Benedict ‘Ben’ Nett

Benedict J. “Ben” Nett, 88, Minot, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services, Minot.
Benedict Jacob “Ben” Nett was born March 4, 1918, in Foxholm, the son of Andrew and Anna (Backes) Nett. He was raised in the Foxholm area and attended Muskego School.
Ben married
Marion Olson on Sept. 24, 1946. They made their home in the Foxholm area, where they farmed and raised their family. He had helped with the early construction of the Minot Air Force Base. Ben continued to farm and in the later years, worked for Elmer Engelhard Construction, Foxholm, and then for Watne Realty Co., Minot. Marion passed away on Oct. 15, 1969.
He married
Lena Bertsch on Nov. 15, 1974, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. The couple made their home in Minot. He retired from farming in 1980.
Ben was baptized and confirmed at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, rural Foxholm. He then became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Foxholm. He was currently a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot. He was also a former member of the Eagles Aerie and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Minot, as a 3rd Degree Knight.
Ben had a passion for music and in his younger years, playing in the Nett Family Band. He played both the piano and the guitar in many barn dances. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his many friends and relatives.
Surviving family includes: wife, Lena, Minot; sons, Bruce (Judy) Nett, Glenburn, Brent Nett, Minot, and Dal (Kris) Nett, Bel Air, Md.; daughter, Debbie Nett, Minot; stepsons, James (Rikki) Bertsch, David (Gail) Bertsch, Ron Bertsch, all of Minot, and Eugene Bertsch, Cody, Wyo.; stepdaughters, Marge Hoffer, Minot, Donna Mathiason, Newark, Calif., and Sandra (David) Eshenko, Fargo; three grandchildren, Ryan, Joel (Jen) and Erin Nett; several stepgrandchildren; brother, Paul (Eileen) Nett, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna; first wife, Marion; brothers, John and Joe Nett; sisters, Irene Dufner, Clara Phillips, Katy Hensen and Susie Jevne.
Funeral: Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday (today) from noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Sunday (today) at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Monday at 1:30 p.m., at St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Foxholm.
Russell Hagel

Russell J. Hagel, 44, Minot, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in his home.
He was born March 1, 1962, to Florion and Darlene Hagel in Minot.
Survivors: parents, of Minot; brothers, Jeff, Monty and Greg, all Minot; sister, Pam Tallman, Minot.
Funeral: Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Tonight at 7 in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: Today from noon to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Rachel Syverson
Dec. 23, 1915-Oct. 12, 2006
Rachel Syverson, age 90, of Washburn, ND, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at a Bismarck hospital.
At her request, no public funeral services will be held.
Rachel is survived by one son, Don (Mari) Syverson of Leesburg, FL; 3 grandchildren, Kevan (Patti) Syverson of Sawyer, ND, Kim (Doug) Laske of Mandan, ND, and Kollin (Char) Syverson of Washburn, ND; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Ted), 1 brother (Raymond), and 1 sister (Ruth).
Samuel Baker

BELCOURT – Samuel Lee Baker, 49, Portland, Ore., formerly of the Belcourt-Dunseith area, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in his home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1957, to Paul Baker and Darlene Beston in Belcourt. He served in the Marine Corps for a time. He married
Brenda Parisien Nov. 26, 1979, and they later divorced.
Survivors: sons, Samuel Parisien and Sean Baker, both Grand Forks, James Baker, Hatton; daughters, Brandie Baker, Desirae Baker and Candace Baker, all Grand Forks; companion, Jennifer Cheney; eight grandchildren; brothers, William Baker, Prague, Okla., Paul Baker, Gun Barrel, Texas, Tracy Clary, Grand Forks, Bobby Clary, Bismarck, Michael Baker and Christopher Baker, both Dunseith; sisters, Monica Laducer and Pauline Baker, both Belcourt, Delores Baker, Dunseith.
Funeral: Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Burial: Will be later.
Rosary: Tonight at 8 in the church.

Frank Onufray
Aug. 26, 1920-Sept. 30, 2006
WILLISTON – Frank L. Onufray, 86, Williston, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, in a Williston hospital.
He was born Aug. 26, 1920, to Paul and Anna Onufray in Wilton. He served in the Army from 1940 to 1945, in the National Guard from 1949 to 1951, and again in the Army in 1952 in Korea. He married
Marguerite Wayte April 13, 1950, in Monterey Park, Calif.
Survivors: wife; son, Frank, Watsonville, Calif.; daughters, Paula Berg, Bottineau, Patricia Onufray, Aberdeen, S.D.
Memorial service: Today at 2 p.m. in Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.
Visitation: Today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
Albert Roussin
May 20, 1919-Oct. 14, 2006
BELCOURT – Albert Roussin, 87, Dunseith, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, in a Rugby hospital.
He was born May 20, 1919, to Telesphore Renault and Mary Roussin in Froid, Mont. He was raised by his grandparents, Eustache and Madeline Roussin. He served in the Army from 1940 to 1942 during World War II. He married
Jane Roberts Jan. 10, 1955, in Rolla.
Survivors: daughters, Lorna Abbey, Dora Frederick, both Dunseith, Susan Roussin, Rolla; son, David, Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Stephan Renault, Dunseith, Elidege, Kingston, Ohio.
Funeral: Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthonyís Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Burial: Church cemetery.
