John P. Peffer
John P. Peffer, Jr. 60, Bismarck, ND, died on June 16, 2003 at his home surrounded by his family after a 2 year courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held 10:30 on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Fr. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery.
John was born in Lidgerwood, ND on February 28, 1943 to Louise and John Peffer, Sr. He grew up and was educated in Lidgerwood, graduated with a degree in Music Education from Dickinson State University and received his Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of North Dakota. He taught music as a band director at Mandan Junior and Senior High Schools. Highly respected and knowledgeable in his field, many bands under John’s direction received outstanding performance awards. He was recognized as Outstanding Young Educator in ND and was named in Who’s Who Among National Band Directors.
For the past 23 years, John was a prominent businessman in the automobile industry. He was recognized for his leadership, organizational abilities, hard work ethic, and integrity in his profession and personal life.
John was very active as a community leader in his earlier years. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, Elks and Legion of Leaders.
On December 27, 1965, he married
Marjorie Unruh at St. Joseph Church in Mandan. They had two children. John is survived by his wife, Marge, his daughter, Lori, Woodbury, MN, son, Terry and his wife, Nathalie, Woodbury, MN, his sister Carol and her husband, George Jagodzinski, Anoka, MN, three sisters-in-law, and his grand dog and comforter, Jazz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John J. Klein
An interment service for John J. Klein, 93, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., was held Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home chapel, Wishek, with Rev. Allen Finger officiating. He died Nov. 23 at his home in Santa Fe Springs. A funeral service was held Nov. 28 at Trinity Baptist Church in Downey, Calif., with Pastor Cleland officiating.
John J. Klein was born May 13, 1910 in Long Lake, S.D., the son of Jacob and Mary (Neuhardt) Klein. He lived, went to school and worked in the Danzig area with his family while he grew to manhood.
John married
Katie Miller in Venturia in 1933. They bought and farmed acreage near Ashley. To this union, four children were born. They were reared and educated on the farm. Winters were tough, farm work was hard, times were poor. The family worked together on the farm until 1955, when it was sold and they moved into Wishek. John was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for about 10 years. When Katie, his wife of 34 years fell ill and passed away in 1966, John moved to California, with his sons. John worked for Kirkhill as a rubber mold attendant. In November of 1968, he met and married
Edna Lynch. Together, they have worked and lived in Santa Fe Springs. With this union came an extended family, including step-daughter Beverly Tubbs, her husband and children.
John was a faithful member at Trinity Baptist Church in Downey, Calif. He enjoyed outside work, church work and making friends. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hearing about his great-great-grandchildren. John loved his Lord, he was a wonderful Christian man.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Edna, of Santa Fe Springs; sons, Harry (Gerri) Klein of Lakewood, Calif., Don (Nanc) Klein of Jackson, Tenn., daughters, Gladys (Joe) Herr of Union Gap, Wash., stepdaughter, Beverly (Wayne) Tubbs of Santa Fe Springs, and Marilyn Smith of Stanton, Calif.; a brother, Ed (Viola) Klein of West Fargo; two sisters, Maggie Bossert of West Fargo and Martha Smith of Martinez, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Delores Klein of San Jose, Calif., and Hilda Klein of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends, one being Joe Sanchez, who has been a gardner, painter, friend, caregiver and lifesaver to John and Edna.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Katie; two brothers, Jake and Gottlieb; two sisters, Mary Bader and Emma Bader; an infant brother, Albert, and an infant sister, Bertha.
Interment was in the Wishek City Cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Wishek was in charge of arrangements.
Penny Sorensen
Penny Sorensen, age 18, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN.
Penny Renee Sorensen was born Sept. 7, 1985, in Fargo, the daughter of Dave Sorensen and Lana Kay (Bendewald) Doll. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley, and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. Penny was a senior at Pelican Rapids High School where she was a cheerleader, active in the drama club and speech, and a teacher’s aide. She had a special interest in working with the handicapped. Penny worked at Larry’s Supermarket in Pelican Rapids and babysat many children in the community. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her parents: Lana (Larry) Doll of Pelican Rapids and Dave (Faline) Sorensen of Rothsay, MN; sister: Stephanie Sorensen of Pelican Rapids; two step-sisters: Lisa Doll of Pelican Rapids and Danielle Dixon of Rothsay; two step-brothers: Jacob and Adam Doll of Pelican Rapids; grandparents: Harvey (Janet) Bendewald of Ashley, Marles Sorensen of Milbank, SD, Norbert (Catherine) Doll of Perham, MN; great-grandmother: Annie Kunde of Milbank, SD; godparents: Glen and Carrie Deile of Wishek; several aunts and uncles and honorary parents: Art and Penny Bongers of Pelican Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her brother: Casey; grandfather: Lyle Sorensen; great-grandparents: Ray and Florence Rogers and Gottfried and Helena Bendewald and great-grandfather: Erik Kunde.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, from 4-7 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids and resumes one hour prior to the service at the Church.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, with Rev. David Eggebraten and Rev. Curtis Tilleraas officiating.
Burial will be in Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids.
Honorary pallbearers will be her classmates and teachers at Pelican Rapids High School.
