Nels Ringsaker
Oct. 19, 1918-Oct. 2, 2006
Nels O. Ringsaker, 87, Minot, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1918, in rural Simcoe, the son of Ole and Louise (Nyborg) Ringsaker. He was reared and educated in the Simcoe area and confirmed at Stenkjaer Lutheran Church near Simcoe.
Nels entered the United States Army on June 9, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn., serving with the 410th Sig. Co in the Campaign of Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and Southern Philippines. Nels was honorably discharged from the Army on Nov. 10, 1945, receiving the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with three bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
Upon his discharge Nels returned to Minot where, in 1947, he went to work for the City of Minot as a fireman.
Nels married
Edna M. Jacobson on Oct. 23, 1948, in Minot. In 1961, the couple began the operation of the Community Blue Moon Auction and managed it together for 18 years. Nels also worked many years for Northern Auction and Blesener Olds Co. Nels and Edna maintained a summer home at Lake Metigoshe in Bottineau County. Nels worked for the Minot Fire Department for more than 31 years, retiring on Oct. 27, 1978. Edna died on March 15, 1989, in Minot.
Nels was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Men’s Club in Minot. He was also a member of the Minot American Legion, the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Aerie and the Moose Lodge, all in Minot. Nels enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

Nels was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; stepson, Wallace D. Howell; great-grandson, Steven Ristow; parents, Ole and Louise; brothers, Martin, Theodore and Oscar Ringsaker; sister, Luella Moxness and two infant sisters, Lily and Inga.
Funeral service: Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Today from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Elmer Kerzman
May 12, 1924-Oct. 6, 2006
Elmer Kerzman, 82, Garrison, died Friday, October 6, 2006, in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from Noon to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison and for 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Elmer was born May 12, 1924, in rural Roseglen to Andrew and Matilda (Swenson) Kerzman. He married
Margaret Zenz on July 8, 1948. They raised their three children and farmed west of Garrison in the Roseglen area. In 1976 they retired and moved into Garrison.
Elmer enjoyed fishing with his son and was a very ambitious gardener. He could usually be seen in his garden, flower beds, or on his little tractor.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Gloria (Ron) Pencek and Joyce (Tommy) Free, all of Grapevine, TX, son, Daryl (Virginia) Kerzman, Mandan, ND; granddaughter, Leslie Bergan, San Diego, CA; grandson, Michael Free, Grapevine, TX; brother, Art Kerzman, Wieppe, ID; sister, May Ayoub, Tucson, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roy and Leo.
Edward Ganje
June 12, 1930-Oct. 1, 2006
Edward J. Ganje, 76, Roseville, Calif., formerly of Karlsruhe, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, in his home.
Edward Joseph Ganje was born on June 12, 1930, in Karlsruhe, the son of Conrad and Regina (Beochler) Ganje. Eddy was the youngest of nine children. As a young adult, he worked on the family ranch.
He enlisted in the United States Army on Nov. 21, 1951, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 7, 1953, but remained in the reserves until 1960.
He moved to Renton, Wash., and married
Betty Jean Bokovoy of Max. They moved to Oakland, Calif., in 1956 and had a daughter, Debra, who resides in Mesa, Ariz. He worked at Matson Shipping Lines for 35 years. Upon retiring, they moved to Roseville, Calif.
His passion growing up was his beloved Arabian horse, Smokey. Dad was the smartest man I’ve ever known. He could fix, build or invent anything to get the job done. And he was always there when you needed his help. He will be remembered with much love from his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; Roseville, Calif.; daughter, Debra Ganje, Mesa, Ariz.; brothers, Phillip Ganje, San Leandro, Calif., and Conrad Ganje, Turlock, Calif.; sister, Bertha Bodine, Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Matt, George, Carl, John and Mike Ganje; and sister, Veronica Ganje.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal but friends may sign the register book on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Rosella Taylor
Dec. 15, 1918-Oct. 4, 2006
FESSENDEN – Rosella Caroline Taylor, 87, Bowdon, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, in her home.
She was born Dec. 15, 1918, to John and Lucy Werner in Bowdon. She married
Joe Taylor in September 1939 in Fessenden.
Survivors: daughter, Marion Taylor, Bowdon; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons; brothers, Harry, Stockton, Calif., Richard, Pleasant Hills, Calif.; sisters, Florence Fruhwirth, Bismarck, Margaret Stepp, Mountain Ranch, Calif., LaVonne Chassereau, Oakland, Calif.
Funeral: Monday at 2 p.m. in Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden.
Burial: Wayside Cemetery, Bowdon.
Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, in the funeral home.
Goldie Stene
Oct. 30, 1913-Sept. 25, 2006
MOHALL - Goldie J. Stene, 92, of Sacramento, Calif., and longtime Mohall resident, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, in Sacramento.
She was born Oct. 30, 1913, in Lansford, the daughter of William and Margaret (Furman) Hunter. She was raised and educated near Lansford and graduated from Blaine High School. Goldie also attended a business college in Seattle.
On Sept. 21, 1935, Goldie married
Russell Stene in Mohall. They lived on the Stene family farm near Loraine until they moved to Mohall in 1946.
For 18 years, Goldie owned and operated Goldie’s Dress Shop on Main Street in Mohall. She was an active member of the community, working on several committees; and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Goldie also served as Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.
As a young child, Goldie learned to play the harmonica. Starting in the 1930s, Goldie and her husband, Russell, played with friends and family for local parties and dances in the area. She loved to entertain and laugh, and continued to play her harmonica until shortly before her death.
Family: daughters, Marlene (Don) Emond, Oceanside, Calif.; Jeanette (Ron) Hemming, Edmonds, Wash.; Connie (Gary) Malstrom, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; Jessica (Tim) Adamson, Sacramento; son, Larry (Debra) Stene, Yuma, Ariz.; sister, Jessica Hunter, Sandy, Utah; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, who died in 1992; sisters, Hazel, Rhoda, Margaret and Edna; brothers, Edward, William and Ambrose; and great-grandson, Eric.
Memorial service: Friday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.
Interment: Mohall Community Cemetery.
