WILLISTON – Robert A. Johnson, 66, Williston, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident near Buford.
He was born Nov. 4, 1939, to Harold and Eleanor Johnson in Plentywood, Mont. He married
Delores Johnson March 14, 1961, in Sidney, Mont.
Survivors: son, David, Killdeer; daughter, Sheila Christensen, Williston; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; mother, Plentywood; brothers, Richard, Westby, Mont., Carl, Butte, Mont., Keith, Plentywood; sisters, Cindy Sanford, Mayville, Kathy Lynch, Great Falls, Mont., Christine Combs, Betty Boucher, both Centralia, Wash., Marion Paulson, Williston.
Funeral: Today at 11 a.m. in New Hope Wesleyan Church, Williston.

David R. Shafer
Nov. 25, 1928-Oct. 1, 2006
David R. Shafer, 77, of Tioga, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Tioga Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Tioga. Rev. Sandy Anderson will officiate, and interment will follow at United Cemetery, Tioga.
David R. Shafer was born November 25, 1928 at Roseglen, North Dakota, the youngest son of Jesse and Hallie (Erb) Shafer. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school and graduated from Ryder High School in 1947. He worked on the family farm for several months after graduation.
Dave married
Helen Sather on December 20, 1948 in Ryder, North Dakota. In January 1949 the couple took over operations of Helenís parentsí farm at rural Ryder for approximately five years. In October 1953, Dave went to Tioga. He was employed by Brown and Root construction, and was involved in the building of the Tioga Gas Plant.
In June 1954, Helen and their son Gary joined Dave in Tioga when housing became available.
In September 1954 when the plant went into operation, Dave went to work for Signal Oil and Gas Company as a mechanic. During his 30 years of employment, he held various positions at the plant, and retired from the plant on December 31, 1984.
In January 1985 Dave started Pipeline Inspection and Construction Supervision Service, which he operated until October 1994.
Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the many deer hunts and numerous early morning coffee cup hunts with his son Gary. Helen and Dave enjoyed camping, and spent several vacations traveling and camping throughout the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed 13 winters spent in the Yuma, Arizona, area.
Dave was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Tioga and served several terms on the church council.
After retiring, Dave was active in the Tioga Kiwanis Club and enjoyed the time spent on club projects.
Dave is survived by his wife, Helen; son Gary (Rosemarie) Shafer of Tioga, ND; grandchildren Sharla (Jared) Wright of Raidersberg, MT, Justin Shafer, Minot, ND, and Nathan (Tia) Shafer of Williston, ND; 11 great-grandchildren, Chase, Dillon, Deavon, Jayden Rose, Jayden John, Maddisen, Jordyn, Christian, Ethan, Dawson, and Cayin; two sisters, Carol (Howard) LaFrance of West Haven, CT, and Opal (Leonard (Deceased)) Zimmer, of Williston, ND; two brothers, Jesse (Arlene (Deceased)) Shafer of Portland, OR, and Herbert (Donna) Shafer of Roseglen, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and an infant son preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Mary Frison

FORT TOTTEN – Mary Elizabeth Frison, 66, Devils Lake, formerly of California, died Friday, June 16, 2006, in a Devils Lake nursing home.
She was born Dec. 23, 1939, to Clayton and Iona Eiland in Los Angeles.
Survivors: sister, Betty Gilley, Salt Lake City; brothers, John, Centralia, Wash., Clayton, of Tennessee; stepmother, Ethel Eiland, Centralia.

Pearl Knutson
May 1, 1908-Oct. 13, 2006
MOHALL ñ Pearl M. Knutson, 98, of Mohall, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at a Mohall nursing home.
Pearl was born May 1, 1908, in Mohall to Martin and Jennie (Satran) Peterson. They moved to Antler where she was raised and graduated from high school.
She married
Marvin O. Knutson Nov. 22, 1930, in Mohall. They had one daughter, Shirley. They lived most of their lives in Mohall, with the exception of four years in Seattle. They returned to Mohall in 1946 where Pearl worked at the U.S. Post Office until she retired after 26 years.
Following the death of her husband in 1983, Pearl and her daughter moved into an apartment in Minot where she lived until she entered the nursing home in 2005.
Pearl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, and was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
Family: daughter, Shirley I. Brown, Minot; granddaughter, Joydeen Whitney, of Warden, Wash.; great-granddaughters, Jamie Whitney, Moses Lake, Wash.; Jenna Whitney, of Warden; great-great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Gregory, both of Moses Lake.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; grandsons, Douglas and Gregory; and sisters, Myrtle Willander, Dora Swanson and Bernice Jones.
Memorial service: Tuesday at 10 a.m. at North Central Good Samaritan Center, Mohall.
Interment: Mohall Community Cemetery.

Theresa Azure

BELCOURT – Theresa Rose Azure, 67, St. John, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, in a Belcourt hospital.
She was born May 15, 1939, to Walter and Mary Parisien in Belcourt. She married
Albert Azure Aug. 26, 1957, in Belcourt.
Survivors: husband; daughters, Betty Hunt, Phyllis Gourneau and Lorraine Gourneau, all Belcourt, Carol Hunt, St. John; sons, Robert, St. John, Dave and Kenneth, both Belcourt; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Schroeder, William Schroeder, and Walter Schroeder, all Dunseith; sisters, Dora Ward and Cecila Azure, both Dunseith.
Funeral: Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Belcourt.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Wake: Will begin Sunday at 4 p.m. in the church.
