Merlin Bryant, 79
Merlin Bryant, 79, of Lostwood, died December 31 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot. His funeral was Monday, Jan. 1, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Powers Lake.
He was born to Ray and Bessie Bryant at Donnybrook. He grew up and attended school in the Lostwood and Coteau areas. He married
Beverly Olsen in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1971. He married
Marily Marmon in 1972. He farmed in the Lostwood area until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Powers Lake congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors: wife; children, Tim Bryant, Bill Bryant, Jerry Bryant, Linda Fennema, Cheryl Alkire, Kevin Bryant, Larry Bryant, Jeff Bryant, Debbie Hjelmeland, Ruth Weigel, Cindy Pierson, Brian Marmon, Clint Marmon and Rosella Weston; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.

Anna Sand, 87
Anna Mildred Sand, 87, of Parshall, formerly of Minot, died Thursday, Dec. 28, in a Parshall nursing home. Her funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Rockview Good Samaritan Nursing Home at Parshall, and Thursday at 1 p.m. in the in the Thomas Family Funeral Home at Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
She was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Chicago, Il. She was raised and educated in Missouri.
She married
Joe Kessler, who preceded her in death. She was once married
to John Sand. She lived in Minot for many years where she was self-employed as a seamstress and did ironing in her home. She was a resident of Odd's Mobile Home Park from 1950 to 1998, when she then moved to Edgewood Vista. She most recently lived in the Rockview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Parshall.
Survivors: daughter, Adeline Bergum, of Hemet, Ca.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Ernest Bomstad, 71
Ernest Clayton Bomstad, 71, of Kenmare, formerly of rural Palermo, died Sunday, Dec. 31, in a Kenmare hospital following a battle with cancer.
His funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 4 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Coulee. Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m., in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
Wanda Rice, 47
Wanda Lou Rice, 47, of rural Tioga, died at the Tioga Medical Center on Tuesday, Mar. 6. Her funeral was Saturday, Mar. 10, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake, with burial in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Battleview.
She was born April 9, 1953, at Powers Lake, the daughter of Dale and Phyllis (Schroeder) Moody. She was raised in Battleview, attending Battleview School until the eighth grade. She attended Powers Lake High School and graduated in 1971. While in high school, she participated in band, choir and FHA. She later enrolled in Minot State College receiving her B.S. degree in nursing in 1975.
She worked for a short time at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot before her marriage to Keith Rice on May 1, 1976 at Battleview. They made their home northeast of Tioga where they farmed and ranched. She worked at the Tioga Hospital and later worked in Home Health Care until she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of 2000.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview and its ELCA and the Country Gals Homemakers. She served as Sunday school superintendent at Bethel Lutheran, as well as taught Sunday school at Norman Lutheran Church.
Survivors: husband; sons, Rikki of Grand Forks, Bobby of Harvey, Jason of Tioga, Trevor and Brett, both of rural Tioga; three grandchildren; mother and step-father, Phyllis and James Hanson of Battleview; brothers, Galen Moody and Larry Moody, both of Battleview and Lonnie Moody of Bismarck; sisters, Vicki Greenfield of Powers Lake, Bobbi Jo Allen of Lignite, Tamara Hanson of Gillette, Wy. and Renae Fredrickson of Powers Lake; grandmother, Rose Torgerson of Tioga; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Agnes Johnson, 94
Agnes Johnson, 94, of Stanley, died Thursday, Mar. 8, in a Minot medical center. Her funeral will be Thursday, Mar. 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Stanley. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, also Stanley. Visitation is Wednesday from 9 to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to noon at the Springan Funeral Home in Stanley.
Officiating will be Rev. Mark Kindem. Pallbearers will be David Schwede, Ernie Charnetzki, Harold Charnetzki, Mike Crider, Gary Knudtson and Allen Whillock.
She was born June 21, 1906 at rural Donnybrook, to Leo and Alma Charnetzki. She was raised and attended school in that area. She married
Julius Johnson October 8, 1930, at rural Coulee. They farmed in the Coulee area until 1935, when they moved into Stanley. She worked as a retail clerk at Anderson's Department Store until 1959 and then at Dakota Drug in Stanley until her retirement in 1978. Her husband died in 1981. She was a resident at the Mountrail Bethel Home for the past several years.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church where she was active with the ladies group, Luther League and Sunday school. She was a long-time member of the Bethel Home Auxiliary and put in many hours as a volunteer. She was also a member of the Book & Thimble Club and the Stanley Senior Citizens.
Survivors: son, Darold of Apache Junction, Az.; brother, Arvid Charnetzki of Blaisdell; sisters, Ida Johnson and Myrtle Schwede, both of Minot; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Henning Hoseth, 85, Stanley, died Monday, Mar. 12 in the Mountrail Bethel Home at Stanley. Funeral Services are pending.

Clarence Kulland, 66
Clarence Ervin Kulland, 66, of Gearhart, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Seaside, Ca.
He was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Cole, Mt., to Clarence and Ingrid Nelsen Kulland, formerly of the New Town and Stanley areas.
He entered the U.S. Air Force and served in various areas, including three tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1973 from Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington.
He married
Marlene Lancaster Kulland on June 27, 1953, in Seaside.
They moved to Gearhart in 1977, and he worked at the Willamette Industries Mill in Warrenton until his retirement in 1999. He played Santa Claus at the Seaside Civic Convention Center for 18 years. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Seaside.
Survivors: wife; son, Michael of Portland; daughters, Kathy Wilson of Gearhart and Cyndi Biamont of Hillsboro; brother, Dutch Kulland of Gearhart; sisters, Carol Webb of Salem and Marcella Stewart of Gearhart; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Ruth Gerard, 58
Ruth Gerard, 58, of Stanley, died Monday, May 28, in her home. Her funeral was Saturday, June 2 in Springan Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both Stanley.
She was born July 8, 1942, to Raymond and Virginia Dykes in Renton, Wa. She was raised and attended school in Renton. She married
Glynn Gerard in 1959. They lived in Renton, where she worked as a records clerk for Boeing Corp. After her retirement in 1997, they moved to the Stanley area.
Survivors: husband of Stanley; sons, Alynn and Jerry, both Minot; daughter, Cherri McIntyre of Minot; brother, Gary of Burien, Wa.; sister, Norma Dykes of Renton; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
George Samuelson, 75
George Samuelson, 75, of Minot, formerly of the Ross area, died Wednesday, May 30, in a Minot medical center. His funeral was Saturday, June 2 in Thomas Family Funeral Home, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, both Minot.
He was born Nov. 21, 1925. He was raised in the Ross area and attended school there. As a young adult, he assisted with the operation of the family farm.
He married
Lillian Vilkhauer July 8, 1956, in Chamberlain, S.D. They made their home on a farm near Ross until 1961. They moved to Minot in 1961, where he established Samuelson Construction Co. He retired in 1997. She died Sept. 18, 1996.