Active pallbearers will be Brady Ballard, Randy Bendewald, Glen Deile, Shawn Mattern, Amanda Nelson, Becca Reich, Ashleigh Towey and Gillian Bjerke.
Organist will be Delores Heusser and a duet will be sung by Laura Hagen and Nita Velo.
Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Scott Auclair
Scott Derek Auclair, 34, born March 23,1969, in Ellendale N.D., died Nov. 16, 2003, in Phoenix AZ.
Scott was the youngest son of Rev. Donald and Ella (Schaeffer) Auclair of Mesa, AZ. He served in the Marine Corp from 1987 to 1990. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed throwing darts and playing pool. He moved from Poplar, MT, on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, where he served on the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department to Mesa, AZ, in June of 2002.
He is survived by his son Erik Michael Auclair, Moorhead MN; his parents, a brother, John (Joanna) Auclair; Thornton, CO, his half sisters, Donna Marie (Cliff) MacWay, Vacaville CA, Debbie (Ken) Hersom, Pitsburg, CA, Denise (Glen) Knecht, Pitsburg, CA; his grandmother, Mary Schaeffer, Ashley ND; his aunt, Rose (Leroy) Haas, Ashley ND, and Lee (Gary) Irion, Fargo, ND, numerous other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends in Poplar, MT.
A memorial was held Thursday Nov. 20, 2003, at the Mountain View Mortuary in Mesa, AZ. His ashes were interred at the National Memorial Cemetery
in North Phoenix, AZ. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Earl Grosz
Funeral services for Earl Grosz, 82, Kulm, were held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at First Congregational Church, Kulm, with Rev. Jerry Van Curler officiating. He died June 14 at Wishek Community Hospital.
Earl Iver Grosz was born May 2, 1921 in McIntosh County, near Fredonia, the son of David and Theresa (Weispfenning) Grosz. He grew up and attended country school in Antelope School District. On June 20, 1944, Earl entered the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, he began farming on the family farm near Kulm.
Earl married
Edna Schock on Feb. 14, 1947. The couple continued farming in the Kulm area until their retirement, when they moved into Kulm. Mrs. Grosz died on April 27, 1993. Earl married
Anna Marie (Knopp) Billigmeier on Dec. 17, 1993.
Earl was a member of First Congregational Church and the Kulm American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Marie, of Kulm; three sons, Clyde (Lezlie) Grosz of Hazen, Dale (Renee) Grosz of Wahpeton and Gary (Shirley) Grosz of Kulm; four daughters, Joyce (Robert) Toth of Boulder City, Nev., Margie (Gary) Kuhlman of San Marcos, Calif., Carolina (John) Kuipers of Tappen and Donna (Gary) Docktor of Jamestown; a brother, James (Genevieve) Grosz of Breckenridge, Minn.; a sister, Lucille (Herman) Munsch of Kulm; and 14 grandchildren.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna; a brother, Willard Grosz; a sister Eliza Harr; a brother and sister who died in infancy, Delbert and Janet Grosz, and a grandson, Aaron Kuipers.
Interment was in Kulm Congregational Cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Kulm was in charge of arrangements.
H. A. Hoffman
Memorial services will be held for H. A. Hoffman, a long-time Logan County resident and farmer, at the Lehr Seventh Day Adventist Church at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2003.
Mr. Hoffman passed away Feb. 1, 2003 at the age of 103 in Redlands, Calif.
Pastor Dennis Kaiser, a long-time family friend who grew up in the local farming community, will be the officiating pastor.
A fellowship lunch will follow in the dining hall of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lehr.
Andy Entzi
Funeral services for Andy Entzi, 74, Fredonia, will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, with Rev. Bill Bradley officiating. He died March 29 at his home, near Fredonia.
Andy Entzi was born Aug. 20, 1928, east of Lehr, in McIntosh County, the son of John and Magdalena (Pressler) Entzi. He attended thr local rural school, where he received his elementary and grew to manhood in the vicinity.
Andy married
Phyllis Moldenhauer on Nov. 25, 1953 in Ashley. They made their home on a farm, five miles northwest of Fredonia. Andy retired in 2000 and continued to help and live on the farm.
Andy was a member of Nazareth Congregational Church in Fredonia. Andy was an avid fisherman, who loved ice and shore fishing. He was very creative and invented various items used for fishing. Andy had quite a number of hobbies, including building fish houses and tinkering with fishing equipment. He also had a great love for tractors. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Fredonia; two children, Boyd (Kristi) Entzi of Fredonia and Lynette (Michael) Odden of Bismarck; four grandchildren; six brothers, Gedion Entzi and Alvin Entzi, both of Lehr, Leo Entzi of Loveland, Colo., Eugene Entzi of Naples, Fla., Arnold Entzi of Wavery, Iowa, and John Entzi of Lehr; and three sisters, Viola (Albert) Lux of Long Lake, S.D., and Lulubelle Seefried and Rose Wolff, both of Jamestown.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters and a brother.
Interment will be made in the Congregational Cemetery, Fredonia. Haut Funeral Homes of Wishek was in charge of arrangements.
