farm. He always liked to travel and spending time with his family was very important to him.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley.
Survivors include his wife of Ashley, two sons, Bryen (Cheryl) Rohrbach of Big Lake, MN and Daniel (Amy) Rohrbach of Ada, MN, one daughter, Tessa (David) Perchinsky of Whitewater, WI, two brothers, Curtis Rohrbach of Ashley and Ron Rohrbach of Ray, ND, two sisters, Dianna (Larry) Bahr of Garrison, ND and Shirley (Terry) Root of Tigard, OR and three grandchildren, Payton, Cade and Kylie Rohrbach.
His parents and one brother, Ricky preceded him in death.
Casketbearers were Marvin Fink, Harley Fink, Sanroe Fink, Gary G. Hoffman, Robert Kempf and Stanley Schnabel.
The organist was Steve Glaesmann and the soloist was Terry Ulrich.

Mack Phillip Thomas
(Chief Gray Eagle)
“Chief” passed away on August 17 at his home after a 5 1/2 year battle with kidney cancer. He was 67.
Chief was born April 8 1938, the first child to Johnson Bailey and Lillian Freeman Thomas and a descendent of the last Indian Warrior, Chief Chitto (Crazy Snake) Harjo and Lt. Col. Earnest Childres, the recipient of The Congressional Medal of Honor from WWII.
Mack began to play the pedal steel guitar at age 6. His family known as, The Thomas Indian Family, toured playing beautiful music. They produced three albums and performed on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Seattle World Fair, New York World Fair, Carnage Hall and the Grand Ole Opre. He did a lot of studio work; by himself, with his brother Riley and several musical groups and wrote and recorded many songs. A warrior until the end, Chief touched the souls of many. He was the first Native American to be inducted into the Dakota Music Hall of Fame in 1993. As an inventor he worked with Simi Mosley and they made the Mosrite guitar. He played background for the Adventurers in the early 60s. He also taught guitar to Barbara Mandrell.
In 1973 he married
Constance (Connie) Doerr. They bought a bus which became their home for two years as they toured and played with gospel groups including: The Statesmen Quartet, the Oak Ridge Boys, The Amigos and The Lundstrom Crusade Team.
Along with music, pipeline work was a big part of his life he operated heavy line equipment such as a sideboom. They moved to Alaska to work on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. After 10 years they moved back to CA for pipeline work and to play music. They eventually returned to Ashley, ND to be near his beloved in-laws, Walter and Viola Doerr. Later Mack, Connie and their son Justin traveled again, this time on pipeline jobs. He finished pipelining on the Alliance line in MN & ND and then making their home in Fargo.
Chief is proceeded in death by his parents and one sibling, Katie. He is survived by his wife, Constance; children, Deborah Andres of Seattle, WA, Kim Brown of Anchorage, AK, Johnson B. Thomas of San Clemente, CA, Shauna Thomas of Santa Ana, CA, Justin Thomas of Vancouver, WA; brothers, Riley Thomas of Merrieto, CA, John Thomas of Anaheim, CA; sisters, Moni Thomas of Riverside, CA, Kogie Thomas of Fullerton, CA, LaVona King of Anaheim, CA and Virginia Thomas of Okmulgee, OK; and aunt Katie Smith of Coweta, OK and uncle Robert Freeman of Okmulgee, OK, along with 7 wonderful grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mack was held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Minn.
