Ludwig Schlabsz
Funeral service for Ludwig “Louie” Schlabsz, 83, was Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles officiated.
Burial was in the church cemetery
with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley was in charge of arrangements.
He died March 26, 2003, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Ludwig Schlabsz, son of Jacob and Katherina (Nitschke) Schlabsz was born June 30, 1919, northeast of Ashley on the family farm. The family moved to Ashley in the fall of 1927. He attended Ashley Public Schools. After graduation, he then attended two years of college at Valley City State and one year at the University of North Dakota.
He served in the North Dakota National Guard from January 1940 through December 1941 and in the United States Army from March 1943 through May 1946, serving in the signal corps. After his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Ashley and became engaged in the grocery and general merchandise business, known as The Farmers Store, until 1954. He then became employed by the United States Agricultural Department and the United States Postal Service from 1954 until his retirement in February of 1983.
Louie spent many days on the golf course and at the Ashley Country Club with his friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed bird watching and playing a good game of gin with his friends and family.
Church activities were very important to him, and he will always be known for his neat sense of humor.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley where he had held various church offices. He was a member of the Ashley Country Club and Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. He was a past member of the Ashley Lions Club and was a former Ashley School Board member.
Survivors include one sister, Hulda Giedt of Ashley, one niece, Barbara (Ronald) Litsey of Ashley, and three nephews, Charles (Jocelyn) Kraemer of Oakes, Kenneth (Andrea) Giedt of Aberdeen and John Louis Giedt of Tulsa, Okla.
His parents and a sister, Anna Kraemer, preceded him in death.
Honorary casketbearers were all of his friends.
Casketbearers were his great-nieces and nephews.
The organist was Steve Glaesmann, and the soloist was Christopher Kraemer. There was a duet by Candace Kraemer and Carleen Stock. The accompanist was Gregory Stock. Special music was provided by The Joyful Singers.

Frank Ziegler
Frank Ziegler, 85, Bismarck, ND, died Feb. 1, 2003, at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial was at St. Andrew’s Cemetery
in Zeeland.
Frank was born April 11, 1917, on the family farm, near Zeeland, the son of Joseph and Katherina (Michael) Ziegler. He attended rural school near Zeeland. Frank married
Barbara Wald Sept. 21, 1937, at St. John’s Catholic Church near Zeeland. They farmed in the Zeeland area until Frank retired on Sept. 10, 1974, at which time they moved to Zeeland. On Feb. 11, 1999, Frank and Barbara moved to Bismarck. Frank was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Ray Feist of Linton and Jane and Joe Wolf of Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Jan Ziegler of Bismarck and Leo and Karen Ziegler of Zeeland; a sister, Eva Jangula, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and a daughter-in-law, Julie Ziegler.
Arrangements were by Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Leo Delzer
Leo Delzer, 65, Bismarck, died Nov. 24, 2002, at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 10:00 at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service with the Rev. Don Burnett and the Rev. Jim Moos officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. at Venturia Baptist Cemetery.
Leo was born on May 9, 1937, in Venturia, the son of Henry and Martha (Diede) Delzer. He was baptized on May 13, 1951, at Venturia Baptist Church. He was raised in Venturia and then graduated frorn Bismarck High School in 1954.
He married
Sylvia Schiermeister in 1955, and they lived in Bismarck. Leo worked in sales including Yegen Dairy and most recently at D & E Supply.
Leo loved sports and was well known as a top fast-pitch softball player.
Leo enjoyed westerns and the stars like Roy Rogers and Gene Autry in books and in movies. He also liked collecting coins. He was a life long member of the Eagles Club.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shereen and Kirk Lauer of Bismarck, his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Randy and Valerie Delzer of Bismarck, Rodney and Stacie Delzer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Ronny Delzer of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters and one brother-in-law, Pauline Delzer of Bismarck, Irene and Harold Perman of Bismarck, Mabel Delzer of Bismarck and Bernice Delzer of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Olive.
Raymond Hoffman
Pastor Raymond Hoffman, 78, of Lodi, CA, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in a Lodi hospital.
He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in McPherson County, S.D., and moved to Lodi in 1990. Hoffman was a pastor in churches in South Dakota, North Dakota and Oregon. He served as a missionary with the North American Baptist Mission in Cameroon for eight years. After retirement, he did interim pastoring and was visitation pastor for First Baptist Church in Lodi.
Survivors are his wife, Esther Hoffman, of Lodi; children, Dennis Hoffman of Lodi and Lois Sheffield of Springfield, Ore., siblings, Ernie Hoffman of Lodi and LouElla Opp of Ashley, and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at First Baptist Church, Lodi. A private committal followed. Lodi Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Schell
Eureka, S.D-The funeral for Mary Schell, 91, of Eureka was held Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Dean H. Nelson officiated. She died May 30 at the Eureka Healthcare Center.
Mary Pfeifle was born Jan. 8, 1911, to John and Kathern (Sayler) Pfeifle in rural McIntosh County, N.D. She then lived on a farm 18 miles southeast of Eureka. She married
John Schell June 21, 1931, in rural Leola. They lived in Eureka since 1965. She worked at the Lutheran Home, a retirement home in Eureka, from 1966 to 1972. He died in 1972. She moved into the Eureka Healthcare Center in 1999.
Mary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka and a member of Merry Martha Circle. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, gardening and raising poultry.
Survivors include a sister, Lydia Galusha of Clinton, Iowa, and a brother, William (Olga) Pfeifle of Ashley, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, three brothers and four sisters.
Casketbearers were be Dale McElhany, Gary Hermann, Maria Ruff, Jessica Hermann, Gerald Hermann, Sam Geist and Harvey Graff.
Burial will be in the church cemetery
with Straub’s Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements.
Walter Kost
Walter Floyd Kost, 74, Aberdeen, S.D., died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his residence.
His funeral service was Thursday, March 28, 2002, at 10: 30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with Dr. Gregg Donaldson officiating. Burial was at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen, under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
Walter Floyd Kost was born Jan. 12, 1928, at Artas, S.D., to Edward and Elizabeth (Ebel) Kost.
He entered the Army in 1951. On Oct. 10, 1951, he married
Maggie Delzer at Venturia. In 1953 they moved to Aberdeen where they have lived since.
Walter worked for Bradbury Motors, National Tea and Northern State College for 36 years. He was a custodian and later was a custodian supervisor at Northern. He retired on June 28, 1991. After retiring, he worked part time at Dacotah Bank and US West.
Walter was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed sports and being with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie, of Aberdeen; two daughters, Wanda (Rick) Wahl of Bismarck and Rhonda (Matt) Mahowald of Osceola, Wisc; a son, Keith (Melanie) Kost of Bismarck; two sisters, Ruth (Alvin) Geiszler of Rapid City, S.D., and Frieda Schnabel of Ashley; two brothers, Jake (Clara) Kost and George (Olga) Kost, all of Ashley; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
Casket bearers were Roger Delzer, Jerry Kost, Ken Schnabel, Delbert Kost, Allen Kost and Terry Steinwandt.
Honorary casket bearers were all six of Walter’s grandchildren: Jordan Wahl, Kayla Wahl, Cami Mahowald, Bethany Kost, Zachary Kost and Tyler Mahowald.
